Who: Alucard and Hilda
When: First half of July

>[Old Public Hall will always have a sense of home for Alucard. It was the second major project he threw himself into when he came to the Free Cities, and it took well over a year of his life. The need to have a project helped center him, and the progress on the building was something the dhampir could settle against. It was easier to be human shaped with a project, with a need to finish something, and somehow everything else fell into place around the Hall.
It is why he's so comfortable now, comfortable in one of the chairs that occupies what is now Hilda's office. It feels homier somehow. Lived in, in a way he could never make it feel himself. There's a creative energy in it that is markedly different than the architect's need, all precision and properness. Now it's about keeping things running, but also about creating, and enabling others to do the same.
He lets out a little huff, eyes going over to Hilda's. How long have they been talking nonsense this evening?]
--Ah, I still owe you an explanation about the nervousness remark I made back in the Feywilds, don't I?

[There's no judgement in the question. Just confirmation, as Alucard is aware he's a bit wide in the chest and there's no reason to harm an innocent experimental garment in the process.]

The corset is snatched up in her hands fairly quickly in order to hold it out in front of him. ]
Well, if you're offering, I think that would be the best way to test it, don't you? It's not like the actor wearing it is going to be holding it. I should see that it holds up around an actual body. [ She offers him a little wink. ] That and I think you'd look great in it.

He pauses only just to consider the size of the garment against himself. And...]
You may wish to only tie it loosely. I'm probably wider than the intended wearer.

Hilda's pleased expression is barely concealed at this point as she ushers him up from his chair and towards the dressing screen in the corner of the office. Tucked out of view is also a small little dressing trunk filled to the brim with Hilda's clothing. He may or may not get the impression that the homey, lived-in feeling of the space is more than just her clutter and workshop. She might be sleeping here from time to time too - but he really shouldn't read into it too much. ]
Don't worry we'll just shimmy you into it to get an idea. We need to test it but not like that. Once you're in we can head down!

[Alucard lets himself be pushed around at least, glad he went with a slightly higher cut shirt today than usual.
There's nothing said about the state of Hilda's office. He's slept in this room enough times that he knows he cannot judge, and frankly, he can't blame her. It is quiet here, and easy to make a little nest.
Either way, he's in Hilda's hands for this next part.

Are you really explaining to me how to put someone in a corset?
[ It probably goes without saying that she's very skilled at getting in and out of them, and probably has just as much experience helping people into them.
The cut of the shirt is a little bit disappointing but she'll make do. As she begins the work of unlacing it, she gives him a reassuring and understanding smile. It doesn't have nearly as much mischievous cheekiness that she might otherwise use particularly after everything he had just told her. ]
You can keep your shirt on if you want. I haven't quite worked down the filigree around the edges so it might poke a little if you take it off.

Alucard remains standing, watching Hilda's fingers undo the laces. It is a sign of trust that he's doing any of this in the first place. Especially after an unburdening of secrets. It has been quite the wild whiplash of an evening.]
I was intending to. The foundational garment might even add to the look.

[ The whiplash and mood of the evening does not escape Hilda. And perhaps fitting him into a corset is an odd turn of events considering the subject matter they had discussed, but so often in her life she had slotted herself into the role of someone who would always try and bring some levity to a situation. It didn't always work, but at least Alucard seems more than receptive to it and for that she's grateful. ]
It would look better if your shirt was lower cut [ Because without corset-splaining, that is an added benefit of wearing one. ] but you're right, I think it'll match nicely with the corset design too.
[ With the laces untied, Hilda motions for him to turn around so she can slip it around him and his shirt. ]
I won't tie it too tightly, but if it does feel constricting at all, let me know, okay?

The dhampir lets out a little snort at the comment about his shirt cut. Gideon had joked about it earlier, how it has become a thing is beyond him. But he turns around as asked.]
Likewise, if you think I'm too wide and might damage your hard work, then we don't need to do this.

