[ OPEN ] turkey-time and all that follows.

What: it's the time of year and with all these new faces as well as with everything going on, sam thinks it's time for another all summoned not!thanksgiving
Where: sam's horizon
When: end of November/beginning of December

THE SETUP

As per Sam's invitation, come dinner time, his horizon is going to be full fall aesthetic. The trees will have changed, there will be a slight chill in the air (no matter how it's usually hotter than this in Louisiana in November), and everything will be decorated in prime Fall Decorations - so many pumpkins, so many candles, so much Hallmark Card Thanksgiving, minus any weird pilgrim/puritan bs. Inside the house will be a kind of organized chaos - tables and ingredients and food everywhere. Because while Sam could magic the whole meal together, he's much more about putting in the work, so this not!thanksgiving is old school. If you show up early, you will be assigned a job, and Sam can tell if you cheat and just Horizon something together.

Outside in the front lawn area is a large, long dining room table. Come dinner, it will be a picture-perfect image of a Thanksgiving Meal. Everything you could want and then more will be set out, and there will be a setting for everyone, no matter how many people show up. There's no seating arrangement, so find a place and take a seat, chat it up with whoever is to your right, left, or sitting across from you. The only magic that Sam is going to allow at this point is the fact that the table will always be the perfect size - whether that is smaller or larger. There is plenty of booze, plenty of food, and more than enough desserts, and Sam is really just looking for a casual, nice time of it.

Afterwards, there will be plenty of opportunities for more people to help - just imagine the dishes, y'all. But even then Sam will be playing host, making sure everyone has what they need, even if what they need is an Adirondack chair by a fire pit and a blanket to pass the hell out. Either way, his entire Horizon is open, save for the one room upstairs that is always locked.

- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, meet some people, put up a TL of your own!

- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you chaos too many issues. :)

- this is open to any and all Summoned, no matter loyalties or factions. Sam is going to be going overboard to be welcoming, especially to new faces. Even if your character didn't see the big invitation, feel free to have them invited by word of mouth.

I don't think she's mentioned you to me before. But then again, there's a lot of people here that consider her a friend.

Wanda's a friendly person. [ Even if the Wanda she's encountered here had changed much form the days Natasha knew her. But still, there's fond affectionate evident in her tone at the statement. She releases his hand, tucking her own into her back pockets as she tips her head to the side. ]

And she might not have had a chance to mention me. I've only been here a few days now. We happened to bump into each other in Nocwich and before that... well. It had been a long time since we'd seen one another. [ Even if that time difference was different for both of them. ]

And no, it's all been complimentary. Although I'm not sure I was supposed to give that away.

You probably weren't because now I'm going to hold it against her.

( and make sure she knows that matt knows that she'd been talking nice about him. he wouldn't be that bad but he'd definitely mention it. )

I thought so — that you were new, that is. I think she'd have mentioned you if you were here before. You spent time in New York prior to all this?

( just a guess since she knows wanda and he knows wanda had been there with the avengers. )

[ Her lips quirk faintly at that and her gaze flits away to where she'd last seen Wanda, although her friend had slipped away by now. Hopefully she would forgive her for spilling her secrets. It was for her own good. Probably. ]

I tend to be a little mobile than that, when I can manage it. Wanda and I did a lot of travelling. [ Which is a very polite way of saying they were always staying three steps ahead of those seeking to catch them and drag them back to answer to the Accords. Something none of them had any intention of letting happen.

Of course, then the Snap had happened and they'd all had much bigger things to worry about. ]

Is that where you're from? New York? [ So he seemed familiar with earth, at least. ]

Born and raised and never left until...now. Though, this wasn't really my choice. Sure it wasn't yours either.

( not that it's been bad, just unexpected. it took some adjustment to get used to his new normal. )

I've found that I was apparently in New York same time as Wanda was. I recognize the names of some of her friends from local news stories.

Not really, but I'm not complaining all that much now that I'm here. I'm probably long overdue for a vacation.

[ Her tone is dry, because it's easier to brush off the heavier direction that could go in with sarcasm instead. She's an expert at healthy coping mechanisms.

But she arches an eyebrow, even more intrigued now. ] So you're from our New York? I should probably offer you my sympathies, in that case. It's had a rough couple of years. But Wanda does have a few high profile friends. They're pretty hard to miss.

[ But she's totally not volunteering any personal information there. Just out of curiosity for how much he knows. ]

Yeah, I think we existed in the same New York. I got my office building cheap because it was damaged during some of her friends...adventures.

( which was both good and bad. anything cheap with his income was a good thing but he hadn't really liked seeing new york in ruins like it was. )

I didn't know anyone personally but I knew of them. Hard not to.

