"Yes," she nods at the question. "That's what I'm banking on. Do you know a Dr. Eras Thawne?" hope tinges at the edges of her voice. If she can complete these deliveries, something good will come of it, she's certain. And she's a woman of her word, she made a promise, and she intends to keep it.

"Oh yeah, that's the Master of Biology. I can take you to the right office, if you like, it's not that far."

At least by Nadine's standards. Funny how quickly walking everywhere has become so normal. But taking Inej is a lot easier than trying to direct her, the academy is hard to navigate even for the students who attend daily.

“That would be wonderful,” she beams brightly at the older woman. She’s hardly stepped foot in any of the academies here, save their libraries. She wouldn’t have the faintest how to navigate anyplace else.

"Sure, it's no problem." Deliveries have all been done for the day, Nadine can take the time to take Inej. What else would she be doing, but settling in either at the clinic or at home, to mix more potions and elixirs?

She sets off down the street, the route practically automatic at this point.

"The academy can be confusing, it's huge and there's so many different sections and floors. It took me weeks to get oriented. I still sometimes get confused if there's a demonstration in a hall I haven't been to yet."

“I suppose that is the way of universities,” she muses, following easily in step with the other woman.

The city streets of Cadens are more intimately familiar to her than some of the buildings inside’s for Inej. She still routinely wanders, refusing to loose the mental map of it for lack of use. If they’re to be here for a long time, she wants Cadens to be as familiar to her as Ketterdam someday. “But it’s lucky for me to have you to show me instead.” She beams brightly at Nadine.

"Especially here. Cadens takes its universities really seriously."

And unlike the colleges Nadine is used to, it's one single massive building.

"But for good reason. I only have experience with the one, but it's a really good academy. It's intense, a lot of students don't make it through the first year, but it's a really good education. A lot of it's hands on."

She's happy to talk about the college in general as they walk, turning in to that district where most of the big schools are.

"I should get more acquainted with them," it just hadn't been her focus when she first arrived in Cadens and things just keep... piling higher on her list of priorities.

Her eyebrows arched slightly at that, "Really? I had no idea it was so competitive." She supposes it makes sense, though. She follows her down street into the academic district.

[nadine_he_loves]

"It's not even the competitiveness, really. The coursework and classes are just really hard and there's so many of them and it's just too much for some people. They get overwhelmed and can't keep up. I had to quit a job, the only reason I can keep up with the clinic is that I own it. It's open on my schedule."

Otherwise...no, Nadine couldn't work and learn to be a doctor at the same time. The academy is too demanding and the schedule not terribly forgiving. But as she'd said, it's worth it. She's getting a hell of an education, equal to any Ivy League school back home.

"Plus you get the students who didn't expect it to be so...messy. Those ones take off pretty quick once the practice cadavers and bone saws come out."

"I don't know how you do it," she shakes her head. She's never had aims at something so academic. Actually, she never really had a chance to come to any kind of conclusion. Before she was stolen, it was easy to assume her life would always lend itself to performance. The Menagerie and The Dregs both put her life into even further different trajectories and now? Here, with the freedom to live more or less in whatever best way she deems necessary or good? She just hasn't branched out very much. She might have some things on the horizon after this courier mission she's set out on is complete, though.

She can't help the stray thought of a boy back at the Inn who certainly could not go into such a career. "I imagine that weeds out the weak stomachs if nothing else," she isn't sure how she'd feel about studying an actual corpse.
