EVENT #16: WINTERTIDE - IC EVENT LOG
Event #16 - Wintertide
Previous years have seen political complications arrive during the winter holidays. Luckily, this year appears to be a simpler affair...as much as that's possible for one of the Summoned. Although there are no diplomatic events, the status of the Summoned has grown over the past three years - and that means locals pay particular attention to you during important celebrations, especially if you've earned yourself some Influence.
Festivities start to pick up on DECEMBER 14 and continue until they reach their peak on DECEMBER 21, which coincides with a phenomenon known as The Dimming. During this period, the Singularity goes dormant and magic wanes. Celebrations continue in the following days until the Singularity gains its full strength.
For the island investigation taking place on December 29, click HERE.
NOTE: The island investigation log includes a DECISION for all characters who participated in Event #12 regardless of if they've returned to the island. Please read this section even if your character isn't participating in the excursion.

Local Festivities
Customs vary between nations, but no matter where you reside, you'll be encouraged to play a role. You're not limited to what the locals are doing, either! If there are any traditions from your home world you miss or want to share with your friends, you're welcome to do so. Teach each other songs from home, make your best approximation of a classic holiday dessert, or if the spirit of generosity compels you, you can even donate gifts and food to the less fortunate.
Player-organized open events are described HERE. Take a look if you'd like to attend or contribute to any of the available plots.
Thorne: The Dimming
Throughout the Kingdom of Thorne, the Dimming begins. Held in harmony with the annual cycle of the seasons and the slide of the Singularity into temporary dormancy, the Dimming is a celebration of two halves. The mood is generally somber and reflective in the days leading to the winter solstice itself, with the promise of a fantastic explosion of life, light and renewal waiting on the other side.
General Activities
◎ Around the city of CASTLE THORNE, horse-drawn sleigh rides take you through a picturesque route of freshly fallen snow and breathtaking mountain views while you enjoy some mulled wine. Rides are free for the Summoned. Many will try to entice you into their carriage. It's good for business to have given one of you a ride! As you go about town, you might attract notice. If you're lower on the Influence scale, you have a chance of going unbothered. If you're at 4 or higher, you're unlikely to escape attention. People will buy you a drink, ask you about life in the castle, or want to see you demonstrate your magic while theirs has waned.
◎ In BORREL, the Winding of the Thread involves a single cord wound throughout the city. Hopeful residents write wishes on colorful ribbons, then hang them on the cord. While large wishes are often only symbolically taken, smaller wishes, such as a new scarf or a friend to have tea with, can be granted by generous souls. And who might that generous soul be? Why, you! If you're so inclined, you can take a ribbon as a promise to fulfill that wish. You can put up a wish of your own, too, of course. Maybe a fellow Summoned will answer it?
◎ In NOTT, one of the frozen ponds has been smoothed over for locals to go skating while other ponds are open for ice fishing. When you're ready to take a break, you can enjoy hot drinks, crisp ales, and Nott's famous fish pies. Merchants are busy during this time, so if you need a little money, most will pay you to run an errand, help stock their shops, or mind the kids for a couple of hours. Residents in Nott are especially happy to meet you after all you've done.

Awakening of Magicks
Castle Thorne | Dec. 21
Light of Many Moons
Borrel | Dec. 18-20
Feast of the New Dawn
Nott | Dec. 27
Castle Thorne | Dec. 21
The burden whereby a Thornean mage sacrificed their life to offer a magical casket to the Singularity is no longer necessary, thanks to the Summoned. The Awakening of Magicks is a new and more uplifting ceremony held in one of the city's enchanted gardens. At the center stands a beautifully decorated topiary tree shaped to resemble the Singularity. Though lined with ribbons and holly, it's completely unlit.
Throughout the evening, you can enjoy delicious food, soft music, and a gift basket of Thorne's finest wines, desserts, and soothing potions. It's an ideal time to exchange presents or take a stroll around the winter-themed garden. Important aristocratic families will be there, and they all seem very curious about your presence.
At the end of the night, the Summoned are gathered by the King and Queen. Here, High Mage Ambrose Rhett will guide you in a spell to cast firelight from your palm, releasing a flickering ball of light towards the tree and illuminating the "Singularity" itself. The ceremony symbolizes your unique role in Abraxas and your ability to have your magic at a time when all other Thorneans are in darkness. The tree will remain lit until the real Singularity gains its full strength.
Light of Many Moons
Borrel | Dec. 18-20
Less a formal event and more an enticing phenomenon, locals gather annually on Borrel's seas to watch the moon jellies light up the ocean beneath their boats. Climb aboard to see for yourself. Boats won't travel out unless at least two people are aboard. Grab yourself a friend or wait to see who joins you as a surprise. The glow lasts only for ten or twenty minutes before it fades.
Stories say that if you glimpse a sea jelly that glows an odd red hue, you have a weight you must cast off by the season's end. Catching sight of this red moon jelly during your ride will cause your thoughts to wander toward something important you've always wanted to do or say. You might gain the courage to act right then and there, or you might do so later with a trusted companion. Afterwards, you feel a great relief.