Hilda's hands as she pauses, peering around him to look up at him. ]
I never said you were too wide. Quite the opposite in fact. You're willowy and shapely. I'm jealous!
[ There may or may not have been a little eyelash batting before she resumes her work with the corset, fingers working under the ties and brushing gently against his back as she pulls them through. As willowy and shapely as Alucard is, he's right; the corset simply isn't made for him. Despite that she still makes quick work tying it.
It's definitely looser than a corset would be normally, but it works. Pink eyes peek around his arm being too short to peer over his shoulders especially without her heels having been discarded earlier in the evening. ]

[Alucard sounds genuinely surprised by that particular declaration. He's never dwelled much about body shape until now, and only because he doesn't want to ruin Hilda's hard work.
He's not surprised that the sizing is totally off. He has a good sense of his proportions, and the corset was very much not made for them.
Still, the actual look of the garment is lovely, and that's all to her.]
Given that I'm not meant for it in any way, it's going to be very flattering for the actual wearer. [With that, he turns around so that Hilda can appraise the situation properly.]

Of course! Do you think I'm lying?
[ Insincerity probably looked like it sat well on Hilda. She was good at flattery because it worked on the right person when she needed something, but there's nothing for her to gain here. Alucard is already in the corset after all.
When he turns to show her properly instead of just giving her the view in the mirror Hilda gives a brief round of applause and a delighted smile. It's part in admiration for how her work is coming along and partly because, well. Look at him. ]
I mean, it's still doing something for you in the sense that there's some lifting happening – [ She cuts off, motioning to his chest. Mischief sparks in her gaze. ] I think you could pull a corset off if you really wanted to, Adrian. You could start a whole new fashion trend.

Alucard does cast a glance downwards, just to see how significant the lift is. It is as Hilda says. Not much, but the boys are definitely higher up.]
I think that's Jaskier's job. His garments for the Fey party were entirely convincing, although I'm not sure if that was a one time thing.
[His eyes glance towards the door.]

[ She hadn't seen Jaskier's get up at the masquerade which is really a shame. There is no doubt in Hilda's mind that it was probably fabulous and very fitting for the bard.
Hilda slips her arm through his, leading him towards the door, down the stairs and towards the stage. It doesn't take long to set up the stage lights and soon enough she's in the audience watching Alucard from afar. After another beat of admiration she calls out from several rows back - ]
I think I'll need to make the design on the corset bigger. I can barely see it from here.
[ To say that she sounds mildly disappointed is an understatement. More work? At least she's finding out now. ]

[Gem of the Phoenix can, after all, go so many ways as far as clothing is concerned. There's a joke in there somewhere about how peacock is a better bird fit for his friend, but that's for later and really for Jaskier's ears only.
The next part is done quickly, and Alucard stands on the stage alone, hands on his hips to help emphasize the shape and silhouette that will be made. It is thanks to the hall's acoustics that he doesn't have to yell for Hilda to hear him. Rather, his voice is like he's standing right beside her.]

Maybe...a little bigger? And I'll probably have to simplify them the next time around so it doesn't get too busy.

You already know you need to do some filing and smoothing stuff out, so I won't waste your time with that part. As for the rest, I'd say it is comfortable enough, especially if the scene is on the shorter end of things. You've done very well.

With the distance between them she wonders if he can make out the barely restrained curve of her lips and flushed pink of her cheeks at the compliment. A part of her hopes not but that's wishful thinking and something she'll never actually voice aloud to confirm. ]
Aw, shucks. Hopefully the actor wearing it feels the same.
[ There's a brief pause as she continues to admire him on stage in a corset that, while it doesn't fit, still suits him the longer he's in it. When he inevitably comes down from the stage and they make their way back to her office she'll offer him a smile that rides that fine line of teasing and sincere. ] T

Lucky for Hilda, Alucard's good but not perfect. He'll only nod in quiet agreement, and then wait for the signal that he can come down off the stage. It's been a whiplash sort of night, and he is fairly sure it is going to end with him flopping down on some flat surface sooner rather than later.]
If we're ever invited back to the Feywilds, perhaps.
[That part is unsure, but sincere if it ever does happen. Alucard doesn't know if they ever will be, but he suspects that they will be expected to dress up further if that is the case. He may as well encourage more homegrown creativity, rather than relying fully on Fey magic and material.]
