Nothing Kaz Brekker ever does is for altruistic motives. If he offers his help, there is certainly going to be something he plans to get from it. Certain changes have happened living in a place where is one of the nameless, faceless masses to most, but that doesn't change the man he is. In this case, it was to gather more information about fleeting thoughts he entertains from time to time about opening his own establishment in Cadens as he had in Ketterdam.

At least that is the reason he'll give if pressed when he seeks out Inej and, without preamble, makes a proposal.

"We're heading to Libertas to make a delivery. Be ready in half an hour?"

At least it's worded like a question?

It's part of small concessions he's made and at least Inej is less likely to look as confused as Wylan had.

He's already dressed for travel though, everything pristine and pure black and even every last strand of hair in place. He's not so much worried about making a good impression as purely making an impression.
