[ CLOSED ] a very avengers family dinner.
When: beginning of august
Where: sam's horizon
What: family dinner!
Warnings: will update if/when necessary
THE HOUSE
For those who have attended one of Sam's Get Togethers before, they'll notice a couple of things. First - there are no decorations, no extra work done for it to Be a Party. Instead, the house looks just as it usually would, welcoming and warm, sure, but no extra effort put in. It's late afternoon (no matter what time you've arrived) and it is hot and humid (late summers in the bayou, baby) with a gentle cool breeze to keep it from being insufferable. The only real indication anything is going on would be the fact the front door is wide open, a distant sound of music, and the incredible smell.
A phenomenal smell, thank you very much. Like someone has been cooking for hours. And truth is, it's taken some work to really get it going, but Sam has kind of (irrationally) held onto this belief that half the enjoyment of something is in the act of doing it. Never mind that he could have easily just created a fully finished and beautiful meal with his brain (since this is in the Horizon and all), he is here for the cooking. And the process. And the tiny reminder of home. And that feeling seeps out of the house as you enter it.
The house is clean, all the windows and doors are open (with screens, thank you). Music can be heard from a speaker in the kitchen, and it probably reaches a whole lot further than the tiny little speaker Sam's using should have any right to. But hey- he'll let some magic seep in. The entire domain is open to be explored, from the practice arena out front to the tv and various gaming consoles in the living room, to the porch and dock out back. If you head upstairs, you'll find two locked doors (one is Wanda's room, which will only open up for whoever she wants it to open up for and the other is Sam's). There's a third bedroom that is open and looks a bit empty, and there's a vague feeling that it used to also be someone's (or, really, a couple of someone's) and it is now just a guest room.
In the dining room is a large table that's not yet set (if someone wants to jump in). There's beer in the fridge if you're into that sort of thing, water out of the sink if you're not, and every now and then two birds may slip through either the front or back door as it opens - one a red-shouldered hawk, the other a small black raven. They seem to be playing, and may even interact with you a bit if you want them to. Otherwise, they'll either settle in their own perches in the corners of the living room, or head back outside.
Dinner will be in an hour or so - a wide variety of seafood and cajun dishes. And if you can't find Sam, he's probably in the kitchen. But also, this is a family dinner - go meet the family. Chat. Get to know each other.OOC INFO
- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, integrate with the cast because we all know they need it, etc.
- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you cause too many issues. :)
- how you get invited / how you end up here is up to you and whoever else you wanna talk it out with. it's possible you overheard and stumbled in, it's possible someone messaged you directly, whatever works best to Get You There.
- any questions? message me at disarmingly
01. 😇
He seems ... quiet. Like, almost too freakin' quiet for his liking. No one's ever that quiet — or maybe it's just that he happens to know some of the rowdiest people in the universe. ]
Hey. [ He resists the urge to add his usual expletive, 'humie' here, considering this whole gathering is full of 'em. ] So what's your deal?
no subject
( this is a new voice. he inclines his head somewhat, towards the sound of the voice and shrugs one shoulder. )
What do you mean? I don't have a deal.
( that he knows of. )
no subject
[ Come on, buddy. Work with him here. ]
Didn't hear you say a whole lot during the food. So how do you know the rest of 'em?
no subject
( he hadn't been a fan of the avengers when he'd first shown up but maybe he's changed his mind. )
I'm Matthew.
( he even offers his hand. see, he's working, he's working. )
no subject
It suddenly does. ]
Would ya look at that — [ is mumbled to himself, because ... well, obviously. And he takes the offered hand to shake with his own.
It'll feel a little bit like shaking the hand of a child. ]
Nice to meet ya, Matthew. I'm uh — Peter.
[ Literally Rocket why are you like this. ]
no subject
( matt, of course, is none the wiser about what rocket's doing. the hand feels real enough and he can't tell anything from the sound of his voice. he gives his hand a shake. )
You just come in with the newest crop of people, Peter? Doing okay with everything?
no subject
[ It is so hard not to snicker and completely expose his little scheme, and with a little bit of determination — he does it.
He manages.
He's so awesome. ]
So you're from the same world as the rest of these guys? How come I ain't ever seen you?
no subject
( well, not exactly. he was more street level based, staying in one place and focusing there. )
I'm from New York City and that's where I stayed. I was there when the Avengers leveled it during their fight with aliens.
