[ OPEN ] turkey-time and all that follows.
What: it's the time of year and with all these new faces as well as with everything going on, sam thinks it's time for another all summoned not!thanksgiving
Where: sam's horizon
When: end of November/beginning of December
Warnings: will update as necessary.
THE SETUP
As per Sam's invitation, come dinner time, his horizon is going to be full fall aesthetic. The trees will have changed, there will be a slight chill in the air (no matter how it's usually hotter than this in Louisiana in November), and everything will be decorated in prime Fall Decorations - so many pumpkins, so many candles, so much Hallmark Card Thanksgiving, minus any weird pilgrim/puritan bs. Inside the house will be a kind of organized chaos - tables and ingredients and food everywhere. Because while Sam could magic the whole meal together, he's much more about putting in the work, so this not!thanksgiving is old school. If you show up early, you will be assigned a job, and Sam can tell if you cheat and just Horizon something together.
Outside in the front lawn area is a large, long dining room table. Come dinner, it will be a picture-perfect image of a Thanksgiving Meal. Everything you could want and then more will be set out, and there will be a setting for everyone, no matter how many people show up. There's no seating arrangement, so find a place and take a seat, chat it up with whoever is to your right, left, or sitting across from you. The only magic that Sam is going to allow at this point is the fact that the table will always be the perfect size - whether that is smaller or larger. There is plenty of booze, plenty of food, and more than enough desserts, and Sam is really just looking for a casual, nice time of it.
Afterwards, there will be plenty of opportunities for more people to help - just imagine the dishes, y'all. But even then Sam will be playing host, making sure everyone has what they need, even if what they need is an Adirondack chair by a fire pit and a blanket to pass the hell out. Either way, his entire Horizon is open, save for the one room upstairs that is always locked. OOC INFO
- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, meet some people, put up a TL of your own!
- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you chaos too many issues. :)
- this is open to any and all Summoned, no matter loyalties or factions. Sam is going to be going overboard to be welcoming, especially to new faces. Even if your character didn't see the big invitation, feel free to have them invited by word of mouth.
- any questions? message me at disarmingly

It's your house. [ She doesn't say it with any kind of venom, more a sense of humor. She won't stop him from taking a seat in his own yard. ] Good dinner. I wasn't sure how many people were still stayin' out of the Horizon.
[ She takes a long sip of her drink. She's had several glasses of wine and this is her second mug of the punch, so she's fuzzy and sleepy inside. ]

Only kind of. [ whether he means that to be because he's opened the house up to everyone else stuck in this situation, or if it's because even back home it's not really his - so much as it's his and his sister's - sam doesn't bother explaining.
instead, he takes a long drink from his cup and lets his eyes linger on the fire in front of them before giving a nod. ] I wasn't either, after everything. I'm glad people did. [ a beat, and then he looks back over to her again, giving her a small smile. ] I'm glad you did.

She snorts a little, shaking her head as she takes a sip from her glass. ] And this is with a month to decompress. Try havin' a party a week after that shit. Months of plannin'.
[ Her pettiness aside, she understood why people would skip her party. She's just stubborn enough to refuse to call it off a week ahead of time. It's a little ridiculous now, she thinks, but she gets it. But Julie in particular can't stay away from the Horizon for long. She begins to feel anxious and sick after a few days, and yes, she is ignoring that giant red flag. ]
You know me. I don't skip a party without a reason.

now it's sam's turn to...not snort, exactly, but huff out a kind of laugh. he holds up his glass to her when he replies - a kind of cheers. ] If anyone was going to be the first, it had to be you. None of us would be back if you didn't start it all off.
And it was a hell of a party, anyway. Their loss.
[ because sam did go, though not for long - he wouldn't have left julie hanging like that. he knows just how much she cares about her parties, how much effort she spends on it. ]

She hasn't even told the whole truth to any of them. After all these months, she's tired. ]
I don't know what to do next year. Halloween is s'posed to be the best day of the year, and now it gets fucked up every time by zombies and shit. What the fuck do I do with that? [ She fiddles with the cracked fang that hangs from her necklace. ] Don't say Christmas. It ain't the same and you know it.

[ but he does know that she's tired, that he can see before him even here. and whether or not he knows the details of why, or how, he knows that it's been chipping away at her, and he can't quite put his finger on why.
for right now, though, she does seem better than she has been. he's not entirely sure how much that means, given everything, but it's all he can really work with.
he thinks for a moment, head tilting back and forth before he takes another sip from his drink. ] What about the beginning of the month? Like a 'kick-off to October' kind of thing? The first round of zombies didn't show up till near the end of the month, right?

This connection, to the Horizon, to the Singularity, it's taking a toll on her. Mentally, of course, but physically as well. Outside in the real world, she feels nausea and longing, and inside the Horizon, she is inundated with noise and color. Sleep becomes harder and harder by the day. She can only keep going because she forces herself to stay occupied.
Julie scoffs loudly as she takes a drink. ] That ain't Halloween. It's like havin' Christmas a month early. Loses all the magic if you do it far apart from the actual day.
[ And the truth is that she doesn't want to give up her favorite holiday. Of course she could change the time, make it into its own thing, apart from what she knows. There's certainly enough people who don't even know what Halloween is, here in Abraxas.
But she's lost everything, multiple times. She wants this one thing to hold on to, this one final relic of her dead, empty world. Why does Abraxas seem so determined to take this from her too? ]
Maybe next year it'll just be the zombies. Not the Horizon too.