By the time you're back ashore, you're probably pretty cold. Luckily, Borrel's inns are happy to serve the Summoned on the house during this special occasion. Enjoy a hearty meal and a drink free of charge.
Feast of the New Dawn
Nott | Dec. 27
Usually held in Castle Thorne, Nott has requested to host the feast this year to show their appreciation for the Summoned. A more humble affair than the castle's royal banquets, the town's best bakers, cooks, and brewers have come together to provide a feast of stews, grilled fish, and an array of pies and tarts.
Lyle Vela, Lord of Representatives in Nott, will attend. He won't have time for long conversations, but he'll be happy to learn your name and shake your hand. If you'd like to ask him a quick question or give him a message, you're welcome to do so. Just take care what you say. Although Nott's dissatisfaction with the monarchy isn't a secret, the town is hosting you on behalf of Castle Thorne, so be sure to keep things diplomatic.
Ask a question or pass a message to Lyle Vela here.

Free Cities: Festival of Enlightenment
Enlightenment and freedom from dependency on magic have come once more to the Free Cities. The phrase "Lights for Enlightenment!" is on every citizen's lips. Extravagant parties bring a buzz everywhere. Many creators flock to show off their work, whether that's a new invention or the season's trendiest fashions. Outfits emphasize the concept of illumination, using reflective fabrics and gems. Vendors offer little mechanical toys, decorations, and jewelry. Some glow due to naturally occurring substances, some have chemical reactions activated with the press of a button.
General Activities
◎ Each year in CADENS, special light-up carriages take eager citizens on set routes around the city to view the street decorations. Most importantly, each wagon is sponsored and designed by a particular association to draw attention to a cause or their services. The Academies, Fort Wilbridge, and the Free City Theater Company are common sponsors. This year, the Summoned will have a carriage to decorate using lights, metal bits, and glowing paints. Add your unique touch to the design if you like. The carriage is running regardless, so you should probably try to put something on it.
◎ In AQUILA, you'll have your pick of galas to attend from garden parties to fashion shows. Some of the most wealthy and influential people are out and about, and enterprising individuals are eager to make friends in high places. Naturally, this includes the Summoned, who've become a unique feature in the Free Cities. If you're lower on the Influence scale, you have a chance of going unbothered. If you're at 4 or higher, you're unlikely to escape attention. Designers will try to get you to wear something of theirs to show it off while locals will invite you to their exclusive cocktail parties or try to introduce themselves. You might even find some gossip or story about you in the papers the next day.
◎ In LIBERTAS, the party comes to you. Festivities spill out onto the streets at all hours of the day, sweeping up everyone who steps into the city. Art is displayed on every corner while outdoor stages are set up for concerts, poetry readings, and plays. Why not take to the stage yourself? Charity work is also common. Entertainers visit orphanages, and volunteers deliver food to those in need. All of them could use some help. Residents in Libertas are especially happy to see you after all you've done.

Aquila | Dec. 20
Liberty Charity Auction
Libertas | Dec. 22
Cadens | Dec. 17-19
In front of Portham Hall, great inventors gather to show off their creations, each vying to win the coveted prize of government funding. All inventions are on display to the public and judged by a team of Ministry officials. The harshest of them is Aleksander G. Klingel, known for his vital contributions to Cadens' technological advancements. This year, he's returned to solicit the Summoned in an experiment you might recognize if you've been around. It'll take only a minute! All you have to do is hold a metal rod. The tingling can grow painful if you hang on too long, but Aleksander won't stop you if you're determined.
Inventor Clarice Amaury has also created what she calls a Soul Mirror (trademarks pending). Designed as a therapeutic tool, the beautiful scenic cube behaves almost like a genuine biome. Clarice claims that watching the soothing forest within will help you reflect on your inner self. You're certainly relaxed and contemplative after you've interacted with the cube and your thoughts begin to turn toward something important you've wanted to do or say - which might be to the stranger next to you or a friend. Follow your heart, and you could find it feeling much lighter.
Gala of Illumination
Aquila | Dec. 20
The most influential party in the whole of the Free Cities, the Gala is held in the Gallery of Fine Arts, an architectural marvel that's converted into an enchanting ballroom. Well-known figures will be here, from famous performers to wealthy patrons to powerful politicians. Getting an invitation to this coveted event isn't easy, but the Summoned have a standing invitation. To entice important guests - including you - organizers offer free styling assistance, one-of-a-kind designer pieces to borrow for the night (you'll need to return it after!), and a gift bag containing wine, handcrafted accessories, and exotic desserts. More fancy canapés and drinks await inside, alongside dancing and famous artworks.
Fallon Marsh, Aquila's representative, will attend. With a sharp eye for commerce, he's led the city's economy to blossom during his tenure. He won't have time for long conversations, but he'll be happy to learn your name and shake your hand. If you'd like to ask him a quick question or give him a message, you're welcome to do so. Rumor has it he has something of a rivalry with Aleksander Klingel and Quilleth Kaur, but it's best not to bring that up.
