[ open ] HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA (not you abraxas)
Who: Julie + Dean + open
When: July 4
Where: Julie's club in the Horizon
What: June sucked, it's time to party patriotically 🇺🇸 Dean's invite here 🇺🇸 no, the Americans don't care that it's not America, they're doing it anyway (just like real life)

[ Approaching Julie's club on this particular day, you can tell from the outside that something is going on. The pink neon has been swapped for red, white and blue, the pink carpet and velvet ropes changed to the good ol' stars and stripes. The front doors are wreathed in an enormous and very patriotic balloon arch, and they're wide open. American flags hang across the walls of the entranceway, and the music is what most Americans would recognize as July 4th standards.
Inside, Julie has obviously been incredibly hard at work, and the club has undergone its most massive changes to date. The entire first floor has been modified -- where there was once a dance floor and seating, there is now an Olympic-sized in-ground pool, dotted with a variety of American themed floats and balls. The glittering quartz flooring is all gone, now replaced with lush lawn grass, and sensible concrete wrapped around the pool itself. At one end, a truly enormous inflatable water slide can send you flying down from fifty feet in the air, just to land with a splash in the water.
How has she managed that height? Well, where there's ordinarily a roof, there is now only open sky, blue and picturesque with puffy white clouds lazily floating by. The sun is bright but never too hot, and incapable of burning anyone's skin. The only thing between the sky and the building are dozens of red, white and blue decorations, strung from the balconies to overhang the pool.
Don't worry if you weren't exactly prepared for a pool party! Julie, queen of not only parties but also wardrobes, has helpfully converted the warehouse part of the building for this very problem. Racks and racks of bathing suits and beach towels are available for use, with every conceivable style up for grabs. Trunks, one-pieces, string bikinis, banana hammocks, she's got it all! While many match the red, white and blue theme, all types of colors and patterns are present. Grab a towel from a stack, hop in one of the striped changing cabanas, then get to swimming. Don't forget your red, white or blue flip-flops and sunglasses!
Hungry? Well, Dean has you covered. On the lawn, Julie has provided him with a wet dream-inducing grill and every imaginable kind of meat to cook on it. Also in this section are tables and tables full of snacks, desserts and drinks, along with the full bar that is always present. The bartender, Steven, is always ready to make anything you could want. (He is dressed in what is best described as "Sexy Uncle Sam" -- in that it's a star-spangled wrestling singlet, a glittery red white and blue bow tie, an Uncle Sam hat and a small, fake white beard.) Plenty of picnic tables are present to eat at.
As the afternoon passes, the sky will gradually darken until it's black and clear, with a wide expanse of stars, the way Julie remembers seeing night from the empty prairies of Kansas. Between Dean and Julie, there is no shortage of fireworks; as proud Americans raised in places where there's little else to do, they are experts at blowing shit up in creative ways. The tables disappear and are replaced with blankets on the grass, meant to be laid on and shared. An incredible fireworks show rounds the night out, and only once the sky is calm again are people expected to leave.
Or pass out. Getting completely wasted is also an Independence Day tradition. ]

She laughs softly, giving it a second of thought. She can't come up with anything. ] We didn't have much in the way of titles. Not really our style.
[ But then she does have an idea, and releases his hand for a moment to present him with a quickly-manifested, tiny American flag on a stick. The kind of cheap thing that's bought in bulk for holidays, that they give to those who've just been naturalized. The cloth is stiff, keeping it perpetually on display, rather than draping like a real flag.
She gives it a jaunty little wave. ] The land of the free and the home of the brave, baby.

He winds up with a miniature stiff banner in his hand. It bears the same colours and emblems he's seen throughout the party. He turns it over, studying it, before laying it aside. It'll make its way to his domain somewhere—probably tucked near the books and other things she's given him. ]
We aren't part of the kingdom. But Kaer Morhen lies in the mountains of Kaedwen. Dynasty of the unicorn.
[ He's only telling her, really, because it makes him think of the unicorn she keeps as a pet. This becomes clear when he produces a small silk banner of gold stamped with a red and black unicorn. Maybe she can hang it over where the little creature sleeps. ]

She sets it to the side before she shifts, moves closer to him and lies on her side. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she sighs and lets her eyelids hang lower. Julie has immense control over her domain, but there's effort involved in large-scale reconstruction and direction of the details like she's done for today. It becomes somewhat draining after an entire day. ]
Makes it sound like y'all got a bunch of unicorns runnin' the show. Though, if Jaskier gave Duke a realistic personality, that makes sense. Pretty sure he thinks he runs this place.

[ Died out as all unique beings do. Duke does appear to believe he runs this place, though he suspects that aspect of his personality belongs to Jaskier. Fitting. It is also fitting, he supposes, that the wolf was made in both his image and disposition as a result of Jaskier, too. Jaskier's influence is a bit everywhere in a few people's domains—Red in Sam's, Duke in Julie's.
He lifts his arm so she can lay against him. With her is the only time he falls asleep in the Horizon, or at least remains long enough that he's here for what amounts as overnight. Normally he leaves quickly, as soon as the meeting or talk is finished. He hasn't got a reason to stay. But she tends to linger, so he ends up doing so, too. ]

[ There's sleep in her voice. This close, she can feel his heartbeat, lets it lull her closer to slumber. Her preference is to sleep in the Horizon -- she generally only sleeps in the real world when he's with her there. She isn't opposed to it, has slept there during events so disruptive that she couldn't concentrate enough to get to the Horizon, but she sleeps deeper, better in here.
She always feels better in the Horizon. Noticeably so, in a very real, physical way. It's something she has only realized when she's been forced to stay out for several days at a time, but subconsciously, she can tell between a day when she's been here and when she hasn't. ]

[ Or so they say. Not him, in other words. Stuffed ones don't count. For the best, anyhow. What would he do with a unicorn? Most things that find him wind up dead, either by his hand or someone else's.
He tucks one arm behind his head, not quite ready to sleep as she is, but content to lay here while he listens to her breathing even out. The party continues outside; he knows people will slowly drift away, too, as the night wears on.
No one needs him urgently in Cadens tonight, though, so. He'll be here until she wakes. ]

[ It's half-mumbled as she dozes off, her cheek pressed to his chest. As the people outside filter out, some of the more extravagant features of the party will fade away too, without Julie keeping them in place. The false sky, the huge waterslide, the pool and the grass and the trees. Steven will clean up the leftover food and drinks, the cups and plates. In the morning, she can set everything back to its proper state with a few pointed thoughts. ]
