Which means little, honestly; if he's someone from home, then he's an unexpected arrival. Seems he's a welcome one, if Viktor leaves him in his shop alone. She has no reason to doubt this Jayce, so she only shrugs, her comment mild, not really meaning anything by it. Viktor's hardly the chatty type (unless it comes to his projects), and she's perfectly fine with that all around.
"I came to check if he needed anything, and how the last batch of supplies worked out for him. I'm heading out to the desert. Plan to take the mask he made me and try out the advanced air filtration system, or whatever he called it."
After a certain point, Jayce wonders if he should be mildly hurt that Viktor never talks about him. It's been multiple people saying it now so he just sighs. "Yeah, I'm not surprised, he's not much of a sharer." Understatement. Viktor barely shares information with him, after years of working together. At least this woman doesn't seem likely to try and magically slam him to a wall like Wanda was considering.
"I'll tell him to message you if he has extra ideas, if I can have your name, but I know we've managed to find uses for all the supplies he asked for." Jayce has gone through them himself. Interesting that he's working with someone who seems to be a hunter, but it makes sense. They can keep their eyes out for things people in the city can't possibly get without paying for it. A good deal.
"Oh good, it'll be a good test for that if you're headed out for awhile. Do you want to take one of my multi-tools? I'm not finished with the more extensive ones, but they can be helpful on the go." Jayce snags one of his table and offers it to her. It looks like a pocket knife on the outside but there are various tools that are pulled out from the sides so she can see there's more to it. Scissors, little knives, a saw, a screwdriver, a few more details.
"Just a few weeks. I started freelance work for a blacksmith on my second day though, so I moved quickly."
She doesn't offer her hand (not really a thing, where she's from), but she does nod in greeting. Amicable enough.
The multi-tool, though-- that earns Jayce a much more enthusiastic reaction, as Ciri immediately steps closer, leaning over to take a good look at all the little sharp implements he pulls out of the main body of the tool, which appears smooth and easy to slip into a small pouch or pocket without fuss.
"Now this is an invention," she marvels, reaching out to take it and fiddling with pulling out the little bits and bobs, then folding them back up. "Fascinating. Not much use to replace a real knife, but I can see it being convenient in a pinch, or if I'm meant to leave my weapons at the door somewhere."
The perfect hidden stabby thing. No one will suspect.
She looks up with renewed interest when he mentions he's a blacksmith too. Ciri grins.
"You and Viktor have that in common, then. Getting right to work. I'd like to see the blades you make."
Jayce smiles when she says this is an invention, always pleased to when his ideas capture someone's attention. "Definitely take it out, let me know if you think of additions that might help you while hunting. I usually have seventeen options, but what I look for in them is different from someone else." Considering he is updating his toolbelt, that really is where his plans go for, something good for people working with their hands. Not always something for out in the wild.
The blades are very sharp though, newly so, and they could absolutely be lethal in the right hands. He's always used them for cutting wire or leather, so a difference in priorities.
"I had an idea in my head about something for travelers, I'll ask your thoughts when it's more than a concept." Jayce envisions things first, then he sketches them until he thinks he can actually make it real, and only then does he put it into action. Jayce and Viktor both have instincts for making things that would be helpful, and not always the first thing other scientists look for.
"Yeah neither of us like having idle hands." Or are capable of having them. Work is always on their minds. He grins back at her. She seems great, he likes her already. "Sure, it's actually what Lee, the blacksmith I signed up with, is making me do the most of. Side orders she couldn't keep up with." Swords are generally pretty straight-forward, and he likes routine!

She eyes Jayce curiously.
"How long since they pulled you out?"
