While Steve could joke that he can't imagine who Sam learned that kind of behavior from, the fact is that this is just another trait that they share in common. And to be fair, he gets it. Mag has been a lifesaver for them and it's not often that they get the chance to really show their appreciation like this. Even with so many hands on deck to help with the renovations, Sam wants to be the one putting in the most hours.
And maybe others haven't necessarily noticed, but it would be impossible for Steve to miss. He's been no slouch with his effort on the repairs either, and yet it feels like even he can't keep up with Sam. Sam gets back to their apartment after Steve and leaves in the morning around the same time, so the math isn't exactly difficult.
So when Jesper presents his plan, Steve has no reason to protest. Sam deserves appreciation just as much as Mag does, and yet he would never ask for a thing. Which means that everyone else has to band together to give it to him. While Steve doesn't know how long he can maintain the element of surprise, he can at least get Sam out of the way for a day.
To be honest, their apartment falling into a disorganized mess as they've both been hard at work has been getting under Steve's skin, but that will all be fixed soon enough. ]
Not as far as I know. [ Steve returns Sam's smile with an easy one of his own, then steps over to him, his expression shifting to a sterner one that will brook no argument. ] You need a break. [ The toll on Sam may not be obvious to most, but Steve has picked up on it. It's a decent excuse to drag him far away from the inn for the day. ] Actually, we both do. [ And that admission might make Sam more willing to go along with this — if a bit more suspicious, too. ]

okay. it is reaching a point of not being livable. and there is a part of sam that knows it's getting to steve - he's always been the one of them who prefers the orderly lines, clean rooms, etc etc etc. sam could attribute it to a lot of things, but it doesn't really matter when he knows this whole process has most likely been pushing every single one of steve's buttons. it helps when they're both the type to spend all their time working, when they're not even back in the room all that much to begin with, and now sam just needs to finish up with the inn renovations so he can start on cleaning this up.
anyway. that's next on the list. first is-
well. what's currently on the list is the fact steve is now walking towards him with that stern, i won't argue about this sort of expression, and mentions something about a break. sam huffs a laugh, shaking his head. ] Man, don't we all. This whole thing has been a lot of work. [ and...yeah, alright. so steve knows sam better than most. knows that it will take that admission, that we both do before sam's shoulders start to fall - any kind of pushback slipping right away.
because steve didn't ask for all this, it was pretty much entirely sam and jesper's plans, but he's supported sam at every stop along the way. and if he's admitting he needs a break (because they both do), well. ]
Okay, I'll bite. What'd you have in mind?

Nor does he want him to, it's just a matter of feeling more organized.
Still, that can wait for after the renovations are done, when there isn't sawdust and paint buckets and containers of nails all over the place. It'll feel really good to do some proper work on fixing up the space, once Jesper has worked his magic with whoever else he's recruited to the cause. ]
It has. [ And while it isn't hard work, it's not pushing through a battle or keeping the lid on a war, it's still physically and mentally exhausting when you do it for hours day in and day out. So yeah, they're allowed to take a break, even when it's not from world-ending, live-saving work.
Honestly, he had a few different ideas for how to fill up a whole day, but he figures he'll start with what Sam might find most interesting. ] What about checking out some of the museums? Their featured exhibits are changing all the time. [ And Steve is going to hazard a guess that Sam hasn't made the time to visit any of them in a while. ]
