Yennefer / Thorne / Closed
He doesn't blame her for anything that happened with the myriapod. If she hadn't pulled his power from him they'd likely all be dead.
But she'd seemed different for awhile there, when the pair of mages got their memory download, and then that swiftly changed.
What?
It's important for him to keep apprised of Yennefer. She's one of the only ones that could make or break Lucifer's life in Thorne. She's the only one with the queen's ear.
Anakin was gone though (shame, he'd like the guy
go figure) and Lucifer could put two and two together. So again, just as he usually does when he finds her, he hip-checks her doorframe, arms folded, and asks:] You ready to blow off some steam? [If she agrees Istredd is absolutely getting a 'brb' memo because in no way is he letting on this might happen.]

she misses him, and gods she feels pathetic. hates it, how it rips away at her chest. it's ridiculous that she cares this much, that it affects her this much, no matter how it is her mind spins.
and perhaps it is because she keeps pushing it off that she gets to this point - frustrated and quick to anger. agitated and edged. there's a reason her classroom is empty when he gets there, and part of it is that oli and willam know yennefer well enough by now to know to avoid her while she's in these moods, rescheduling and moving other classes and meetings that might have otherwise taken place. ]
I don't have time for you today. [ she snaps before he even gets a word out, having felt his presence approaching, having known - in some disconnected part of her - that this was coming.
the question, however, catches just enough of her attention. stills her hands for just long enough that she decides to look over to him, her brow furrowed, immediately suspicious and lacking any kind of patience to even try and hide it. ]
Why? What do you care?

And if Yennefer continues as she is, she is going to make a mistake. The difference with her is that the result could be disastrous to the rest of them.]

because it doesn't matter that some part of her knows it. recognizes how it is always in this state that she makes the worst of her decisions. knows that this is the most dangerous thing she could feel. it doesn't matter right now, because no matter what the outcome is, she will outright refuse to believe lucifer would be here to help with that.
now- the distraction of it all is still an idea. enough of her has attached onto the idea that in those following moments, she can't quite shake herself of it. even if she doesn't trust his motives. ]
What's in it for you?

The problem with them being so close in personality--not the same, not completely the same--is that sometimes he treats her as he would need to be treated.] A good ol' fashion tussle. I do like other ways to get the blood flowing [bleeding, really] especially when my mind doesn't have a beast rattlin' around.

yennefer would do just about anything in this moment to physically rip that grin from his face. so if he is the one offering the option, she won't turn it done. ]
Fine. [ she motions over her shoulder to the desk, her unseen servant working quickly and silently to right the rest of her papers and books back to where they need to be. there is no satisfaction to the lack of slamming books, but yennefer's anger has turned into a slow simmer. ] If you wish for pain that badly, I'm not going to deny you.
[ she walks, then - up the middle aisle of her room and past him through the door. she knows where she's going, and lucifer can either follow her or be left alone in the hallway. the practice arenas underneath the castle will have to work for now, and that is where she is headed. ]

He needs this in a different way than she does, but there is a benefit nonetheless for them both.
That she so easily was led into this situation--well, he doesn't need to ever tell her that.
He follows, because of course he does, because he always does when she leads.
Maybe there will become a time where he doesn't. Where she goes somewhere he doesn't follow. Where he chooses to stay behind, one foot rested back.
(It will likely be a very dark, very bad, day.)] It's so gracious of the Lady Yennefer to acquiesce to my request. [It's said because they're in public. It's said, despite whatever screwed-up relationship or lack thereof that they have, Lucifer make sure her reputation is sound. He needs her in that place of power, so tentative in that the same place of power could destroy him. She needs this. He needs this. But regardless of everything--his desire, his pride--she has to win.]

the return of her chaos had been important, had been like moving a broken limb for the first time without pain, but it had only been a fraction. there could be no grand uses of her chaos if she wished to keep her lack of it a secret still. when added to the growing hole that anakin's disappearance left in her chest, it was a dangerous combination.
really - she should have thought of it sooner. but even if she had, there hadn't been anyone she truly wanted to break. hadn't been anyone who came to mind that she would want to take all this out on. the fact her mind hadn't immediately gone to lucifer is what's puzzling, but it doesn't matter much anymore. because they are heading through the halls and down into the lower levels, down where the mages practice their more combative magics. it's so gracious of the lady yennefer he says, and she shoots him a glare - one that would say to shut the fuck up, if she wasn't also aware he was saying it for her. for this game that they both have to play.
she doesn't say anything else as they head down into one of the open arenas (or, rather, it had been previously occupied - but when she and lucifer had stepped down into the lower level, word spread fast. none of the younger students wanted to be caught dead in yennefer's way, so two younger mages who had planned to use the area cleared out quickly to go find a different area to practice. yennefer steps into the area and heads to one specific side, turning only once lucifer has stepped in behind her. ]
Do we need to specify rules, or shall we just get to it?
/)_(\
He's also got to not get his ass kicked immediately, and that means the name of today's game is whack-a-mole.] But I'll let you get the first strike. [Because his answer is agility and evasion. He'd love to have a dance with her magic singing as his partner, and if he can get in close, get his fingers like claws wrenched to peel into her skin--well it'd be a bonus, but not a necessity. His hands are his only weapon here.
His blade as always is hidden away and obscured. There's enough possible onlookers that he won't allow it to be any consideration.
But she knows that all he needs is his hands. ]

