[ Well, honestly, maybe that should be the Guardians of the Galaxy Model: Oops, sorry we [ broke something ] it wasn't intentional! Some days β it feels like it. At least this time, it's not really either of the two's present fault. Probably. ]
[ Technically, they hadn't even been together when this whole mess started. The mess being the twisters assaulting the main settlement again and again. It really feels like it's only luck that has kept them from becoming bigger than they have been and reeking more destruction. Nebula had been doing what Nebulas do in Solvunn - which is to say a bit of clearing out of the trails. Scare off predators when possible - because they really do live that "all lives have meaning" motto now - and deal with them if not... When the screeching started. ]
[ Crying. It was a lot of noise and for the first time she counts her blessings that her hearing isn't as good as it could be right now β ]
[ Because it's not one child she inevitably finds but a small gaggle of them (how? how did they all get thrown around?). She doesn't have a chance to question it even if she has a few choice words already on her tongue. They cry and for a moment, 0 just a moment, she'd never admit to more - Nebula freezes in something akin to alarm. It's not from the sudden crashing of branches, either, but from the sheer fact she doesn't know how to handle this particular situation. ]
[ The branches breaking and the sounds of low growls snap her to attention and this, this is decidedly easier as she swings spear off her back and snaps a low snarl: ]
Go.
[ ... It's probably at the kids. Probably. The snapping of branches comes from two directions β one smaller. Another kid, she thinks, worries. The other is too large and comes with the heated breath of an angry animal; There have been a lot of those the last few days with homes getting uprooted no doubt... More snapping. The kids don't move and there's still that smaller rustling: ]
Are you even listening? [ Frustratedly, ] Behind us. Go that way, now.
[ Before they get rushed from two directions; Unfortunately, the kids don't move. The smaller movement gets closer and the other - she lowers her spear in an offensive position. Why did it always have to go to shit? ]

He's got a knife in each claw, and a bag of sorts slung over his chest. He looks a little like he might have been on a casual little exploration journey versus whatever he was probably doing.
He looks between Nebula and the group of small, short humans, and wonders if maybe he's completely lost his mind or some god here has decided to cast hallucinations on him because this sure ain't a scene he's ever witnessed before. ]
What the hell are you guys doing here? [ And quickly regaining his wits back about him, he adds: ] Didn't you see that big thing over there?
[ Of course he means the bigger of the movements from earlier, and it sounds like it's getting closer ]

[ Children who still aren't moving and are now fascinatedly staring at the newcomer with trembling voices: awe or fear she couldn't tell. She just snarls and rolls her eyes: ]
Don't ask me. [ She answers, practically snaps; Refuses the recoil of something at the look he wears. ] My guess. The wind storm and now they won't leave.
[ Because they want an adult to help them and Nebula is not that adult (really she's not, she should be, but she's not). Her fingers flex on the pole as she glares down on them: ]
Stop standing here and get moving. [ Are you idiots? She wants to say. To anyone else, she would. She doesn't because they're children. At least the quick, too fierce way in which she snaps it gets them to scramble back in the direction the village should be. She puffs out something from her nostrils, back straight as she listens for the encroaching sounds. Moving, lowly she asks: ]
What is it?
[ The big thing. Though, really, it's not like they won't find out - that's just their luck. ]

A little weather system isn't gonna stop them from living their lives, now that they've got the freedom to live them.
But kids ain't the same, and that's probably a good thing. ]
All right. [ He groans a little in exasperation, but relaxes from his battle stance, the sharp ends of his knives no longer turned towards Nebula and the children.
He gestures instead towards them and puts on his best Patient Voiceβ’ β the same one he used to use with Groot when he'd still been nothing more than a little twig. ] Okay you dumb mini-humies, listen up: we're gonna get you back to safety, all right? There's a big bad monster out there but don't be afraid. Nebula and I are gonna help you.
[ To Nebula, he adds: ]
Dunno exactly what it is, I'm not really fully familiar with the bestiary here. But it's big and it's got a lot of teeth, and maybe scales? Yeah, I definitely saw scales.

Right. So stay in line and don't wonder off, or we'll let it eat you.
[ Okay. No they don't, but it sounds good enough? It sounds like a reasonable response. And while she feels the pressure of the hand of the child at her wrist there's mostly a bunch of solemn nods before she starts moving. ]
[ For now. ]
Scales. Something like that must have gotten displaced. [ Makes sense, with things tearing up as they are; If its habitat got destroyed it could wind up anywhere else. ] We'll need to make sure it doesn't get any closer to the Settlement.
[ Which is... They're a lot further in than she was when she started. ]

Hilarious, honestly.
And a great parenting technique.
Thoughts of Yondu has Rocket feeling a little bit heart-sore, but it doesn't feel as bad as it used to, at least. ]
Mm. [ Rocket grunts in agreement, his thoughts having been along the same lines. There have been a lot of that lately β changing weather patterns, creatures getting tossed about; it's possible that creatures from other worlds found a way back into this one again.
He walks alongside Nebula and the kids, senses back on guard for anything that might think to stalk their path. ] We'll get the kids back, and then what do you say to a little hunting trip?

[ If she sees the relation to Yondu she doesn't say it; That time on Ego's Planet was so messed up that the only cemented, definitive thought she had is: They all had issues. What else was new? ]
[ The children move, but it's far from a pace Nebula prefers in the best circumstances. Huddling, sniffling, slow. Her mouth twitches as she holds back the tongue that wants to say something. Instead offering a stiff nod to Rocket. ]
Sounds good to me. I'm getting restless anyway.
[ An admission, no surprises there. Nebula's life has always been mission after mission, even if these days some of the more high-stakes world saving ones got balanced with the rebuild Knowhere ones. There was always something to do. ]
[ A child stumbles, nearly falls on their face, but Nebula moves quick enough to grab them by the arm - they start crying, loud. ]
What? Nothing's wrong with you, calm down. [ Searchingly to Rocket, as the kids start to become ensemble - ] What's wrong with them?

But he can't blame her, even if something instinctually sympathetic has him stepping in to smooth the situation over. Last thing either of them needs is a headache from a buncha these humies suddenly crying as one loud, unwanted symphony. ]
They're scared. [ He pauses his pace now, turning around to the first crying kid. ] Dunno how these little morons all lost their way and wound up here, but that thing I was looking for earlier? I don't think it's gone.