Ask a question or pass a message to Fallon Marsh here.

Liberty Charity Auction
Libertas | Dec. 22
Libertas has often been the most community-driven of the cities. This year's Liberty Charity Auction is focused on the children left parentless after the attacks, and the Summoned are encouraged to attend. It'll be held in a performance theater next to the Willow Memorial Park. Quilleth Kaur will give a heartfelt speech in memory of the lives lost before yielding the stage to event organizers. Art pieces, exclusive collectibles like the first draft of a famous manuscript, and painting or acting lessons from the masters of their craft are all up for bid. Some of the more expensive pieces might be out of your price range, but you can bid on smaller items like imperfect sculptures or used tools.
You can sign up to auction off something, as well. Don't worry if you're not highly skilled or don't feel you have much to give. Learning about your unique home world or owning something you've made is an appeal in and of itself. As long as your efforts are sincere, you'll earn a bid to help the children. All proceeds will go to orphanages in the Free Cities.
If you'd rather help behind the scenes, you can organize the items up for bidding, write and deliver invitations to guests before the event, or help serve food and drink to attendees.
Solvunn: Winter Solstice
As the Winter Solstice approaches, spirits in Solvunn are high. Hung across every doorway and window are boughs of holly and large garlands of evergreen decorated with bells, twine, and poinsettia. Small altars adorned with candles glow at dusk. At night, bonfires roar in the middle of town where the adults can mingle. Songs and stories of the Gods are shared.
General Activities
◎ Throughout the PRIMARY SETTLEMENT, you'll be met with open doors wherever you go. Kindly neighbors will invite you out of the cold for a meal or gift you a bounty: mead, bread, scented candles, or even money. It's vital you accept the offerings, though there's no harm in paying it forward. Locals will be happy to take your gifts or accept an invitation from you in return. As you go about the settlement, you might attract notice. If you're lower on the Influence scale, you have a chance of going unbothered. If you're at 4 or higher, you're unlikely to escape attention. People will insist you join them to visit a shrine, ask for a blessing, or request your wisdom with a problem.
◎ In the SECONDARY SETTLEMENT, one key tradition returns: the Goat of All Tidings. A handsome-looking black goat wearing a festive coat made of patchwork tapestries is brought out and set loose to a boisterous chorus of cheers. It'll run freely, waiting to be caught. If you can lay a kiss upon the Goat of All Tidings, good fortune will follow you into the new year. Fail to apprehend and kiss the goat or befall its temper, and misfortune shall be your guide. Be careful! Snow and sleet make for slippery meadows this time of year.
◎ In the TERTIARY SETTLEMENT, preparations for Xeimer's Plunge are taking place. Pickled herring and fresh-caught fish are being collected and placed into bowls carved from antler and bone for the Elders to examine. Only the finest fish will do. Xeimer's shrine features a small pool in which approved offerings of fish are placed. Of course, his shrine must be protected and tidied daily to make sure it's ready for the upcoming Plunge. The herring attracts pests and small predators, which you can help defend the shrine from.

Blessing of Light
Primary Settlement | Dec. 20
Snowdrop Exchange
Secondary Settlement | Dec. 18-22
Xeimer's Plunge
Tertiary Settlement | Dec. 21
Primary Settlement | Dec. 20
Known only as The Light, this Guardian of Darkness is a key figure during the darkest days of the year. Along with Xeimer, the Light must be appeased or else the community risks plunging the world into an everlasting winter. In previous years, this involved Elders going from house to house to light the candles placed outside every door in small covered altars.
This year, due to the significant role of the Summoned in Solvunn, you've been asked to accept the task. Since Solvunn believes the Singularity's dormancy is part of a natural cycle, they will not request you use your magic, though you may if the Gods compel you to do so. The candles can be lit with a simple wooden splint. However you decide to do it, though, the important part is that you agree to give your blessing to each home by lighting the candle, then taking the offering placed beside the outdoor altar. The offering is usually a bone charm carved to represent the flaming crown of The Light.
You can turn down the role if you want, but declining to take part will be met with uncertainty, and even a hint of fear. The natives will want to know what they've done to offend you so greatly.
Snowdrop Exchange
Secondary Settlement | Dec. 18-22
Pledging yourself to the Gods is important to Solvunnites, but equally vital is your relationship with your neighbor. The Snowdrop Exchange is about reaffirming those relationships. White drooping snowdrop flowers bloom across the fields of the Secondary Settlement throughout the winter. You'll be encouraged to harvest the flowers and make a small bundle tied with a blue ribbon, then gift the bouquet to another person. This can be someone you want to get to know better or someone who already has a place in your life.
Doing so will cause you to experience a strange warmth in the cold. You find your mind wandering to something important you've always wanted to do or say. You might gain the strength to act right then and there to the person you've pledged to, or you might do so later with somebody else. Once you do, you feel much lighter, as though Xemeir himself has released you from the weight of your worries.
