"It doesn't have to be... all home, right? Someone in Thorne told me we could build anything we wanted."
She's not opposed to expanding on what's already here. But she's Annabeth. She always sort of wants... more. She will gladly talk about this world and the Horizon and their territories instead of her own personal state.
"I've met him. He is nice. We mourned the lack of vehicles and the inherent spookiness of bicycles to medieval weirdos. They just give us beds in Thorne and hope we'll spend our time with magic, I think. It sounds like the Free Cities is a little more militaristic?"

Even though Annabeth had been a year rounder, she'd gotten out, she'd developed a wider array of experiences. She had more canvas to paint with. Plus, this was probably like her dream come true, right? Being able to create whatever she wanted, kind of like landing the Olympus project.
"I'm quite sure I can't even begin to imagine what you might come up with. I'm sure it will be brilliant."
Will kicked a rock with his toe, leaning against the grass. "I mean, they don't even give us beds in the Free Cities. Technically some Summoned worked together with one of the Innkeepers to provide rooms if we pitch in, or we can join the military, yeah. That's what Clarisse did I think. " Big surprise there. Clarisse, joining the military.
What's Thorne like? Are the beds at least comfy?"

She's been thinking about it. A lot. Part of her visitations here are just looking around to see what other people do. It really does seem... full of possibilities.
"I'm really not surprised about Clarisse." She says it fondly. "As for Thorne, we're kind of expected to live in the Castle, but we're allowed to leave for day trips, when it's not storming like crazy. The beds are fancy. Four poster curtains and everything. Probably some of the nicest I've ever slept in. But you do get a sense that they've got their Summoned on a bit of a lockdown. Sounds like the Free Cities is a little more... free."

Will let his feet brush against the grass, kicking off the flip flops he had been wearing and sending them...somewhere. "The Free Cities are definitely Free, but you're pretty much on your own for everything. Is the situation in Thorne more of a prison or more protective? But honestly? Four poster beds sound kind of nice."

She hums thoughtfully. "I need more time to figure it out. It could be a bit of both? It sounds like the royals and mages sort of have an agenda about us. I know the bed is probably just to help win us over, and even though it's in the castle, it's still free. Where does everyone stay there by you?"
no subject
"So it's kind of like camp?" People who wanted something from you, free place to stay. It was home, but that didn't mean the gods didn't always have an agenda. Hades, even the campers had an agenda, especially when it camp to events like Capture the Flag. Still, it was home.

It's definitely a thought she's already had of the Horizon - she doesn't know if she wants to create something stagnant here, not when it's so easy to shape. A baseline to adapt and change - now that sounds pretty fun.
Annabeth makes a face. "No. I don't get Camp vibes from it at all. I mean, after a certain point we're sort of free to come and go at home." Or maybe that's just Annabeth and her longevity, her deep connection to camp. "The Castle and Camp having expectations is the only thing they have in common. Thorne's way more restrictive."
no subject
"Are you safe? In Thorne then? For all it's restrictions? Are they afraid of you or trying to keep you safe?" Were their Summoned in gilded cages for safety....or fear? Camp could be thought of as a cage, but it was still home. They were there for their own safety. But Thorne? That sounded different, now, the way Annabeth put it.

She wonders if there's some fear, but she hasn't gotten the chance to really talk to some of the Summoned who've been around for ages like she wants to yet.
"Like, curfews are annoying. But we are a summer camp. Thorne has curfews on fully grown adults, which is a different level of weird to me."
