What: it's the time of year and with all these new faces as well as with everything going on, sam thinks it's time for another all summoned not!thanksgiving
Where: sam's horizon

THE SETUP

As per Sam's invitation, come dinner time, his horizon is going to be full fall aesthetic. The trees will have changed, there will be a slight chill in the air (no matter how it's usually hotter than this in Louisiana in November), and everything will be decorated in prime Fall Decorations - so many pumpkins, so many candles, so much Hallmark Card Thanksgiving, minus any weird pilgrim/puritan bs. Inside the house will be a kind of organized chaos - tables and ingredients and food everywhere. Because while Sam could magic the whole meal together, he's much more about putting in the work, so this not!thanksgiving is old school. If you show up early, you will be assigned a job, and Sam can tell if you cheat and just Horizon something together.

Outside in the front lawn area is a large, long dining room table. Come dinner, it will be a picture-perfect image of a Thanksgiving Meal. Everything you could want and then more will be set out, and there will be a setting for everyone, no matter how many people show up. There's no seating arrangement, so find a place and take a seat, chat it up with whoever is to your right, left, or sitting across from you. The only magic that Sam is going to allow at this point is the fact that the table will always be the perfect size - whether that is smaller or larger. There is plenty of booze, plenty of food, and more than enough desserts, and Sam is really just looking for a casual, nice time of it.

Afterwards, there will be plenty of opportunities for more people to help - just imagine the dishes, y'all. But even then Sam will be playing host, making sure everyone has what they need, even if what they need is an Adirondack chair by a fire pit and a blanket to pass the hell out. Either way, his entire Horizon is open, save for the one room upstairs that is always locked.

- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, meet some people, put up a TL of your own!

- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you chaos too many issues. :)

- this is open to any and all Summoned, no matter loyalties or factions. Sam is going to be going overboard to be welcoming, especially to new faces. Even if your character didn't see the big invitation, feel free to have them invited by word of mouth.

( he listens as someone approaches him, getting closer and closer until they speak. and yes, he recognizes jesper's voice, his gait, how he stands just from the sounds he brings with him.

if he's surprised by the question, he makes sure his expression doesn't give it away.

( That's long. Months. Where's he been, to miss it? Although he does understand, it's not as if he tells Wanda all about his relationships either, it would be strange considering their connection. Still though. Gray eyes narrow at Matt, but in truth he can't see any reason why it should be a problem. He's a nice fellow. Smart. Interesting. But good enough for Wanda? Is anyone that? )

She's had a hard life, more so than most people here. She's tough but she has a soft heart.

( Jesper doubts he's saying anything that Matt doesn't already know if they've been dating for months, but he's reiterating it since it's important. Soft hearts make for good people, but the world can be rough on them. For someone young, he's quite jaded, but that's how all the Crows are. Teenagers in body, forty-year-olds in experience. )

You're a nice guy but she's family. So know that I can turn your entire body into paste with a single touch and everyone will think you've simply been sent home.

( he's honestly expecting this from people now that wanda's decided to not keep things so secret. he knows that there's a lot of people that care for her and he knows that he's an unknown factor.

so, he listens to jesper's warning and nods somberly. he doesn't doubt that jesper could turn him into dust but he is curious as to how.

he doesn't ask right now. )

I don't plan on doing anything that might cause you to do that.

I know a lot of people care for her.

( Jesper appreciates that Matt takes the threat well and not in stride, he can tell that he believes him, and he's not laughing it off. His youth can usually blind people to the danger he presents, and it sometimes amuses him, but not when he actually means it. It also seems Matt gets it isn't personal. It's just Wanda. )

She makes it really easy to care about her, which obviously you know. She doesn't see it herself, but it's true.

(Wanda's darkness could never put off someone like him, who lives comfortably with his own dark side every day. Having her accept it is probably the harder part, but Jesper's given her all the love and support he can. And hopefully more to come. They've been tied tight together since the moment they met.)

I think it's great, by the way, for her to find happiness with someone. It's just that even if her friends threaten you, they're the good guys, they wouldn't mean it.

(I mean it, being the unspoken threat still. He likes most of the other 'Avengers,' as they're called, but it's clear they're not the types to actually melt people who hurt their friends.)

She does and I hope that many people care about her because she deserves it.

( there is darkness in wanda and she knows it but matt's of the mind that everyone has that dark side and while she'd fallen into it once before, she'd pulled herself out.

that takes courage and strength that a lot of people have. she's stronger than him and that's absolutely unarguable. )

I'm not planning on hurting her and if I do, I'll be the first to line up for whatever you wanna do to me. I promise, I get it.

Good, I really do hope I don't have to kill you, you did me a real solid one time and I haven't forgotten it.