Xeimer's Plunge
Tertiary Settlement | Dec. 21
To make good on their promises, the Council has chosen to hold this year's Plunge in the Tertiary Settlement. Xeimer's Plunge is based on the Herald of the Frost's love of the winter waves. Participants strip down and dive or run straight into the freezing Hydra Gulf to join him on his swim. Don't fret! You'll get thick blankets, hot cider, and a roaring bonfire to gather around afterwards. While there's a desire to appease the Old God, the event is also about accepting a thrilling challenge, something the locals love to do.
Rowan March, a member of the Council, will attend. Known for keeping the peace between farms, Rowan is a familiar face to all of Solvunn. He won't have time for long conversations, but he'll be happy to learn your name and shake your hand. If you'd like to ask him a quick question or give him a message, you're welcome to do so. Rumor has it there was conflict between him and former Council member Josselyn Creed - now disgraced and executed - but you'd be wise not to discuss Josselyn during this happy occasion.
Ask a question or pass a message to Rowan March here.
There are no Influence requirements.
Oleuni Square
Summoned who were here for the previous winter will remember Nocwich's role in the celebrations, mediating a discussion in Luna for nation officials. This year, Nocwich has taken a backseat, but since the holidays often bring a good amount of money to shops and markets, Nocwich will open for visitors from December 14-20 and from December 23-28. To conserve magic, portals will close on the 21st and 22nd.
Only Oleuni Square will be open. Luna and Ikorr are both closed. Lady Elin is also not available during this period.
The Marketplace
Making up the majority of the Square, the Marketplace consists of a series of outdoor stalls and a few actual shops. Whatever you can think of can be found here, from jewelry to clothing to food and wine. There are fancier eateries where one can order a meal and cheap street vendors. Much of what's available is of fairly high quality. If you're looking to buy some gifts or simply spend time with friends from other nations, here's a good place to do so.
All of the usual sights and sounds can be found, with a few additions for the season.
All of the usual sights and sounds can be found, with a few additions for the season.
◎ THE MAIN STAGE. Musical performances and plays will celebrate the Winter Solstice. Merchants will bring around roasted chestnuts and cider for attendees to enjoy. Dancing is encouraged!
◎ SHOPS & STALLS. Shops will cater to those searching for presents or that touch of something special to their outfit for an upcoming party. Take a look at winter-themed jewelry, fine fabrics, and bouquets of flowers found only in Nocwich. Or what about a glowing tattoo for a permanent mark?
◎ EATERIES. To attract customers, eateries and inns will offer special items for the holidays. Try uniquely spiced mead and cocktails, taste exquisitely crafted desserts, or order the chef's platter for dinner. You can also book a romantic holiday room for you and an important someone.
The Arcanis
The height of luxury and the pride of Luna, The Arcanis is a "cruise liner" that first made its introduction last year. The decks are spacious and could be mistaken for a grand opera house. The ship seems suspiciously bigger on the inside, but locals will tell you that it looks as expected - nothing unusual to see.
Though The Arcanis is normally docked in Luna, the werewolves have moved it to the shores of Oleuni Square for this occasion. It offers an eatery, gambling lounges, and spas, as well as the following unique features that take place only in the winter.
◎ SKYLINE SEA
◎ CHARLIE THE TURTLE
Though The Arcanis is normally docked in Luna, the werewolves have moved it to the shores of Oleuni Square for this occasion. It offers an eatery, gambling lounges, and spas, as well as the following unique features that take place only in the winter.
◎ SKYLINE SEA
Once a year, during the Dimming on the night of December 20, creatures of the deep sea take to the skies. Legend has it these creatures never used to reside in the water, but the Singularity's growing strength forced them to migrate deep under the ocean due to the interference with song frequencies.
Most of the marine life are whales and sea jellies, but following behind them is the fearsome golden serpent and its friendlier but no less gigantic companion the rainbow carp. These creatures will not attack. They will simply migrate across the sky and vanish into the stars.
You can watch this incredible phenomenon on the deck of The Arcanis or on the shores. You'll get a thick fur blanket to protect you from the cold. Those watching are encouraged to make a wish and then share that wish with one other person. The Lunae believe sharing a wish with another will help it come true.
◎ CHARLIE THE TURTLE
Charlie, affectionately referred to as Admiral Chuck by the captain, is an ancient turtle that's resided on the ship since its first voyage. He's often seen lumbering through the upper and lower decks at an average turtle pace. Staff will claim that they've seen him speed by out of the corner of their eye, but none have proof.
Legend has it that Chuck may have witnessed the Sinking of Tornis or perhaps even once was a resident creature of the now-vanished city of Tornis. No proof of this exists, either, but turtles are extraordinarily long-lived so he may have been there.
While he isn't very talkative during the rest of the year, the winter cheer has made him open up again, especially if you bring him food. Those gifted in animal speech or other unique communication abilities can have a conversation with Chuck.
To converse with Admiral Chuck, reply HERE with what you'll say and an answer of some sort may come. Keep in mind that he is, in the end, just a regular turtle, so his insight may be limited.
Arcanis: Night of the Dimming (for Claude & Hilda)
Are you two warm enough?
