I guess my expectations were low as to avoid being disappointed...

[she sets the tea down on the coffee table, stirring at it with the small teaspoon she's been given at the counter. she glances up at the young man, then, and wonders if he came here despite seeming so sleepy?

in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, wanda conjures a second cup of tea, putting no fanfare to the action as she simply slides the cup closer to him.]

You are that guy from Thorne, aren't you?

[the one with a lot of questions and ideas.]

You had mentioned something about sleep schedules.

[Linhardt raises an eyebrow and looks at Wanda with a spark of interest in his eyes when she creates tea out of thin air, but he also reaches for it and takes a drink, closing his eyes. He enjoys tea. It certainly tastes like non-magical tea. Hopefully it doesn't have any unanticipated effects. Linhardt fights the urge to groan and forces himself to sit upright.]

Why would it be disappointing if nobody came? I would love if nobody came if I offered something - it would be extra time that I could spend studying or napping.

[Linhardt will take on responsibilities if necessary, but he is always glad to have an excuse to do nothing or to wander off along the side paths of his own interests.]

I am living in Thorne, yes.

[The mention of sleep makes him yawn.]

I usually sleep during the day. I find the world to be calmer at night.

[yeah, this guy definitely is the one that had some ideas about his sleep schedule. wanda decides not to answer the question about being disappointed, at the lack of people showing up, because it's not incredibly relevant.

wanda situates herself a little more comfortably—brings the cup of tea to rest at her lap.]

It generally is.

Before we start, [straight to business!] can you tell me what your experience with magic is, in general?

[Oh, they're skipping the small talk. Good. Linhardt isn't adept at it anyway, and, more importantly, he hates it. He gives Wanda a small smile and takes another drink of tea. Then he looks over at the bar and tilts his head. Is that honey on the counter? That sounds delightful.

With little fanfare, the honey container on the bar disappears and reappears over on the table in front of their couch. Linhardt spoons some honey into his tea and then returns the container in the same way he'd obtained it: through teleportation magic.]

I'm inherently magical. I've been training in faith and healing magic since I was a small child, and more recently - in the last five years - I've expanded my magical practice to include reason magic - physical magic. My primary interest at home is the impact of magical practice and experimentation on inheritance and on one's health.

[Linhardt turns to grab a small bag behind him and pulls out a notebook, which he offers to Wanda.]

These are my notes on how my world's magical system compares to Academic Magic in Abraxas. Seeing as Thorne has a disdain for High Magic, I have been unable to compare Fodlan's faith magic to High Magic.

[He clearly disapproves of Thorne's lack of magical curiosity.]

[it really is interesting. and while others might take it as a sign of arrogance or wanting to show off, wanda takes the demonstration of magic as a must for her to have a general understanding of what she is dealing with here. she is not learned in magic like one agatha harkness or doctor stephen strange, and being here in abraxas has pushed her to be a little less limited than 'it's just a feeling for me' about her own magic prowess.

when linhardt presents her with a notebook, wanda sets her cup of tea back down on the table and reaches for it, gingerly opening it on the first page and hoping she doesn't look entirely too... unused to this.]

Thorne really is full of magical scholars.

[she says with a sense of amusement, but she scans through the pages, skims over his writings.]

—I'm not too familiar with a lot of these concepts. Magic comes ... from emotion, for me. A thought, a want. [a whim. she turns her head slightly toward him, fingers gentle on the pages that she holds.] Would you like to take notes about High Magic, then? To add to your notebook.

[sleepfan]

[Yes. Yes, he would like that very much. Linhardt's blue eyes light up with excitement and he pulls out another notebook and begins jotting down information - Wanda's magic comes from emotion? Magic is the distilled force of will, yes, but... his hand moves quickly as he scribbles questions in quick shorthand.]

Yes. I would.

[He pauses. They're here to talk about High Magic, but...]

How much control do you have over your magic? You created tea, which is a fairly complex physical object. I do have magic which seems to be associated somewhat with emotion, but I have no control over when my Crest activates despite my best efforts.

[she mutters, amused, closing the notebook in her own hands so that she can focus on him and his questions. it seems that their conversation is spilling far from high magic and more towards her own personal experience with magic. wanda nods, to show that she is listening to him.]

It took some time, but I… think I have almost full control of it now. There are times based on my own emotions that I might be far too overwhelmed to really control it very well.

[like in those moments when she is overwhelmed with grief or pain that’s too much to bear.]