( ah, he remembers that fondly. )
no subject
[ Rocket takes the opportunity to study him, like he's trying to unlock some kind of puzzle within him. Super unfair, probably, considering he can't even see what Rocket looks like, but Rocket's never been about fairness, not when it benefits him. ]
No super strength, no Earth-genius level costume with hidden blasters, no moms or dads for gods?
[ He isn't even sure whether he's being sarcastic or genuine at this point, the moment all of those words leave his mouth. What the fuck kind of place can house this many weirdos in one city? ]
So is that where you were when Thanos rolled into town?
[ Just wonderin'. ]
no subject
( except yes, he does have one or two things that he can do but he doesn't know peter at all and he's barely told people that he does know what he can do.
sorry, peter, you'll have to wait and see if you can figure out what he can do.
for now, he just shakes his head and sighs. nope, just a normal lawyer. )
Thanos? I don't think I had the honor.
no subject
Dunno what the hell a lawyer is either, so the term would just be encompassed in the all-normal. ]
Oh, believe me, it was not an honour. That guy was a grade-A douchebag, wiped out half of the multiverse —
[ He stops short.
Oh. ]
I'm guessing you're one of the ones missing the five years of your life.
no subject
( but it's not the first time he's heard about it. wanda's talked a little about it and he's gotten hints from the others. )
Doesn't sound like something to look forward to.
no subject
Shit. Sorry, dude. [ Spoilers. ] But I guess you know that it all gets undone, so that's something.
drive-by
with some wrist twirling, a sparkly font appears in the air—it's not magic when it's in the horizon, right?]
[and then, with another twirl of her wrist, it disappears. she gives rocket a thumbs up.]
no subject
Oh, yeah.
Blind Matthew. Matt. Not that it was difficult to make the connection, but he feels like he's just been given Wanda's full blessing to go full gremlin on this poor, unsuspecting human.
Sorry Matt. (As if he hasn't already been low-key playing tricks.) ]
no subject
( he hasn't asked jessica if she knows what happens to him after midland circle because he's not sure he wants to know. )
Glad to hear it gets undone, though. It sounds like it was a pretty...terrible time for awhile. Not sure if I'd prefer to disappear for five years or be around to pick it all up.
no subject
[ He does not snicker — aloud. On the inside, though. Oh, he's roaring with laughter.
It helps a little to distract from having to think about which side of the equation he'd been on, too. Would it have been better not to be around for those five years than spend every day of them remembering what he'd lost? ]
Anyway. So which one'a these guys brought you into the fold, then? Was it Cap?
no subject
( he's not sure what the snickering's for but hey, maybe peter's just a guy that likes to laugh. he's known people like that before.
he doesn't laugh himself but he feels vaguely amused. )
I guess it would have been Wanda. I wasn't a fan of any of the Avengers initially. For things that happened in the past. I held a grudge.
no subject
That just seems to be the kind of person she is. (And he won't be getting emotional about it, nope.) ]
Oh yeah? Huh. [ Things he isn't super privy to, let's go. ] So, what'd they do?
no subject
Nearly destroyed all of New York.
( collateral damage and it was for a cause that needed to be fought but still. )
no subject
You sure about that? Aren't they supposed to be the good guys?
no subject
( matt gives a shrug. he even thinks that sometimes considering what they've done and how they've done it. )
Doesn't mean they're squeaky clean.
no subject
[ Not dinner invitations and hero status. Then again, the Guardians have never really advertised themselves as anything but semi-good-guys-for-hire with a penchant for leaving a couple little messes behind. When it suits. 'Cause sometimes it's just unavoidable.
Point is: absolutely not squeaky clean either. ]
But yeah, sure, I guess you're not wrong. And yet you still come to their dinner parties, so I guess you let those bygones be bygones.
no subject
( he's gotten a chance to know the other avengers and yeah, they're not so bad. he doesn't hate them individually though he still isn't sure how he feels about them as a group.
he shrugs. )
You saying you're a fan of them? Were you a fan before you started working with them?
no subject
[ The only things he's a fan of are guns and ships, and interchangeably so.
He pauses. ]
Before I became a short-term Avenger I never even heard of these guys. Space is huge and Earth's just a speck in the galaxy. [ And he wouldn't have heard about Earth if not for Quill either. ] Still important enough for Thanos to pay attention to it though.