[ He's got his own scarf from Hilda tucked snugly around his neck, and a coat to stave off the worst of the night's chill, but he's far more accustomed to the drops in temperature, despite having lived in the desert for the past year. ]
no subject
Despite that she still shivers as the cold air manages to seep through the gaps in her clothing as they step up onto the deck that night. She's quick to bring her hands in front of her mouth to blow on them in an attempt to warm them up. ]
I should have brought gloves.
[ Her gaze turns upwards. In spite of the cold, it's hard not to admire the way the stars stretch out above them. It reminds her of the time spent here last year which had been under very different circumstances, alongside news she had hoped she would have preferred never knowing. Some of those memories are fond but there's a melancholy that settles on her shoulders, breaking up the giddiness from the joy the evening had brought. ]
It feels so much colder than last year for some reason.
[ Or maybe she had just been too seasick to notice. ]
no subject
But. There's only so much he can brace himself for, and that first blast of wind as they step outside is enough to make him grimace as he takes his gloves out of his pockets and hands them over to Hilda. ]
That's because it's really cold. [ Is the immediately grumbled response while Claude's working on winding his fingers into the blanket they've been provided like that'll keep them from going numb. Not that they're anywhere close in reality with or without gloves, but it certainly feels that way. To Claude, at least. ] Last year we had the benefit of warmer clothes, too.
[ That's enough complaining by pointing out the obvious, especially when there's something far better to focus on. Not before unfurling the blanket enough to wrap some of it around Hilda and then to shoot Sylvain an expectant look immediately following given there's one person here who (probably) isn't cold, though after that Claude turns his gaze skyward. As always, the sight of the stars brings a smile to his face. ]
These might not be the stars we're used to, but I daresay they're becoming familiar enough by now to be worth getting a chill or two. Or seven.
no subject
He watches the way Claude wraps Hilda in some of his blanket after handing over his gloves, so he comes over to join them with a chuckle, spreading his own to wrap around both since he - and it - are considerably larger. Plus, he tends to run hot even in winter, so he has body heat to spare here. ]
It’s not that cold yet. Look, we can barely even see our breath yet.
[ Clearly that’s a decent indicator of ‘cold’.
He lets his head tip back at Claude’s observation, however, his eyes scanning the skies overhead. ]
It still feels strange, to look up and have it be so unfamiliar. Even after a year of it. I’ve learned more of it, sure, but I still find myself looking for familiar shapes up there that are nowhere to be found.
no subject
Before she can tug the glove on or lean into the sturdiness of Claude's body, Sylvain's arms wrapping around the pair of them has her teetering slightly into him instead. A little "oof" is pushed from her lips. Sure enough, there's barley a cloud of breath that follows it. ]
Just because we can't see our breaths doesn't mean that it isn't cold. Neither of us grew up in Faerghus.
[ Conveniently she also skims over the fact that Goneril could be as cold as Luna and she grew up with similar weather like this in the winter months. Despite her protest there's laughter in her voice. Finally she tugs the glove on before nestling into the both of them, allowing herself to lean into them. Before her eyes sweep up towards the sky, they linger briefly on both of their profiles. ]
There are some days I forget what the stars at home looked like. But it's not like I knew them very well to begin with. [ Her hands tugs the corner of the blanket in closer before her arms go to wrap around her frame to draw more warmth to her core. A beat later and another question leaves her lips. ] Do either of you miss Fodlan?
no subject
That's Hilda's way of saying the way you measure what's cold and what isn't is faulty.
[ And needless to say: he agrees as the large deal of mirth in his voice signals. Two out of three of them here shivering is proof enough! Saying so takes away the fun of teasing Sylvain about it even as an important question follows - one he doesn't have to think about an answer for even without the gift of multitasking. ]
No, I don't. Being in generally less existential danger, sure, but Fodlan itself? [ Well - there's more Claude could add, if it wasn't there being some rather important things he should tell Sylvain. There's a real enough answer to still give even if it's not the full one. ] I miss some of the people more than anything, but in some ways I'm not sorry we're all here and away from the rest. Not even if we can't take this with us.
[ If only, but tonight he doesn't want to dwell on that either when it's too close to letting Fodlan in. Instead Claude wiggles a hand free from the layers they're now all wrapped up in to point at one very bright constellation in particular. ]
Those stars right there are some of the main navigation points. The ship's probably using them too since we're headed that direction on this little trip, though I don't think I noticed that last year.
no subject
But he lets the joking face after a moment as he lets his gaze continue to scan the bright skies overhead. Searching for the first sign of those wondrous creatures expected to soar overhead tonight, too. They'd been a beautiful sight last year - it's part of why he'd insisted upon coming back. That, and he thought this time away together might be good for all of them. ]
I miss some of the people. [ He admits softly after a moment, voice quiet and subdued. ] Worry about them. Wonder if I'll ever see any of them again. But no. I can't say I miss Fodlan, either. Maybe it's disloyal of me, but I think even if the Singularity gave me a choice - stay or go... I'd still choose to stay here.
