I've got some books that I could let you borrow though my taste tends to run in the legal arena. Some fiction, some non fiction.

( but hey, he was willing to share. )

Hiking might be a little harder in Cadens. You might have better luck in some of the other cities. Cadens is more concrete jungles and all. Good for walking, not good for strapping your hiking boots on to climb mountains.

And I enjoy walking even if it's not hiking. Though... ( a pause, a thought ) if you wanted any help with your translation I could offer moral support? I don't know Braille but I can bring coffee and company.

I could always use company and coffee.

( because he tended to spend lengthy periods of time doing these translations and sometimes, he just forgot how late it was getting. coffee would just let him keep working.

and company might stop him from burning the midnight oil too much. )

Not many people know braille so don't worry about that. I've taught a few people the basics but I've adapted to having to go at it alone.

Then you will get it. And if you ever felt like showing me the basics I would absolutely agree. We can see if anything my mom taught me stuck.

She was a translator. Not in braille just... coffee and company sounds good.

( and work up to tbe braille. it wasn't the easiest thing to learn as an adult but he'd had some success with wanda so he thinks he could teach adrienne as well. )

But I've written up a few things that Wanda's studied that I'll give to you, see if it helps get you started.

I'm still living at the inn. Haven't been able to save enough to move out but it's comfortable enough.

What's the inn like? Living-wise.

I started staying at the barracks while I was helping there but I'm starting to think I need to find somewhere else. They... keep hinting about me signing up.

I don't mind it. It can be a little raucous downstairs if there's a party going on but those don't happen too often.

( and he could block it out when it did happen. )

Rooms are small but comfortable. And you don't have to worry about anyone trying to get you to enlist. Mags doesn't even try.

It's at least somewhere to think of. And you probably don't get woken as early.

( half-joke because they don't actually wake her, she's not on their clock, but she doesn't sleep in as much as she'd like to with some of the sounds going around it )

Besides, the drinks are only downstairs. That can't be too bad.

( he definitely appreciates just being able to go downstairs and get his drinks and feed. )

Though, Wanda wants me to move out, says it's time. I don't know, I kind of like this place.

I thought there wasn't a way to the other districts.

Oh no, she doesn't want me in Solvunn.

( she's made that plenty clear. )

No, she means into a more private residence.

But as far as I know, there was a time before I was here that some people switched factions. I think it's impossible now. Or nearly impossible.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like a terrible idea.

( having somewhere more private, though after spending her time lately at the barracks and the shared quarters there it's... well, it sounds very nice having some personal space )

I don't think this place could ever feel home but having something that feels... quiet? Safe? That's not bad.

It's not bad.

( there were some bad things about this place, some bad months, bad times, but overall, it's not the worst place that they could be. he knows that things could be a lot more terrible.

I think we got lucky in getting dumped in the Free Cities. I've heard some things about Thorne especially.

( she frowns and some of that reflects into her voice )

I've heard a little bit about Solvunn but I don't think I've met anyone from Thorne yet.

From what I've heard, it was the first region that was really...I don't know if it's discovered or what but it's the first. And they seem to be the most guarded.

( just from secondhand information. )

Everyone there lives in a castle and there's not a lot of freedom for them to move around. They seem to be the most uptight, if anything.

That... sounds like what you'd expect from a castle. From stories, anyway.

( her only real experience is children's stories and even in those there was a sense of restriction and rules )

I guess you've never been there?

I haven't.

From what I heard, there was a chance to go from one region to another awhile back but now it's nearly impossible. Very dangerous and stupid is what I've been told.
