Who: Altaïr & Nadine
When: /waves hand vaguely at September
Where: Free Cities clinic
What: Stitchin' up, catchin' up
[Altaïr winces as he elbows his way through the door, the movement nagging at the small but annoying injury he's here to see to. Nothing serious, but he feels foolish for letting it happen — though not as foolish as the young man who'd given it to him clearly was. Perhaps mortified was a better word.
(Privately, he thinks it shows a great deal of promise. Even an awkwardly done flesh wound to a master Assassin is an impressive thing, not that that's a compliment he would give out loud.)]
Nadine? I have some work for you, if you've the time.
[It's not the first time she's stitched something up for him, but it might be the first time he feels compelled to seek out her specifically. There are plenty of healers in Cadens, many technically more qualified than Nadine, but after the past few months, something in him is loathe to turn to them. Nadine is one of few he actually trusts for this, relatively minor as it is.]

[Nadine is looking tired. Moreso than usual. Little surprise, considering she'd divided the clinic and shop into two separate locations, and then promptly lost over half her staff. And then started her field work. And war.
It's been a hell of a handful of months.]
Yeah, come on in, I've got about an hour before I have to meet my supervising doctor at the hospital.
[Something she's not looking forward to. She'd rather tend to whatever Altair needs tending to.
He doesn't often need her doctoring services, compared to some other among them.]

Another stitching-up. One of the young men from the mines.
[He says it so simply, as if that explains it all.]
It's a project of Cid's. I've been tutoring some of the older ones at hunting and light combat, so they can feed and defend themselves. One of them put more vigor into his sparring than I expected.
[She's allowed to make fun of him for taking the blow, but only a little.]

[Nadine is already washing her hands in preparation. Stitching she can do on auto-pilot at this point.]
It's a good thing you guys are doing, helping them out that way.
[It's better help than depriving them of their jobs. And those are useful skills for them to have. Especially with how things are now.]
Alright, come on, back room. We'll get you sewn back together and out of here in no time.

It's a worthwhile task. When I was his age I also had no parents, only mentors, so I'm glad to pass some of my experience on in a similar way.
[Minus the indoctrination. Probably. He follows her and begin shrugging out of his shirt. Easier this way for all parties.]
I wouldn't trouble you if I could reach it better myself. I imagine your studies include much more important work these days.

[It only takes a few moments to set up all she needs, to clean and close up the wound. Besides, some time chatting with Altair will put her in a better mood to deal with Dr. Manse.]
It's more than worthwhile. It's Good Works. [She manages to pronounce the capital letters.] I'm not that actively religious anymore, and I think a lot of the Bible is bullshit, but...I do believe in the idea of Good Works. And I was a kid without parents once, too, having someone helping and looking out for you, even a little...it makes a really big difference.
[Maybe with a little more of that in Nadine's life, she'd have made better choices sooner.]
But yeah, I've...been dealing with a lot of patients in hospital lately. If things keep going the way they have been...I might do a couple days of hospital work, when I get my license.

He listens to her carefully, hearing the distinction of certain words even if he doesn't really understand the meaning behind it.]
I've never been one for religion myself. Too much of my homeland has been torn apart because of it. But it is not such a terrible thing to aspire to something better.
[Divinity as determined by man, not false gods.]
What would you want to do with it in the long run? If not for everything that's been happening.

[Something about mob mentalities and insular societies and all of that.
She gestures for him to sit so she can clean the wound to prepare it, and considers his question.]
Open my own practice, probably. Have a proper doctor's office, maybe a couple of other doctors working there, too.
[People that probably won't vanish one day.]
Which I do plan on doing, as soon as I graduate. But hospitals have heavy loads, they can use the help. And I'm getting plenty of hospital experience lately.
if this is too old feel free to let go
Sometimes I find it strange, the way medicine is organized here. As if it must be a long and organized process to heal people. But I suppose they must find it more effective.