[ That's not something he's really admitted outloud before, and it has his arms tightening around them both for a moment, as if that would be enough to keep them here with him, even if he knows that's a purely selfish desire. ]
Then again... this is far better than anything I've got waiting for me back in Fodlan. So I guess that's not all that surprising.
no subject
There's little point in debating what it is cold and what isn't when someone was born to be a snowman - but Sylvain will hear a snort from Hilda all the same. While her gaze stays trained on the bright star Claude points out, her attention is still entirely focused on the two of them and their answer to her question.
The topic about whether to stay or to leave Abraxas if they were ever given the choice isn't one that she's spoken about at great length with anyone. Quietly, she isn't certain that she knows what her answer would be if faced with it. But indecisiveness had always been an avenue for her to avoid making decisions that could potentially disappoint the others around her.
To say that both of their answers surprised her would be a lie however. Not when she knows the both of them. Not when she knows what life in their world held for each of them. When Sylvain's hold tightens around them her hand wraps around his arm in quiet understanding. ]
I miss people at home too. [ There's a moment where she lapses into silence. ] I don't think that's disloyal of you. Now that we've had time away I see that Fodlan isn't the kindest place.
[ She almost says to the, "And hasn't been to the both of you," but stops herself short. Under the blanket her hand goes to find Claude's hand, gently tangling their fingers together before turning to her own admission. ]
I don't know what I would do if we were given the choice.
[ Their decisiveness puts her to shame. She could return home. She could stay here. Both had their advantages and things that they lacked. ]
Maybe I'd go home. Maybe I wouldn't. I'm not sure to be honest.

It's well-timed with Sylvain's hold on them both becoming tighter whether it was instinctively or intentionally so to keep them there, and that's a clear enough sign to let any and all teasing go. The topics which follow absolutely don't call for it, and Claude tips his head back against the other man's shoulder and drapes an arm around Hilda's waist after returning the squeeze to his hand while he continues to look up at the sky. ]
Everyone could do with a chance to get away from where they've always lived.
[ Said neutrally and easily done since it's a vague statement to make at best, and it's also one Claude's aware enough isn't feasible. Fodlan doesn't offer many opportunities for that, if any, and besides that - it assumes a lot about what would go into being able to do that even if there was a chance.
Abraxas hardly qualifies as that either since they didn't ask to be here, but it's brought with it a dilemma that's only grown louder and louder in his mind the more days and months turn over on the calendar. To stay here with a life they've built for themselves, or to go home and pursue everything he'd been about to start?
The answer never feels any easier to find each time he's searched for it. ]
I don't know what I would do either. But it's not disloyal to not want to return because there's somewhere else you belong, or to want to stay in a better life. Not when that's what you deserve.
[ What they all do, really, but: after that talk on the rooftop between the three of them, this is Claude's way of making sure to repeat it yet again to make sure it sinks in for Sylvain at some point as he's certain Hilda will also do. There's one more important point to add to that, however. ]
And uncertain as everything is, what I do know is that I wouldn't change anything about being here with both of you.

[ His arms tighten momentarily around both of them as he brushes a kiss against the top of Hilda's head and keeps his gaze on the stars. ]
You two are the best thing about this place.
[ He's not the sentimental sort, and saying words with true deeper meaning are still hard for him but that... it's at least a truth he can give voice to here tonight. And he wants them to know it. There's no telling what the morrow might hold. He might lose either one or both of them at any moment and he didn't want to be left with only regrets if that happened. ]

After everything that's happened to you, you deserve to be where you want, Sylvain.
[ If that was here, or in Fodlan, or anywhere else - then that was his choice. No one else's should matter. But that was easier said than done for someone who wasn't selfish like her.
Claude's answer draws her gaze away from the stars above them and to him. Quietly, she knows that he's speaking from some experience. The reminder of the inevitable, of why he had left Almyra in the first place, and that he had accomplished at least part of his dream makes her heart clench just like it had any other time she thought about him leaving Fodlan. Another thought adds to that pressure in her chest: the thought of either of them leaving fills her with such potent sadness that she's quick to try and bottle it up again before it can permeate off her skin.
Sylvain's arms tightening around them once again and the kiss to the crown of her head threatens to unstopper that feeling. Her grip on the both of them tightens to combat the lump in her throat. The urge to tease both of them for being sentimental and sincere rises to the tip of her tongue but instead she refrains. The last thing she wants is to sully this moment somehow when it feels so precious to her. ]
I don't know what I did to be here with you both right now, but I'm glad that I am. [ She huffs. Trying to add some levity to draw attention away from the mildly watery quality of her voice. ] Even if you can both be super annoying.
[ Preemptively she almost says her wish aloud. But the superstitious sort, she lets it bounce harmlessly off the back of her teeth for later - and only if she feels brave enough to do it. ]

Or to give the fates that idea that one of them, any one of them might open their eyes here to find they're alone.
The arms tightening around them says also what Claude can't quite bring himself to past what genuine ones he's already offered, and without thinking about it or second guessing the movement he shifts within his makeshift blanket cocoon enough to be able to place a hand on Sylvain's arm. It's just in time also for the waver in Hilda's voice he knows well, and knows even better to know it's genuine. ]
Well, as long as we're super annoying in your eyes then it's all been worth it.
