[ Cid nods, satisfied enough with that answer. Hope is all they've got when it comes to all of this, really. ]

Took up a bit of a wager with a friend, last time I was in the Nether.

[ He moves to the makeshift desk he's tucked into a corner of the room, the surface clearly unusable at the moment for the way it's laden with what clothes they could scavenge from the settlement. He produces a small item from inside one of the drawers, barely half the size of his palm. ]

Catch. [ He tosses it to Viktor, and the little thing gains bouncy as it nears, flying in a lazy circle around its new owner before settling wherever he'll allow it. It'll be a somewhat familiar creature for Viktor, though closer in shape to the animal from Cid's own world. ] It's a travellers' charm. Meant to ward off bad luck, keep you safe on a long journey. Made from a bit of scrap from the old workshop.

My friend thinks it's a load of superstitious rubbish, and she's likely right... but you'll test it for us, won't you? [ He winks.

There's no need to tell Viktor that he made it himself; that much will be evident. Just as the vague resemblance to Viktor's own not-so-little friend is evident. Whether Cid's actually made any sort of bet at all is up for debate, but he trusts that Viktor will let him get away with this: a sentimental trinket that seems wholly inadequate to the task of sending off a friend, from a man who struggles to voice that sentiment at all.

He hadn't planned to give it away now, exactly -- how could he? -- but he's glad it's the first one he made.

He thinks of asking Viktor to bring something back to Valisthea, to Midadol, Otto, even Jill if fate has returned her there... But the fact is that he's been crafting his farewells for Valisthea since that fateful day on Storm when Ramuh had wakened in him. All he's had to leave behind is there already. He'd not force his daughter to grieve him all over again. If Viktor finds Midadol in his travels, his presence will be gift enough. ]
