[she's not going to say anything about his self-deprecating words. they've discussed this before, that he comes from a time when a building fell atop him, supposedly ending his life. he had gone against what his friends had wanted him to do.

I miss Karen too.

( but he does tend to wonder if he's hurt her more than even foggy because of their previous relationship. he frowns, letting those thoughts skim along his mind before he shrugs. )

But she's safer without me too.

[perhaps this isn't a conversation he'd like to have on his birthday, but— considering the floodgates have been opened—]

You had a relationship with her before, didn't you?

[it's no secret to wanda that matt was particularly involved with women.]

( matt's slow to answer, licking his lips and shoulders slouching a bit. he doesn't know if he wants to get into this now but a lack of answer is probably answer enough. )

We tried. It didn't work.

[she can tell how he feels about this thing with his friends, how he's somehow failed them. how he's at fault for the reason past relationships didn't work, that he's the reason they're in danger.

wanda frowns—tries bringing it back.]

[hesitantly edging over their own relationship, something she refuses to put a name to. she wishes she could do more about him, about his friends—but it's not something she has resolve over.]

[it's good to hear that from him. she has no intention of taking away from his friends from home, but it'd be easier if he could amend things while here. otherwise—it's a bit of a moot point to think about it.]

Do you... want to go out and see if we can hand out the cake to others around?

[preferably children, but it's been hard to spot the offspring of werewolves and vampires here in nocwich.]

( so her plan sounds like a good one. he flicks a smile at her and then reaches for the cake. )

I'm sure there's plenty of people who are going to want some. We can spread it around.

birthday wrap up?!

[for two adults who were raised as orphans, for the most part, they probably know better than most that getting to give something nice like this to kids is a treat and a half. wanda's favorite days where in summer, when the older ladies in the neighborhood came with fruit pies for them.

though he reaches for the cake, wanda makes a point of stopping him, using her magic to cut the cake in multiple slices, wrapped carefully in wax paper for easier distribution.

box closed, it's time to head on over and do just that. it might not be much or too grand, but it feels like the perfect birthday activity to do together.]

Let's go burn all that fat and sugar before it goes to your hips, then.