( Jesper will absolutely still kill him and probably only be a little regretful, because he prefers hurting bad people, but maybe it'll all work out instead. He's also a huge romantic and he's found love here in this strange world too. He knows how special it is when this is the only place. )

I'm a recovering gambling addict and when we met, I was about to relapse. You didn't mean to, but you did get me out of that situation.

( There is no reason for him to think Matt had any idea what was happening at the time, so it seems instead to him like a harmless meeting that nevertheless helped him. But it means he owes Matt a favor. Not more than he owes Wanda, but he repays his debts, emotional or physical. )

If it makes you feel better, I was much more inclined to melt Tony Stark for her, but everyone said I wasn't allowed to.

It does. I'm not Stark's biggest fan either. I know him — he's from the same place as I am.

( which means wanda's from the same place as he is but he hadn't known of her really. heard the name, perhaps, not not like stark and thor and the others. )

He could probably use a little melting to knock him down a few pegs.

( would it help? probably not. )

But, I'm — I'm not going to hurt her. I promise.

I tried to compromise on only melting his clothing, but I was told no.

( He thought that was a perfectly reasonable middle ground! Considering Jesper's helped Tony enough now that he owes him two favors, he managed to deal with his grudge well. It isn't really personal as he just knew that Wanda disliked him, seriously disliked him, and that set off his protective urge. He also does think the guy is an arrogant prick, but so is Jesper sometimes. )

He's lucky my friend Inej was very fond of the other version of him that was here. She asked me to help him.

( And Inej he can never say no to. He glances over at Matt and shrugs. )

Sometimes break ups happen, I'm not going to kill you for that, just don't be a prick about it if it happens. But I get the sense you know a good thing when you've got it. You've got one of those smart people jobs.

( Jesper is not an idiot, if he reached his full academic potential he probably could have had a smart person job too, but he likes being a criminal. Everyone picks their own path. )

( he doesn't want to break up with her and if it happens, if something does drive them apart, he knows not to be a terrible person about it. he's had break ups happens plenty of times so he knows he can handle it. )

She's fortunate to have a friend like you.

Has she given this version of her talk to someone you're with yet?

I owe her a lot. Where I come from, having abilities makes your life very difficult, so I hid mine. She helped me open up to using them here.

(Their first meeting at the peace summit had been significant for both of them, but seeing a magic Summoned so freely use theirs, the connection she had to hers, made him step a little closer to where he is now. He still keeps his gifts close to the chest with Cadens at large, but with the Summoned, he's open about it. And he has gotten so good at using them that he achieved corecloth.

From there, they became closer and closer, sharing a lot of their personal backgrounds, and now they're family. Jesper makes a face which he knows Matt can't see at the question.)

Oh Saints no, I don't tell her about my lovers. She's like my sister, it would be weird.

I can see her being that for someone.

( especially with what he knows about her powers and how she's struggled with them. he thinks that helping others is probably really good for her.

and thinking about it makes him smile. )

Right, weird. But, I bet if there's something to figure out, she'll do that and probably give this version of the talk to whoever you're with. She seems protective.

She probably would, but she'd have to do it many times over, and who has the time for that?

( Jesper gets around, to say the least. He likes people and people like him, that's always been the way of it. It would be amusing to see Wanda have to talk with every single one of them. Amusing and embarrassing, thus why he can't even imagine doing it. It would be particularly fun to watch her stare down Kaz. )

It's not easy though, loving people who only exist for you here. It adds a weight to everything, sometimes in a good way, it makes all of this special, and every day becomes easier to live when you have people to live for. But it also means this place is easy to lose, or people disappear and you'll never have the certainty of seeing them again.

( Jesper thinks sometimes about what he will possibly do if Mat disappears. It's a terrifying consideration. Even if he loses Kaz and Inej, and that would be terrible considering what they're building here, he does know that they'd be home, and there is a version of him there with them. But all his friends here, like Wanda, they could be gone in a flash.)

But that's all the more reason to live for today, yeah? So you and Wanda are doing the right thing. Just going for it.

(Wanda's happiness is very important to him, but she's also been through so much. And there will be that concern that has nothing to do with whether Matt is a good guy or not, because he can disappear, just like they all can. And that's another loss for her to survive. But Wanda's experienced loss and knows what she can take, he can't protect her from her own heart, nor would he want to.

He laughs and grins mischievously, not that Matt can see it.)

I don't discriminate. The Horizon gives you all kinds of options.

(That's in terms of people you can snatch up or ways to keep it fun. He is utterly shameless, but that is good in terms of the lovers he's managed to catch. Because they all know the situation, he is very honest and kind. He's young and hot and that's always kept him fed.)

They're good sorts though. I'd consider them all my friends too.

(Something Matt would understand, being friends with Wanda first.)

I almost did the monogamy thing back home, right before coming here. Not sure it's for me, honestly, but I was willing to give it a go for someone special.