[ Teasing feels right since she's talking past that lump in her throat even if they've - all three of them - come farther than that in being able to express things to each other even if there's more to go. After so much honesty recently, this is one he's more than willing to let go as he wraps his arm around her waist a little tighter to keep her close just as Sylvain's doing for both of them. ]
And I'll take that as an honor, even if I'd also argue Sylvain's the infinitely more annoying one. [ With a grin flashed back over his shoulder since that's just clearly a lie from start to finish of that sentence and he knows that title is one which firmly belongs with him, especially with this demonstration of it in action. Not for long since there'll be time to continue joking around later rather than diminishing too much out of this moment. ] I'm glad both of you are here, too. For this day and for any other ones before it, and for any of the ones yet to come.

[ He doesn’t actually know that at all and the chances of Hilda siding with him here are slim, but he plays along anyway.
But when Claude glances back over his shoulder at him, he bends forward to steal a kiss from those grinning lips. Just because he can. And because he’s supporting equal and fair play here, he next turns those warm lips on the little bit of flesh he can see of Hilda’s neck, peeking out above the edge of her scarf. ]

[ Quietly she's glad that neither have drawn attention to the fact that she's clearly overrun by some sort of feeling. Expressing herself has so rarely been a problem, even within the confines of what dictates proper decorum. Her coddled upbringing encouraged the subtle and not-so-subtle princess behaviour that she was infamous for whether that was exuberant joy at a dessert spread or crocodile tears when she didn't get her way.
But she had never felt so deeply like this in such a delicate scenario. Risking vulnerability despite having already running herself ragged to get here still feels like more of a calculated gamble than she's done before. It's still embarrassing. All of this is to some degree.
She can feel them shift behind her. Is close enough to hear the soft press of their lips against one another's and it makes her cheeks burn slightly unable to stop the feeling like she's intruding. Instinct wants her to move or slip away but then she feels warmth against the nape of her neck. Heat blossoms from the place his lips touch and they'll both feel her breath catch in her throat caught off guard before shaking it away. ]
Maybe that'll be my wish instead when the migration starts. [ Dramatically she clasps her hands. ] For the both of you to be less annoying and not bully me.
no subject
[ Not even that kiss he'd hummed a small pleased note into - or that he's openly grinning after it and at the sight of Sylvain's lips moving over Hilda's neck next - is enough to keep that from being his immediate response. It's because of it, really, in that this is a different comfort level than any kind of meaningless sass he might offer to just anyone at any time.
This is security in the steady ground they've worked their way towards in one step to another and with each other. And while their treatment of each other, including as he squeezes Sylvain's arm still beneath his hand and hugs Hilda a little closer yet again, may not have changed all that much, it has in other ways he's not sure he could quantify. But then again - for once, Claude's not tempted to overthink it. ]
And don't use your wish on that, Hilda, because I don't think either of those are going to happen any time soon. Especially when this is hardly bullying, but if you're asking for us to come up with something...

[ He informs Claude of this with mock primness. Before going right back to teasing his way along Hilda’s throat with his lips. And maybe a cold nose. ]
And maybe, [ this, to Hilda, just as he presses that cold nose in the space right behind her ear. ] if you didn’t have such delightful reactions, we wouldn’t be so tempted to do all this ‘bullying’ in the first place. But since you’re unlikely to stop, we’re just as likely to continue being so annoying. Although that’s mostly Claude.
[ Says the person currently tormenting her the most. ]

[ The rest of her sentence is lost in her squeak at the sudden sensation of both cold and warmth against her skin. Immediately she shivers, skin pebbling beneath the blanket. Another protest is immediately on her lips, ready to fire off - until she realizes that she'd be proving Sylvain's teasing statement true. Her lips purse, cheeks puffing up lightly as she gives Claude a little hip bump and Sylvain a little elbow to wherever it is her elbow falls on him. ]
Neither of you can tell me what to use my wish on since it's mine. But if that's the case then I'll just wish that I'll be less reactive. There.
[ Got 'em!! You show them, Hilda. ]
no subject
[ This might be getting a little ways away from the point - that about what wishes should be for or maybe what it is Hilda's actually wishing for - but it's more immediate here in reactions. Important ones, like the shiver he can feel go through her from Sylvain's lips' careful path as a different sort of reaction as he also pointedly runs fingertips featherlight along her side over any bit of skin he can reach. ]
Don't listen to Sylvain either since he lives for a good reaction as he's proving right now. Call it one of his annoyingly charming traits. [ With a fond eye roll to go with it since it's true enough though Claude's still focused on something else, and only a tiny bit due to a desire to rile Hilda up a bit more as he leans in to supposedly speak just in her ear and all the while loud enough for Sylvain to (purposefully) overhear. ] Though I'll let you in on a little secret: he's got plenty of fun ones if you spend a little time teasing him in more ways than one. We could just team up on wishes to make him more reactive.
no subject
[ He trails off with a hum, even if there's laughter dancing in his warm gaze as he tightens his arm around Hilda's waist, tugging her back against his chest as he leans them both into Claude a little. Trying to keep them both warm out here while they wait for the late night show to start. ]
I guess this means I should figure out what I want to wish for, huh...?
no subject
That's the point. You two have enough fun without adding more fuel to the fire.
