Don't wait up, leave the light on
Who: Lord John & Ciri
When: Early October
Where: Witcher House, Free Cities
What: Bonding time!
Warnings: None atm, will edit if needed!
John finds himself settling in to his new setting inch by inch. It does help that the place reminds him so much of Geralt’s cabin in the woods he had built for himself, in the time that never was. Perhaps because, as he comes to understand, Geralt has built much of the furniture for this place as well. But there are touches from its other inhabitants as well.
Jaskier, for one, is practically dripping from every corner of the house. There are the plants that Geralt had warned him about, yes. And the pets. The decorating. Much like his personality, his sense of style has permeated the place. But he can see Ciri’s mark there too, now that he knows where to look.
He is grateful that he has been allowed to stay here with them. To be able to sleep in Geralt’s room with him, and be so easily accepted into their household by all of them. It eases the uncertainty he had felt initially, the thought that he might be intruding on this special family they had made for themselves. Instead, now John has to wonder if maybe, just maybe, there isn’t a place for him here after all…
Geralt had left early that morning on one of his hunts and John is doing his best to figure out what to do with himself on his first day without him there as a buffer. It’s silly, really. He is a grown man, he is a lieutenant colonel in the army. He has made it as far as the kitchen, and one could argue he is strategizing his next move. It might be generous, however.

Ciri hasn't been in one place long enough to make a home like this since she was a girl. Maybe it's mundane, but there's wonder still in the mundanity of it all, sometimes. The world goes on, and it hasn't been quiet. But she still has a home.
And she has been entirely happy to welcome John into it. Her memories of John are a bit distant, confused in that dreamlike state of what they'd experienced, but it doesn't matter. They have time to get to know each other yet, in the real world, despite the initial awkwardness that might have cropped up here and there.
In light of John's presence, Ciri has decided to stick closer to the city for a while, after spending much of her recent weeks away on jobs. It might be why Geralt felt comfortable going out on his own errands today.
Whatever the case, Ciri approaches the kitchen, her socked feet making no noise at all, though that's not something she's thinking about.
"Oh. Good morning, John."

He turns to offer her a slightly sheepish smile over his shoulder. There's no way of hiding his moment of surprise, he might as well embrace it.
"Ah -- good morning, my dear," he offers. "My apologies, I was just..." He trails off, shrugging slightly, before offering her the truth. "Gathering wool, I suppose." He smiles, ruefully. "I suppose I have not quite settled into a routine of my own just yet."

"Geralt abandoned you, and now you don't know what to do with yourself?" she teases.
Brushing past him into the kitchen, Ciri starts pulling things out of cabinets.
"Want to see something fun? I hope you like coffee."

"Something like that," he replies, offering her a little shrug.
Sitting forward from where he had perched himself, John peers curiously at where Ciri starts digging around in the cabinets.
"I do," he agrees. "I was a member of a coffeehouse back at home, as a matter of fact."
