Mat knows there's no obligation. The folks here needn't let them visit, let alone once a month. It's a kindness. And he has no trouble finding things to do. The change in scenery alone is worth it. Not to mention the break from the summer heat.

He laughs a bit.

Abby's attractive and seems to have an agreeable nature, and he assumes since she's having fun with Jesper that she does not hold sex and romance sacred. But that's not a guarantee she wants to fool around with him.
