HELLO ALL AND WELCOME TO SAM'S CAPTAIN AMERICA COOKOUT!!!!

Over the last week or so, Sam has been going out of his way to contact as many people as he knows to invite them to a cookout at his place in the Horizon. He knows that after the jailbreak, a lot of people were separated, and this was his first thought on how to bring people together. The purpose behind it is simply because Sam thinks that the one thing all of them have in common, opinion on the Singularity and their situations aside, is that they were all brought here and can actually access the Horizon. He sees merit and use in coming together when they can, especially in ways that don't involve the politics of the land they're now living in. So, what better way to do that than around food?

The long and short of it is - this is a peace meal. Leave your issues at the door. Sam has very few rules and there is very little he will give in terms of what this cookout will entail, but three things he will make very clear:

1.) There will be no fighting at his home. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass.
2.) There is no meeting or serious reason for this cookout. Literally, he just wants people to come together who may no longer be able to see each other due to the travel constraints. It's meant to be fun. Come have fun. (he knows y'all know what that is, even when some of you pretend you don't). Bring food if you want to! There is also a kitchen (if you know what that is) and places to crash. Hope you like seafood!
3.) Anyone who can come into the Horizon is welcome. He'd love it if everyone came, so spread the word.

The cookout itself is set up out front, with picnic tables and chairs and fire pits and lights abound. There are tables set up near grilles if anyone wants to do any actual cooking outside, and a table (probably multiple) set up with sides and napkins and utensils. There are a variety of different places to go and sit and hang out while you're eating. Anything and everything you can want is available - food, drinks, yard games, music playing from out in the trees that will remain consistent unless someone tries to find the speakers and hijack the playlists, etc. If you can't find something outside, you're more than welcome to check the house.

All throughout the party, too, there will be a new friend. Red, as Sam fondly calls him, is a blood-red hunting hawk with silver in between the feathers. He can be found circling around Sam quite often, or perched on his shoulders, but also if you are out and about you can often see him checking up on anyone and everyone. He's a very curious little bird, and also pretty sassy, if you want to interact with him.



If you haven't, or have, been to Sam's domain before, feel free to take a look around. Anywhere is open (save for one locked bedroom) so everyone has open access, but most of the cookout itself will be located in the front yard.

OOC: This is mean to be an OPEN LOG, so leave your TLs or closed threads below! This party will last basically as long as people want it to, but the idea is for it to be an afternoon into the evening. Y'all have free reign save for destroying Sam's home, but if you have any questions, hit me up on plurk (disarmingly or disco (dai#3757). Sam's TL is below, and he will be bouncing around like the good host he is, but lets get a little party started.

Kylo assesses Abigail a little more closely at that, though whatever he sees doesn't appear to deter him or affect his mood or tone. He's long since decided whatever criteria Ambrose used to judge any of the Summoned a failure or a success are so flawed an instrument that he sees little value in considering why anyone might have been condemned to the dungeon.

"A pity you didn't have anyone willing to advocate for you."

Still, a little late to suggest she try convincing Thorne of her worth, given that Kylo hasn't seen her wandering about the castle and the dungeons have been emptied. He doesn't extend a fire-tipped hand as he offers: "Kylo Ren. One of the few remaining in Castle Thorne."

"Abigail," she replies, offering a smile that's bright and genuine, rather than one of her usual practised ones. Though the curiosity returns to her expression as she takes in the rest of his introduction. "You stayed there? Why?"

"Why would I abandon the only faction with any interest in using the Singularity, the only power on this planet capable of returning me to my own galaxy, to throw myself on the mercy of the faction that has no interest in touching it... or the one that wants to see the source of all magic destroyed?"

It seems fairly simple, to Kylo. His mouth tugs at a corner.

"And on nothing but the word of two strangers who refuse to explain their own agenda. No. Thorne, and access to its knowledge and power, best serves my interest."

She frowns a little as she listens, realising that she knows next to nothing about the factions in this place, only what she's picked up overhearing at the card tables at the inns of Nott that she's begun to frequent in order to get a little money to support herself.

"That's actually a pretty good reason," she has to reluctantly admit. "I bet they won't make it easy for you to go home, though, after all the effort of bringing us here."

"No," he agrees, though he doesn't seem particularly distressed at the thought. "Not until we've accomplished the task we were summoned for. But difficult is better than impossible."

If anything, Kylo looks like the kind of person who prefers difficult over easy, and rarely accepts that anything could be impossible. He watches Abigail curiously.

"You're difficult," he comments after a moment, then supplies the context once he remembers most people don't have the ability to read minds to search for it: "To place. Most of the time it's simple to see which of the two a person would choose. But you... Solvunn or Cadens... I can't decide."

Abigail actually looks quite pleased that she's not that easy to put into a neat box.

"Actually, I didn't choose either. I didn't trust two random strangers opening magic portals any more than you did. But I couldn't just stay in jail, so I ran. I'm in Nott."

Pleased with the answer, the reasoning behind it and the recognition of commonality, Kylo smiles. It's not exactly the warmest of smiles, and there's very little about the oversized volcano man that suggests kindness— but there's something like satisfaction spreading over his face. Approval, perhaps.

"What if I told you the castle's policy has changed?"

There's a pause while she considers it. She'd only just stopped having bad dreams about being dragged back to Thorne, but it's a much better option than living in the slums of Nott and trying to scrape together enough money to eat by winning at cards and picking pockets.

"I'd feel safer there," she admits. "Until they change their minds and throw me back in prison for no reason again."

"Those of us who protected Ambrose from attack have earned... position, at the castle. If you chose to return, I think you would find the welcome far warmer."

Whether he's any more trustworthy than the Thornean authorities or two strangers opening portals to the unknown is, of course, her decision to make, but Kylo seems very comfortable in his assessment.

"You'd advocate for me?" She's surprised, but her gratitude at the idea is clear in her eyes. Another moment as she considers, weighing up her options and hoping she's not walking into a trap. But she doesn't believe for one moment that the strange volcano man is trying to trick her.

She nods, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "All right."

Truthfully, he hadn't really considered actively advocating for her so much as informing Jolene that he'd found one of the runaways willing to return to a castle no longer imprisoning its Summoned, but the moment Abigail says the words he realises that yes, in fact, he would— and not just because her return to the capital would provide further evidence of Ambrose's misjudgments.

He nods the affirmative. "I can be in Nott within the day, and we can return to the castle together. Are there others with you?"

"Not with me. There are a couple of others I've seen here, but I don't think they want to be found." And unlike her, they weren't trying to go it alone, which was definitely the main reason for her craving somewhere a bit more stable.
