"I don't know if they were always this bad or time and unlimited power eventually made them that way. Iris is the only goddess who seemed pretty cool, and she did indicate they used to care more about helping people." Julia doesn't know if it means that Iris was a younger goddess or she managed to hold onto some goodness longer. She probably wasn't perfect, but she cared, and that means something to Julia, it's what she's holding onto. She has no idea where she's going to be in a thousand years, if she's doomed to end up like them.

"I'm the real deal, yep. And my magic is totally teachable, the spells can be learned and used by anyone here." It's because there is magic in the air, it's more limited back home. And then limited by Brakebills controlling everything and thinking they had the final say. She's happy to bring the hedges mentality here; anyone can learn.

Julia shakes out her fingers and sparks like fireworks shoot out of them. In the start that was all she could do with it, it lacked control, but now she can wiggle her fingers and the change colors, sparkling as she blows it into the sky. It crackles and makes little firework sounds, a show on its own. She twists her fingers and they blow up, leading glitter to flutter down around them in a pretty display.
