Either way, there's always something noticeably calming about spending a little time under the water, doubly so when he gets to speak with the fish-folk and other myriad of underwater critters. They've seriously got some of the funniest stories, and none of them involve regaling tales of his dad's sea castle renovations, which is almost a relief.
Anyway, an hour or so spent underwater does wonders for Percy's mind and body, its healing effects no doubt a result of his godly heritage. He feels stronger after a dip in the saltwater, and more energized, like he could run a couple laps around the nearby village and barely break a sweat. It's easy to go time-blind when the waters are generally dark anyway, but luckily for Annabeth (and his share of the sandwiches) that she doesn't have to wait too long.
The water ripples and the surface breaks, and a teenage boy emerges like he's simply leaving his room: he's completely dry, his hair its trademark windswept, and his clothing (the usual Thorne fare) dry and wrinkle-free, and very of this time. As he steps out onto the sandy beach, he stretches his shoulders and searches the shoreline for his girlfriend, casual as ever. ]
You wouldn't believe some of the stuff they've got down there.
[ Percy flops down next to her, eying the basket. ]
Also, I'm starving. Hi.

[ she much prefers percy as a boy. ]
[ he flops over beside her, and she tilts in to bop her shoulder against his, then leans in mroe to give him the quickest peck on the cheek. ]
I feel like my threshold for believability is shifting every day. Try me.
[ time to be a little mean. she puts her hand on top of the basket. ]
Who says I got food for you?

[ And even then, it's highly debatable. If they ever do get their hands on milkshakes for whatever reasons under whatever circumstances, he still has every intention on stealing a sip or like, five. For the principle of it. ]
But like, I guess I can find something in the ocean to nibble on.

[ it's like obligation to be contrary with percy. especially, now apparently, when to comes to milkshakes. she's going to fight him when he tries to steal hers, whenever they manage to find one again. ]
Fine. I might have found you a sandwich. [ it's more than one, but it'll be a little surprise. she opens the basket and takes hers out before shoving it over at him. he has hands, she doesn't need to serve it. ]

[ He's just saying! Milkshake appearances seem like a rarity, and if they ever do get to see a milkshake again, he's absolutely stealing a sip, no question, yeah, he will be fighting back on this.
It's very important.
Apparently. ]
Like, in the kitchens? [ he asks now, reaching for the basket to pull the other sandwich out. It looks decent enough. Edible, yeah. ] They let you smuggle these out?

[ can't believe he would doubt her like this, the audacity, love is over, etc. how did milkshakes become their new stupid thing? she doesn't care, she's going to stick with it too. ]
[ annabeth rolls her eyes. ] I bought them, loser. And I bought you two, but you can always wait till we're back at the castle.
[ it's all so stupid but she's leaning into it more than she might normally just because it feels so... normal. she'd rather playfully bicker with him than think about godhood with him. ]

[ Is he speaking from experience? No, you know nothing. ]
You bought them? With the stipend we get, you could get two?
[ Percy jokes, because look ... his allowance at ten years old was a lot more than the measly stipend they get from Thorne's coffers, and he'd spent all of his money on specialty feed and snacks for the horses, so he's kind of at a whopping 0. ]
Have you been saving up?

[ like a normal person. ]
[ she takes a bite from her own sandwich, giving him a brief Look as she chews and swallows it down. ]
Three, including my own. Some of us don't spend all our allowance on horse treats. And I bartered to get a discount deal. [ she might not have piper's charmspeak, but annabeth has always been very persuasive! ]
Sometimes we can have a nice treat too. [ not just the horses, which thorne would certainly take care of without percy's help. she's just saying. ]
