In truth there's only one I turn to if I truly want to hear someone's opinions on religion. Though I'm certain magic just seems divine to someone that beliefs. It still doesn't mean the gods had a hand in this, even if they exist.

[ It's easier to imagine this is the actions of people than a god. Gods, according to their followers, are fickle. People could be but they could also be stopped. If someone had reason to. ]

Are there truly ways to change someone's mind when they're willing to do what they did? Seeing their methods isn't changing anyone's mind, on either side. Whether you mean the methods of the kidnappers, or the punishment.