I'll admit, I have a little reputation back where home about being...I don't know what they call it these days — being friendly?

( and he had gone out with a lot of people, enjoyed himself, did what he wanted to do. but, he knows that he had the ability to find and be with someone special. )

Sometimes, it just takes one person to find you and make you change your mind.

I think mostly what people say is I get around. It's a good summary. You don't really give off that energy, but not everyone is as blatant as I am. And you're very handsome.

( Jesper is sure some people have referred to his tendency to sleep around in a negative way, but he hasn't heard it, and he doesn't care. He's in perfect confidence about himself and what works for him. He doesn't jump right to being suspicious of Matt being a player when it comes to Wanda, because he himself just admitted he's the same, but for the right person, yeah.

Jesper has his heart and intentions on his sleeve, he is very blatant. He doesn't know anyone as shameless as he is. But it does make him look at Matt curiously. Yeah, he can see it though. Maybe they all go after him. )

He is a good lad, Wylan, that's his name. ( Not was, since he's alive, just not here.) Red-gold hair, eyes a shade of blue I've never seen the equal of, sweet and soft-spoken but with steel in his spine when it counts. It was definitely worth a try.

( There is wistfulness in his tone, obviously, not that he misses him still, really, but he does have fond memories.)

That's why it's good to take advantage while you can here. Never know what will happen tomorrow.

( matt supposes one good thing is that, if he were to leave or if wanda were to leave, they might be able to find each other back home. they were from the same place and the same time, it seemed, so there was a chance.

not that he wants that to happen. he doesn't think staying in abraxas is for him but — she and a lot of other people make it easier. the people make it easier. )

What if he ever showed up here? Your friend, Wylan, I mean. Would you be able to handle it?

I think it'd be a question of both of us handling it. Monogamy just isn't a possibility for me here. I've got too many people I care for.

( Jesper was in a period of singleness when he met Wylan, and while he hooked up with people for fun sometimes, it was never serious. So when Wylan came around and they connected so well, it seemed easy to try the relationship out for real. But since coming here Jesper's grown close to people. He doesn't see love as limited to one person, not in his heart. He couldn't give up any of them, even for Wylan.)

My Horizon for a time was half-his. I made his house here. I was supposed to move in with him just before, so.

( So things were legitimately serious between the two of them. They were moving fast, but it felt right.)

But over time I've remade it. After half a year, it seems like you're holding onto nothing real. My new Horizon was partially inspired by Wanda. I really liked her cabin.

( So Jesper ended up pulling a whole bunch of inspiration and details from the people he met here. His new domain reflected more on his current life, not on his past.)

She does have a nice cabin.

( even if matt had caught the worst side of it when he'd come looking for her after being an ass. that hadn't been her fault, of course, just a result of what she'd built and what she'd created for herself.

there was no way he could replicate anything like that in his own horizon but getting caught in it as a blind man? not fun. )

One of her birds took a liking to me when I was there recently. Don't think that means I'm going to create any of my own though. Wanda created a dog for me awhile ago. So I wouldn't be lonely.

It's really interesting when people make creatures in there. They seem so real. One of my friends Mat has a creature in his that reacts like a real animal, I'm not entirely certain how it all works.

( Jesper doesn't have one of his own. He has no idea what he would want to make. He doesn't have a strong attachment to any animal so it's not as if he's creating something he left behind. He likes interacting with them in other people's domains, it's all very interesting, but it's hard to tell if any of it is real or not. As real as anything on the Horizon, maybe.)

Do you have a domain? I've gone to a whole lot of them, but not all of them.

( Jesper sometimes purposely wanders around, leaves his own place and goes on a walk. There are a few he visits more frequently than others, but there are new ones that show up every few months and he's intrigued.)

Yeah, I've heard about people having animals and just — completely full places. I'm still working on that.

( matt laughs a bit because his horizon was always going to be a work in progress. he wasn't magical and, add into that his blindness, and he wasn't sure it would ever look exactly right but he was trying. )

I've got...something. It's not much. I've managed to make some rooftops from New York and my apartment and office. Not sure if that counts as a domain.

Julie has actual people in hers, although not with personalities or seem to engage with people in a real way. Maybe I should get some birds for the cabin like Wanda.

( Jesper wouldn't mind a pet even if it is a psychic pet that only exists there. He has no strong attachment to birds but songbirds would be nice. There are some aspects of growing up on a farm that wasn't terrible. Bird watching was one of them. If he ends up making a little farm in his backyard though he'll know he's gone too far.

He low key does wonder how it all works with Matt's blindness, but it would be impolite to ask.)

I'm pretty sure as long as you have anything even if it's one chair, it's a domain. Maybe I'll have to swing by, I'd like to see what rooftops of New York are like. I'm pretty good at running over them in Ketterdam.
