[ CLOSED ] a very avengers family dinner.

Who: avengers (and co.)
When: beginning of august
Where: sam's horizon
What: family dinner!
Warnings: will update if/when necessary

THE HOUSE
For those who have attended one of Sam's Get Togethers before, they'll notice a couple of things. First - there are no decorations, no extra work done for it to Be a Party. Instead, the house looks just as it usually would, welcoming and warm, sure, but no extra effort put in. It's late afternoon (no matter what time you've arrived) and it is hot and humid (late summers in the bayou, baby) with a gentle cool breeze to keep it from being insufferable. The only real indication anything is going on would be the fact the front door is wide open, a distant sound of music, and the incredible smell.

A phenomenal smell, thank you very much. Like someone has been cooking for hours. And truth is, it's taken some work to really get it going, but Sam has kind of (irrationally) held onto this belief that half the enjoyment of something is in the act of doing it. Never mind that he could have easily just created a fully finished and beautiful meal with his brain (since this is in the Horizon and all), he is here for the cooking. And the process. And the tiny reminder of home. And that feeling seeps out of the house as you enter it.

The house is clean, all the windows and doors are open (with screens, thank you). Music can be heard from a speaker in the kitchen, and it probably reaches a whole lot further than the tiny little speaker Sam's using should have any right to. But hey- he'll let some magic seep in. The entire domain is open to be explored, from the practice arena out front to the tv and various gaming consoles in the living room, to the porch and dock out back. If you head upstairs, you'll find two locked doors (one is Wanda's room, which will only open up for whoever she wants it to open up for and the other is Sam's). There's a third bedroom that is open and looks a bit empty, and there's a vague feeling that it used to also be someone's (or, really, a couple of someone's) and it is now just a guest room.

In the dining room is a large table that's not yet set (if someone wants to jump in). There's beer in the fridge if you're into that sort of thing, water out of the sink if you're not, and every now and then two birds may slip through either the front or back door as it opens - one a red-shouldered hawk, the other a small black raven. They seem to be playing, and may even interact with you a bit if you want them to. Otherwise, they'll either settle in their own perches in the corners of the living room, or head back outside.

Dinner will be in an hour or so - a wide variety of seafood and cajun dishes. And if you can't find Sam, he's probably in the kitchen. But also, this is a family dinner - go meet the family. Chat. Get to know each other.
OOC INFO
- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, integrate with the cast because we all know they need it, etc.

- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you cause too many issues. :)

- how you get invited / how you end up here is up to you and whoever else you wanna talk it out with. it's possible you overheard and stumbled in, it's possible someone messaged you directly, whatever works best to Get You There.

- any questions? message me at [plurk.com profile] disarmingly

[Ah, right. The assumption that she'd know these bands seems like a silly thing now that he's said it aloud and now that she's correcting him. He sets his jaw, thinking for a moment.]

If you look at me now- [Which means, what, exactly? Ex-Sorcerer Supreme? Once-rich neurosurgeon? Straight-laced-looking white boy? Yes.] -then probably.

Easier for you to take a listen for yourself than to take my word for it.

[Stephen waves a hand, and a little radio suddenly appears on the nightstand, boxy and retro-looking. It starts to blare Head Like A Hole.]

[wanda gives him a look, because stephen is really pulling the whole ‘listen to this song and tell me what you think’ when he summons the radio, a song playing almost immediately. she leans back against the wall, slumping a little, and letting herself listen to the song.

she points at the radio as the lyrics fade out, the song coming to an end.]

A little too on the nose, don’t you think?

[she jests, referring to their previous and last encounter back home.]

You’re right, this feels a little too… grunge to be your style.

[as for wanda, the finger that points to the radio drops down as if motioning to it again, and a softer song starts playing.]

This is what played a lot in my home growing up. My parents had a vynil player. [and maybe it’s just a very distinct eastern european thing to do, or just—a european thing, to enjoy the great composers of classical music.] Sam always played his favorite songs in the Quinjet. I know those quite a lot, too.

[Yeah, that's absolutely the vibe. He laughs a little at her assessment.]

Don't think it was "on the nose" all those years ago, Wanda.

[But yeah, maybe it is now. Still, he doesn't seem put-off or awkward about it, not this time. Maybe it's the casual nature of the conversation at hand, but he moves on easily enough.]

I listen to a little bit of everything. That's the point. My brain is full of useless musical trivia, since I know you were just dying to know.

[But it's his turn to listen to a song, ready to commit the melody to memory, yet... Well, this is a recognizable tune, isn't it?]

Well, I can hardly criticize your musical tastes when you're leaning back on the classics. [The literal classics.] I'd study to this one, sometimes, too.

What did Sam listen to?

Oh, yeah, I was dying to know that.

[it’s easy-going, this time around, when they get to talk about things that are not relating to the magic or the darkhold or the multiverse. who would have thought—maybe two of the most powerful magical individuals could actually hold a conversation and not end up accidentally fighting each other?

small miracles.]

Sam would say it was just his Louisiana upbringing. Soul, R&B. A lot of Marvin Gaye.

[the music filters in from downstairs.]

I was surrounded by old souls in that Quinjet.

[Small miracles, indeed. For what it's worth, Sam would probably not appreciate them having an all-out magical brawl in the middle of his Horizon-home. They'd probably get yelled at for knocking down a wall or two.]

Sam has good tastes.

[Stephen can appreciate all things Marvin Gaye. That said, his brows raise again at that last remark.]

So you're calling them old and wizened.

[...And by extension, likely Stephen, too.]

I just called them old.

[don’t put words in her mouth! besides, it was funny to get steve and sam argue about how they’re not actually that old, until someone did the maths, and there was a general sense of balking at steve being in his hundreds.

she waves a hand at stephen’s words.]

You can rest easy knowing that you aren’t the oldest of those from our world, Stephen.

[well, whatever—]

Is the food ready?

[Deadpan, but faux-deadpan, because clearly he's a little amused, still:]

Wizened.

[But with an exhale, he hefts himself up to his feet, nodding.]

I'll take what I can get, I guess. But yeah. The food's ready. Come on, I'm starving, and everyone's probably wondering where we've gotten off to.

[Hopefully not assuming they're in a magical fight somewhere, or whatever.]

[wizened, sure. wanda rolls her eyes, but stephen can take it or leave it. it’s certainly different to have this kind of more domestic interaction with stephen, talking about childhoods and musical preferences. it’s an accomplishment—if there was anyone else here to make note of it.]

You’re just saying that to play along for Sam, aren’t you?

[the whole ‘starving’ for imaginary food. it’s silly to her, but she knows what’s the point of it all. standing up, she follows behind him, closing the door behind her.

off to their ‘family’ dinner, then.]