[ It's asked in curiosity because Wanda hadn't actually told her much about Matt other than he was blind and he existed, really. ]

Yeah, they do sort of make a splash whenever they do anything, don't they? Subtlety is not their strong suit. [ She's pretty sure Tony's allergic to subtlety, actually, and Steve... well at least he stopped wearing a flag-colored suit. ]

Have you and Wanda spoken of... home?

Yeah. It was damaged during the first...invasion? I guess that's what they called it. So, me and my partner got it on the cheap.

( and thankfully the damage hadn't been that bad. it wasn't going to fall down around their ears. )

Some. Not a lot. She's told me what she's gone through and I've told her that I'm a boring lawyer who gets paid in muffins.

( they were good muffins, though. )

The Chitauri. [ Oh, she's unlikely to forget that particular invasion. Ever. ] I think we're lucky there were any buildings left standing in the aftermath of that.

[ As terrible as it had been... it could have been so much worse.

Although his comment about his profession gets a surprised laugh from her as she gives him a once-over again. ] Well, that's a new one. I didn't realize muffins counted as currency now. I'll have to remember that one.

[ She really should let it go there. But... ] I wouldn't have taken you for the 'boring lawyer' type.

My clientele can't always pay me with money but that doesn't mean I don't want to help them. So, sometimes I get muffins or pies or IOUs or meat from a butcher shop.

( he shrugs. )

( he's curious now. )

[ And also probably a terrible way to run a business. But then again, maybe that depends on what your aim is. It's clear his has nothing do with money.

But she chuckles at his question, shifting to perch on the arm of a nearby chair, relaxing comfortably. ]

I'm still trying to figure that out. [ A long pause, before she asks, ] So how long did you know I was waiting to interrupt you?

Not too long. You're surprisingly quiet. But lose one sense and the others —

( he shrugs a shoulder. his senses were a little more juiced than most people who'd lose their eyesight, of course, but even if that hadn't happened, he still thinks he'd be hearing a little more sharply than most.

matt's definitely not going to talk about hearing heartbeats. )

And most people who know Wanda do find their way to me eventually to make sure I'm not bad news.

[ Oh, she's quite sure his other senses work twice as hard to make up for the missing sight, but even then he was amazingly perceptive, even beyond what she'd expect. Maybe she would take Wanda up on her dare next time and actively try to sneak up on him. She wondered if she'd manage it - or if not, how close she could get?

Still, she lets it go for the moment, chuckling at his answer. ]

Wanda does tend to incite that protectiveness in those who care about her, yes. And she is very easy to care for. Just how many shovel talks have you been subjected to today?

Today? Just one so far but it was a very intense one.

( he looks in jesper's direction, hearing his voice and laughs to himself. not at the shovel talk, though, because he's taking that seriously but just how this is all playing out.

he knew it was bound to happen though. )

I wasn't sure if you were going to be number two. I think other people have figured it out but I haven't gotten the 'hurt her and you'll never be heard from again' talk from them.

[ She follows the direction of how he turns his head, wondering who it had been - especially when she doesn't recognize any of the faces in that direction. Likely a friend from here, then, rather than back home.

Although his words get a wry chuckle and there's definitely a smile in her voice when she responds, although he can interpret that how he likes. Along with the words she offers him - despite them being offered in an otherwise innocuous and cheerful tone. ]

Oh, no. I'll pass on the shovel talk. I rarely bother giving warnings first.

I think that might be more terrifying than the actual talk.

( not that he sounds afraid. if anything, he sounds amused but he does take the statement to heart and he'll remember it. )

I'm sure plenty of people have underestimated you that way. I won't.

( he knows better. )

[ His words have her chuckling in amusement, warmth creeping back in at the sound of his own amusement. She doesn't take it as him dismissing her, however, just brushes a hand against his shoulder. ]

That will be a refreshing change. [ He's not wrong. ] But for what it's worth, I think you're good for her. So you're fairly safe if you just keep doing whatever it is you're doing. She smiles when she says your name. That means a lot.

She does?

( he's not surprised because he knows that she does smile. it's more...that she smiles when she talks about him to other people. her smile isn't one that he's seen besides images in his mind and he's just —

very grateful that he could be that for her. be someone that makes her smile. he doesn't smile but it's a close thing. )

I'm trying. She deserves it.

She does.

[ It's both an agreement and an answer to his inquiry.

Natasha's just grateful that Wanda's found someone here who can give that to her, especially when it sounds like everything else back home had fallen apart in the worst way possible. ]

I probably wasn't supposed to tell you that either, but I figured someone should tell you you're doing a good job before anyone else shows up to threaten you. [ Is that laughter in her voice? Maybe. ]

Don't worry, your secret's safe with me.

( he taps a finger to his lips to illustrate that and then smiles. )

There's a few people that I think might end up finding their way to me at some point. For threats and assertions of aggression if I do anything to hurt her.

( and he has no plans to do that. )

I think Wanda would be first in line though.

[ That just makes her grin. ]
