He keeps a respectable distance as well, though the visitor is given the Doctor's full attention now. ]
Why would you — oh, yes, silly Doctor. Beautiful blue police box. No, no, far from a police man. It's only this bit that's the most relevant — [ He points to the words on the exterior plate, then recites — ]
Advice and assistance obtainable immediately. And help. Do a bit of that now and then.
[ Now and then. He's not normally one for modesty, no, he'll extol his adventures and accomplishments about other things like his knowledge or adventures, but when it comes to the big things, the world-and-universe saving, well, he's far more understated particularly because all the saving he does is with the help of his friends and so many others.
He offers his hand now, actually remembering something passing for etiquette, though would take no offense if the other doesn't return it in kind. ]
I'm the Doctor! And —
[ Do give him a moment; here he is, all swept up in talking about his TARDIS, he's finally clued in that following along with the man is...the night itself? Oh, now that's terribly interesting. Looking up and all around, and now back to the man with more scrutiny, curiosity, and delight, the Doctor takes further note. ]
And you, you've brought something with you. Oh, this is good, this is extraordinary, do tell.

at least, he senses no harm from the other. it makes his statement all the more bolder. }
You'd be a terrible cop. Good. { a doctor, he can handle. they actually do help people. even if the way it's presented makes it seem like a doctor that isn't medical at all. instead of letting the questions pile on, he'll let it peel back and uncover itself in the silent observing way he's done. he looks up to see the night has indeed followed him as he wills it. if it's there, it means it's welcomed, which causes the tension on his shoulders to ease. he's overdue in having a conversation just for the sake of having one, so he decides to stay a bit longer. }
So Doctor is the name you prefer? Louis. That's mine. It's pronounced the French way. As for the night sky, it happens... Not for everyone. I'm guessing you haven't been long in the Horizon? I'm still getting the hang of it even half a year later. It manifests what we want at will. I prefer the night. It stays with me. { he's not ready to see the sun again, even if it's the horizon version of it. he's grateful the horizon respects it or his will is indeed strong. the sky fills with a twinkle of stars, to the same ones he might have seen if he were back on earth. } That there, your box, is that your domain? In there?
{ he raises his eyebrows with speculation. yes, he's going to ask. it's akin to a man saying he prefers to sleep in a closet. it's not particularly out of the realm of possibility, considering the way the doctor speaks about it as if it were his prized car to take care of indefinitely. }

— and a terrible cop, evidently. ]
The name I prefer and the name I chose. A promise I made, you might say. [ Louis. His new friend who brings the night and the stars with him. Oh, the Doctor is very intrigued indeed. ]
Louis — [ The Doctor speaks his name correctly and with a gentle fondness. He does love people, after all, and they're all important to him, which is conveyed in the simple utterance of the other man's name. Smiling, the Doctor reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small golden key, holding it up between them before wrapping his fingers around it and turning back towards the TARDIS doors. ] I'm glad to meet you.
Have a look with me, I'll show you. It's so much more than a box, more than you could dream. If we weren't here, I could take you across the stars to France right now — seventeenth century, fifth century, thirtieth century. Oh, that was a good time, I'll tell you about it later!
[ With the doors opened, the Doctor stands aside to allow Louis a look. Of course, it's not nearly complete but the bones of it are there, the console with its buttons and levers, the comfort of a home snatched taken from him so unexpectedly. ]
