INTRO LOG #2
Intro Log #2
It has been two months now since the initial group of summonings first took place. Castle Thorne, or at least the part above ground, is buzzing with a vibrant air of hope following the 'success' at the Singularity. Eager smiles and excited chattering are to be found in nearly every corner of the castle and surrounding town. The honored guests may find grateful looks turned their way more often than not. A new and brighter day seems to be dawning on the kingdom.
In the dungeons it's a different story entirely. The mood is somber and uneasy. The prisoner taken for trial has yet to return, and no word has come regarding her or her fate. There has been no mention of any further trials as of yet and guards seem to have little patience for unruly behavior or even conversation. Some seem to not even look at or acknowledge the prisoners at all.
[ Feel free to continue threads from the TDM here or start your own! As cell and room assignments will be short-lived due to this month's event, you're free to assume whichever cellmates and roommates you like instead of officially signing up as long as there are ICly no more than four people in a cell or room at once. ]

[ Nero sticks his finger in his ear, scratching the inside. He actually has to pause as he tries to remember the legend about the moon's origins. His eyes roll comically up into his head, before he lets out a sigh. ]
Ah... I can't remember the full legend. I just remember the bit about it being made of stars' blood. [ He gives a pathetic shrug. ]
I suppose that just what happens when you live for too long.
[ Says someone who looks like he's in his mid-twenties. ]
You start to forget the stories that people told you in the past... but I guess so long as you remember the most important bits... it is all that matters, right?

[Not completely impossible, perhaps, but certainly uncommon. Although in fairness, the worlds that Emet-Selch knows best are fairly closely entwined, and he can't imagine that is terribly likely to be the case anywhere else.
Interestingly, perhaps, he doesn't so much as bat an eye at the implication that Nero is older - possibly significantly older than he seems to be.]
Such things do tend to fade over the years. To drift away until they are naught more than flickering shadows, caught against the light.
[He shrugs, then, as if to say 'but what can you do'.]
Still, to remember the story at all is better than nothing.

What a rare feeling. He supposes that is what he gets hanging around humans for so long. Of course, can he call it hanging out if he's murdering them? Squinting, he frowns deep as he tries to decide if it counts or not.
His head straightens as he looks carefully at the man once he finishes speaking. He drops his arms down to his side, at first, before he carefully lifts one hand slowly up. ]
Yeah, neat. [ The elf's tone a little dismissive despite this is a topic that he himself brought up. He attempts to slap his hand on the man's forehead with the only explanation being an abrupt question that follows: ] Hey, what is this?
no subject
But that is neither here nor there. It exists, yes, but now that it has been briefly brought to the light, it fades back into the darkness once again, until he is simply as he had been prior to that glimpse of something truly ancient.
...Only to be replaced by confusion and then surprise as he finds himself being very literally smacked in the face - though he doesn't exactly stagger back, he does flinch a bit and recoil a pace or two. Still, that may well be enough for Nero to get an approximate sense for what it feels like under his hand - rather than feeling soft it's hard, like a bit of a nail, or a very strange sort of horn.]
It's referred to as a 'third eye' - and I would appreciate it if you would not attempt to hit it again.

[ Nero pulls his hand back so that he can look at it. He rubs his thumb against the inside of his palm, like he's trying to remember what the feel of the "third eye" actually was like. Honestly, he thought that it would be a lot squishier than what it actually is. His fingers flex a few times as he makes a soft humming sound. ]
Third eye, huh? [ He waves his hand in front of it. ] Okay. I won't hit it, again. But what can it see?
no subject
[Enough so that most people of his world would not be particularly unused to the description for all that the 'eye' in question bears little resemblance to the more traditional pair. Still, given that he sees no reason to mistrust Nero's promise to not hit it again, he sees no reason to not explain further.
(It does not, however, appear to react in any way to having Nero's hand waved in front of it.)]
However it does not 'see' the way your eyes might. Or even my own, for that matter. Instead, it is a sensory organ that serves to improve one's perception of where objects are in relationship to one another.
no subject
[ He drops his hand down as his face becomes confused by that explanation. His eyes roll up into his head before he fixes his stare back on the man's face. ]
So, it tracks things?
no subject
[It is, admittedly, not wrong to say that it tracks things. But no more than one's natural eyes might also do so, albeit in a different manner.]
Think of it this way. When you throw something, you are able to track its passage, yes? So it is with this. It merely offers information that a normal pair of eyes would not.
no subject
Nero can't say that he understands, at all. Could it be like tracking how a someone is going to hit him? No, that can't be right. If that was the case, wouldn't he have moved out of the way rather than get smacked in the forehead? Wait, would Nero have moved out of the way if someone wanted to smack him on the forehead? No, he'd just let it happen, too.
Well. Shit. ]
Anyway, I'm Nero. [ He gives up on understanding. If it becomes relevant later, he'll figure it out. Until then, it's just a neat button on his new pal's forehead; one that he definitely will not hit again. Definitely not. Maybe lick. What does it taste like? An actual eye?
Ah, dear, his thoughts are running. Again. ]
no subject
Had definitely not been expecting to be smacked in the forehead, that's for sure.]
Emet-Selch.
[There's a polite nod to go with the words, brief though they are. Enough to suggest that he's not entirely put out by having been smacking in the face, at least.]
no subject
[ His thoughts keep on spinning. ]
You don't seem like the kinky sort, but ever have someone lick your eye? Your third one, I mean. [ It's good to be specific in this arena since the man has a few eyes to choose from. Nero attempts to be extra helpful by slapping his own forehead a few times -- the sound of his fingers hitting the skin is oddly loud. ]
Follow-up question, did they tell you what it tastes like?
fffffffff I thought I sent this
I have not.
[Honestly, he's not entirely certain why someone would want to, but he supposes it's not impossible that someone in Garlemald had tried it at some point. Even if it's not anything he has any particular information on.]
no worries whatsoever // sorry this one is so short
Wanna find out?
it's fine!
I have no particular desire to, no.
no subject
Aw, that's too bad, pal.
[ But right -- back to what they were talking about! What was that? He blinks long and slow back at Emet. ]
So, how ya doing?
