[ Steve can't say he knows much about Jo's background or what she's been through before arriving here, but the fact that she can handle that smell without retching or coughing says a lot.

Not that he's going to ask. He doubts either of them want to talk about even more death on top of what's already been shoved in their faces. ]

... Yeah. I didn't go to that one either. [ And from what he's heard, it's a good thing he didn't. He crosses his arms and shakes his head, working at the sand beneath his foot with the sole of one shoe. ] Neither of them were great people, but this still rubs me the wrong way. Making a spectacle of it.

[ He knows that public executions used to be commonplace on Earth too, at least in some areas, but that doesn't mean he has to like this. ]

[ Her voice is even. Not so much careful as it is weighted level. Even with all her disgust, she knows better than to cause too big a scene, or give too angry a retort, especially right here. Where people are always watching. Where things could be heard and taken back. She hates the game required for the little freedom the Summoned have in Caden's (and that somehow, it's here that those freedoms are largest), but she's learned. ]

That one was as much a statement as this one.

From what I heard, it would definitely make any of Josselyn's followers think twice about following in her footsteps...

[ But judging by the stormy look on Steve's face, that doesn't mean he thinks it was right, that Josselyn's crime was deserving of her body being ripped apart and turned into fodder.

Anyway, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt if you're in the middle of something. [ He looks her over, trying to figure out if she was coming or going from the city. He is a little curious to know what she's up to, as it's not every Summoned who will leave the safer confines of the city for the untamed desert. ]