[ And she has plenty of examples to prove it. The dramatic readings of the erotic fiction in the Nether, the continued pestering of lingering, flirty touches against her skin like the ones they're doing right now. She's already mid-twitch thanks to Claude's still chilly fingers finding exposed skin in the cuts of her dress when his breath tickles her ear. It sends another jolt through her prompting an indignant squeak as she goes to push his face away from her. The task proves a little more difficult thanks to Sylvain's bear-like grip around them but she manages to press her palm against Claude's cheek in retaliation.
Several retorts are on the tip of her tongue: that she doesn't want to know what Claude is implying even though she has an inkling of what it is, that she isn't even that reactive - but she stifles all of them in favour of a huff. ]
Don't you dare say more snow in the Free Cities. This is plenty. Although if you're taking suggestions, maybe you could wish that Claude would be less annoying. His fingers are so cold!
[ This is the last time she's wearing a dress with this many cut out's. ]
no subject
[ He's already chuckling while he says this since it's far too difficult to sound anywhere remotely near serious, even though what Claude says certainly sounds exactly like something he'd do anyway. By the time Hilda's pushing his face away he's actually laughing at that point, and with Sylvain's assistance in those strong arms around them he wriggles away enough to be able to press a kiss to Hilda's palm before snuggling in closer to them both.
He is, however, storing that complaint about cold fingers away for use later since the night certainly has plenty left to it. ]
But I'm with you, no snow unless we're going somewhere where it should be so Sylvain can enjoy the entire arctic setting while you and I make sure we wear something far warmer for this from the start. Or bring about forty more blankets with us.
[ None of which helps him figure out what his own wish should be as he looks up to the clear sky above and considers that very topic. There's a multitude of sentimental things he can think of - hopes for their future, more of the feelings he's working to not conceal beneath so many layers of everything else, and many things in between. But maybe the answer to finding something is far simpler than that when there's something to name which fits all of the above, and this time it's less of a tease when he voices it again. ]
Though I think what I'd wish for is this night to not end here when there's a room waiting for us that'll take care of any and all ways to get warm with the both of you.
no subject
[ There’s humor in his voice as he smirks over at Claude, still snugly wrapped around Hilda. But he reaches out to flick that upturned nose as Claude stares up at the stars. ]
Also a waste of a wish, since I’m sure we can think of plenty of creative ways of warming up between the three of us. I definitely have at least half a dozen in mind just standing here.
Although that’s in part to someone having been giving me ideas all night.
[ And Hilda might feel a pair of cold fingertips skating across her skin in one of those spots where her dress fabric is cut away to expose her flesh underneath. ]
no subject
While she knows very well what he's suggesting she feigns cluelessness. ]
Well don't keep us in suspense. Creative ways like what? A toasty little campfire? Something like a warm mud bath, maybe?
[ If you can't laugh about a mildly horrific time in your life then is it really growth and starting over? In the next moment Hilda's laughter turns to a slight shriek when she feels another pair of calloused fingertips brush against her skin. But trapped in their embrace she can only squirm and writhe in his grasp. Even if she wanted to dart she'd be at the mercy of the cold. Which of the lesser of the two evils still has yet to be seen. ]
Sylvain - !
[ As her protest echoes out across the deck, the sky begins to darken and several excited cries and shouts sound out around them. The show is about to about to begin. ]
no subject
Ask and you shall receive, Hilda, since I think you just found out what sort of ideas Sylvain's got in mind.
[ Ones he certainly does himself given he's already implied as much and there's far more implications to go what with her right here between them. A practically infinite number of ways to remark about the weather and what to do back in the room, really, and it's for the best (for Hilda) that the sky begins to move.
Even Claude falls silent, not one to run his mouth through this when it's no less awe inspired than it was a year ago. A year: not for the first time it crosses his mind what a year it's been for each of them and together, and what it means to be standing here now stronger for it with the new path they're on. For all his love of words and crafting them, they fail him now as they all look skyward, and instead he simply pulls Hilda and Sylvain closer still.
Perhaps that speaks louder than anything he could offer aloud - just contentment to be here with them both, plain and simple and with nothing else to obfuscate it. ]
no subject
[ There’s laughter in Sylvain’s tone as Hilda writhes against him but he lets his cold fingertips drift away from bare skin, content to tease for now while they were still on the deck.
Just in time, too, as the sky starts changing and Sylvain watches with quiet wonder as a myriad of glowing creatures start to swim their way across the sky.
He’s still convinced this is one of the most wondrous sights to exist in Abraxas. Maybe even anywhere.
He leans into the other two, still wrapped around them as much as possible, and lets out a soft sigh, content to soak in the sight with them. ]