the anger that has been building under her skin is pushing outwards, hitting a peak that she no longer focuses on pushing back. he says oh, we can just get to it and she doesn't really wait to hear that second set of words, doesn't really let him finish setting his feet. in half a second, her hands are up, pushing a wall of force energy directly at his knees and feet, which should - if she acted fast enough - still be in motion to find his footing.
yennefer knows it won't be this easy. she knows that he has plenty more up his sleeve, and really, there is a deeper part of her too that knows this is all for show in the first place. but truthfully, honestly, that isn't the point. the point is that she can do this, that she has the chaos to use, and that finally - finally - there is a way to let it explode. ]

Because this?
This is beautiful.
He'd never call her that, never even let Istredd feel the thought from him (not because Istredd would care, oh no, it's purely because Lucifer simply refuses to let anyone know it).
But she's beautiful. Lucifer's never really seen her on the attack. He's seen her through a waterfall of overbearing thoughts and his power overwhelming and yet scattered away from him and her holding the other end of his rope for whatever she stole of his power...
He's never seen her move. On her own. Under her own strength not something borrowed.
Anger is beautiful, straight-up.
Her blow does knock about his footing but he sweeps over it, finding his balance with an eerie amount of grace and he goes with the strike instead of drawing away.] If you wanted to dance that badly, you could've just asked. [His feet skip, and he ducks low, and charges for her. A bird divebombing yet still with his feet touching the ground, one hand tucked at the small of his back--a waiting defense--the other determined to make purchase with her arm and yeah
okay
maybe he does want to claw her apart a little more than just petty desires.]

[ her voice is cold, sharp. she doesn't even bother raising it, knowing that the message will make its way to him one way or another.
because she is angry, and the moment she stepped out into this arena she's decided to let it free. and it feels good, too good, dangerously similar to the steps of sodden and dangerously similar to staring down a diving dragon and dangerously like she might just lose control over it all.
she won't - because she knows how it feels to lose it, to have it taken from her, and to live without that feeling. to live without control. now that it's returned to her, her chaos and her control of it, she knows how far she can go.
there is no army to burn down, here. no thousands and thousands of bodies to set fire to, as well as the entire valley with it. no, she has one enemy here, and while part of her wants to end this as quickly as she can, a larger part of her doesn't.
the blow does land, but not squarely enough, his reflexes quick and honed. yennefer expects it, is already in the midst of her own step to the side. he is diving towards her, one arm tucked behind his back, and she sweeps her hands around - pushes another wave of force at the back of his legs and ankles, adding more momentum than he's prepared for as she steps out of the way of his reach. and even if he does reach out to close the space, she's got her hand prepared to guard herself from whatever it is he's going to try and striker her with. she knows it won't be enough to fully take him down, but as he passes by her, she pushes even more into it, trying to shove him into the nearest wall. ] Or I'll do it for you.

Not helping, but nothing Lucifer is doing is helping except the ultimate goal. Funny, and fitting, for him. The moment he understands Yennefer's trajectory he doesn't easily accept it as much as he will, eventually, no matter what, hit that wall. He'll just fight in the process. Inhuman swipes of hands and a magic buzzing under his skin that he can't actually use here but might remind her all the same of the mountain.
There's not enough anger, of hatred, of manipulation beyond his usual set bounds, though could give him enough oomph to push a grace-fueled shot.
But Yennefer doesn't know that.
His back slams into the wall, spine straight, and his eyes are alight with fire. He wants her close. He wants her to feel him cornered, back to the wall, nowhere to go. He wants her to remember what it's like to have the devil pinged, like Geralt in his most feral state had felt, but Lucifer isn't experiencing Koth visions here. Lucifer is, balanced on a razor-sharp blade, in control.
One of them needs to be in this fight, no matter how much he acts otherwise as his lips draw back in a sneer, white teeth revealed, more beast than man in most fight. Doesn't matter how under the weather he is. The myriapod isn't here, and that makes him all the more dangerous.
He pushes into her, teeth clenched and exuding annoyance and while he bites at his teeth like he's going to once again go for his throat, it's all feint, one hand another false attack, and the other? Power and weight and impossible--going for her side, intent on blood, and ruin.
He loathes being called 'monster' more than anything in the world, but the way he fights? It wasn't the myriapod that made him move as he did. It was just the myriapod pushing him beyond his limits, and blurring friend from foe.]
