Singularity Study Sessions
WHO: Castle Thorne residents!
WHAT: A catch-all study room setting for awakening connections to the Singularity through meditation, and all other things Horizon. When not in use for group meditation sessions, the room is kind of Kylo's... office? where he will be working on his own projects.
WHEN: wibbly-wobbly ongoing, sessions began some time after the prison break and will be open for newcomers in the latest app round to join in too. Kylo's more generalised top-level is a catch-all, feel free to come visit at any time.

(This is something of a mingle log, so feel free to use this space for anything you like. I'll be putting up top-levels for interacting with Kylo specifically, please feel free to do the same if your character would be willing to help others get to the Horizon for the first time or would otherwise have use for a relatively private environment in Castle Thorne!)
Accomplishing anything at all here in Abraxas will require better understanding of the Singularity— and if Kylo and the other Summoned brought in during the first wave of Ambrose's project to touch it by proxy have learned anything, it's that the answers to their questions are much more likely to be found beyond the border of the Horizon than in Thorne's library. There's only so much to discover by studying the effects of the Singularity on this world, or even the countless others it touches. Perhaps it's better to go direct to the source.
For this purpose, Kylo has secured one of the castle's many rooms for use by the Summoned— a space where they can gather and explore their shared connection to the Horizon in relative safety, avoiding the potentially hazardous trek to the physical artifact at the very heart of the world. During sessions, the room is open to anyone who would like to visit the Horizon. Outside of them, the room is reserved for Kylo's personal efforts to study the Singularity. Sometimes, the work goes on behind closed doors. A group of Thornean mages — Kylo's recently formed task force — gather here on occasion, but are notably absent unless specifically requested.
Beyond the common architectural notes of high ceilings, intricate stonework and rich (if somewhat faded) tapestries, the main feature of the room is the collection of sumptuous cushions spread across the floor. Drapes cover the tall windows, while the soft illumination of magical lamplight lends the space a still, restful air. Alongside one wall is a table laden with pitchers of water and tall glasses, bowls of fruit and similar light refreshments, while a pair of long couches have been set up along the other.
Meditation is the key to entering the Horizon, and that's far more easily achieved when everyone's comfortable.

It's true, of course. Kylo had earned his promotion, and it feels good to have both his efforts and his singular talents recognised— by Thorne and by his fellow Summoned. Particularly those intelligent enough to understand the purpose he's working towards without having it explained to them.
"I'm surprised you haven't heard all about it already," Kylo notes, a slight tic at the corner of his mouth betraying amusement. He's noticed Brad's methods, his undeniable talent for keeping a finger on the pulse.
"All sorts of interesting rumours circulate around this castle."

"You flatter me," he says, hand shifting slightly as though it's covering his heart, chin dipped in acknowledgment, before resuming his earlier position, "but it's tough to be everywhere at once."
He's not at all denying the implication that he's familiar with the interesting rumours that fill the castle's halls; he is. But even then, since the escape, people have screwed their mouths shut more often than not as soon as they think they're being a little too chatty. Basic respect gets you a lot further along when you're not an outsider in the aftermath of a massive security breach. So, it'll just take a bit longer, then.
Brad unfurls himself, pushing himself off from the wall to stand upright, hands at his sides, a glance at the tome-covered table before back at Kylo. "The people who live here aren't a monolith, though that goes without saying. Apparently there's quite a bit of disagreement between some of the high-up mages." He cocks his head. "Your guys are good?"

Kylo hums a low note of agreement— with the words Brad says, but also the unsaid behind those words. It is a little early to be expecting the castle to surrender its secrets, though between them they have begun to map out a general outline. What people refuse to say can be just as illuminating, to a skilled observer.
"Four mages, each with their own specialties and interests. Two of them, Felaine and Kerrick, I have worked with before. The other two are newly volunteered— but I have been impressed with them so far. I believe they can be trusted to follow my instructions, though their ultimate loyalty is still to Thorne. Understandably."
His lips quirk, and after a moment he corrects himself:
"To Ambrose, most likely, though I will be delivering my reports to his first apprentice, Jolene."

"Good help can be hard to find," he says. Not necessarily, though. Not always, if you've got an eye for talent. And he's got a pretty good working relationship with Kylo already, so Brad would say Kylo knows what he's doing in that department. "But I doubt any disagreements between superiors will get in the way of the current pursuit of knowledge. What's done with your findings? Maybe, but I'm guessing that's further down the line."
And then he lets the grin fall from his face, lowers the volume of his voice. It's not that as though he's particularly worried about being overheard, but why chance the trouble?
"Word is those two are at odds. Apparently throwing people into prison and then all of those people escaping has proved to be quite controversial," he says, voice flat, like that's a shock. "Jolene might be the more reasonable one there."
And he'd guess that's probably why Kylo is reporting to her, not Ambrose — a better bedside manner does wonders. Except she might also be the more gullible one, since he's heard she cited Yennefer as a problem with Ambrose's system, even though she clearly knew at least one of the other prisoners who fled very, very well. Or maybe not, since it's not like Brad actually knows what that's about. It's not like he really cares all that much, either; mostly he's heard that the Queen is a bitch and is way more interested in getting by her side than anything the mages have got going on. Who doesn't love a bitch with immense political power?
