[ Something doesn't sit right in the Force. It doesn't help that Anakin can't place what it is or why, but it makes him more restless than usual. His usual routine doesn't fulfill him like it normally does, feeling pent-up energy that hasn't reared its head since being in the midst of the Clone War.
Instead of bothering his usual (and not wanting to torture Mat with another training session so soon) he wanders the castle in search of one of their newer arrivals. The red hair is easy to spot, at least.
Anakin strides up, leaning against a nearby wall, his arms crossed casually in front of himself. ]
[ Cal's still trying to find a sense of routine. He often meditates, now that he can do so with more ease — thought, admittedly, sometimes it gets away from him. Not as bad as before, but enough that concerns him. With everything going on, it's not surprising, he supposes.
He doesn't have any one destination in mind as he walks through the castle, though his mind wanders as much as he himself. He's taken by surprise when Anakin approaches, mouth opening to respond to his question, though he doesn't get the chance to. ]
[ Finding a routine is hard, especially when none of the usual activities are available or just.. different. So much about Thorne is unlike home it had left him reeling his first week, not knowing where he'd fit into life here with pretty endless freedom.
He imagines it's pretty much the same for everyone else, which is why Cal seems like the perfect candidate. That and he'd pretty much promised they'd spar at some point.
Anakin leads him through the castle down to the training grounds, giving a wave to the groundskeeper as he goes by. ]
[ Cal follows, not sure where they're going until they're there. He gives a small and shy nod to the groundskeeper as well, not that he knows him or anything, but he likes to be polite going into someone else's workspace, so to speak. The question catches him off guard. ]
A sword?
[ UMMM ]
No. [ Different from using a lightsaber. He's having a hard time even picturing himself with a sword, but the thought occurs to him yet again that he doesn't have his lightsaber and it's. Frustrating. ] Can't say I have.
[ Anakin nods, though it's mostly to himself as he brushes his fingers against a rack of available training weapons. Not familiar with a sword, so maybe something that's got a little more balance throughout.. at least to start. ]
That's fine, we all have to start somewhere.
[ He picks out two quarterstaves, stepping back up to Cal, offering him one. ]
You look like you know your way around some sort of weapon. We'll start here. [ He steps into a practice ring, giving Cal a pat on the shoulder as he moves past. ]
[ Cal did say he'd like to spar at some point, and given his situation, sooner rather than later is probably best. He regards the quarterstaff for a moment, maybe feeling the slight tingle of nerves, before he nods his head resolutely and takes it. ]
Right.
[ A pat on the shoulder, stepping into a practice ring, and he already feels an almost overwhelming sense of familiarity overcome him. He tries not to get too lost in it though, remembering that he's in unfamiliar and still possibly dangerous territory. It's hard not to think and act like a Jedi when it comes to battle, or sparring. After all that time on Bracca, when he ignited his lightsaber for the first time in years, there were some old habits that came to him as natural as he breathed.
He knows his way around quarterstaves, at least, testing his grip and the weight of it, trying to get familiar again. Right, this should be fine. ]
[ Anakin gives the quarterstaff a few practice twirls before taking his stance. He waits for Cal to get accustomed to the weight of it and get his own starting position. It's certainly familiar, but he brushes it off as a coincidence. With a wolfish grin, Anakin rushes toward Cal for an overhead attack. ]
So, are you settling in okay?
[ When Cal's staff meets his, he swings again and puts a bit more force behind it, intent on driving him backward. ]
[ Cal waits, always in a position ready to defend, so it's not unwelcome when Anakin makes the first move. Though, he's mildly taken aback by the other's aggressiveness. He raises his staff to block Anakin's, digging his feet into the ground to hold himself steady. ]
Uh—[ oh crap, give him a moment. Cal stumbles back a step at the force behind Anakin's next attack, but this time he prepares himself by pushing forward with his staff, still on the defense but hoping not to get caught in a series of knock backs. ]—I think so? Still kind of overwhelmed.
[ Grinning when his attacks are kept at bay, he doesn't give Cal the opportunity to push forward. Is he being a little aggressive? Absolutely, but it's a good way for him to see what he's working with before moving on to sword practice. ]
Yeah, that'll wear off eventually. Have you been to the Horizon, yet?
[ By now, he realizes he won't get anywhere with his more passive style, unable to push forward against Anakin's aggressive moves. Okay, that's fine. ]
Yeah—
[ It's instinctive for him to want to use The Force — to push his opponent back to give himself a moment of reprieve, but not only has he not fully been able to access his connection, but he's still wary about doing any of that here. Instead, he utilizes his skill at being quick on his feet, parrying to the side, so he can get a good horizontal swing in, hopefully. ]
[ Cal is definitely more light-footed than he'd anticipated, quarterstaff striking in the space that was just occupied. He just barely manages to block the incoming strike, shoving back against it. ]
First time is always weird. Makes you feel like you don't really know yourself.
[ Anakin spins off to the side, kicking out at Cal to sweep his legs. ]

Cal, you busy? Great, come with me.
