i. (don’t) exit through the gift shop ;
Welcome to Ed’s Inn & Tavern & Fine Gift Shop. You’ve likely wandered here due to that invitation in your hand, a word from a fellow Summoned, or because you were simply curious.
The inn itself is situated between the Primary and Secondary settlements, nestled in a nice plot of land with a garden out back, and a pen for the goats. There are little fairy-lights decorated along the eaves of the roof, and candles to set the cozy atmosphere. Inside, you’ll find a front desk with no one currently behind it, or sometimes a three foot tall raccoonoid standing there who will not speak with you until you ring the bell, even if he’s there, because that’s the freakin’ rule. The desk itself has nothing on it save for an empty bowl and the single bell. And afterwards, if you do ring the bell, he’ll demand (okay, ask) whether you’ll be needing a room.
In one corner of the main lobby area, just by the entry door, a small table has been set up with a seemingly random bunch of nick-nacks placed over it, under it, and to the sides of it. A single nail without an actual picture has been pierced into the plaster wall as though holding its place for something to come in the future. If asked, Rocket will explain that it’s a dumping ground for the owner’s stuff, because he’s not dead or anything, he’s just on an extended holiday. (But it can be noted that his voice sounds a little melancholic when he explains as much.)
This will be followed by a quick clearing of the throat and a not-so-subtle, ‘Hey, check out the gift shop while you’re at it. The guy who ran this place collected a lot of weird shit and it’s awesome’ before he follows you right behind. Apparently he mans this station too.
The gift shop itself is actually more of a stand, set up with all manner of odd items, some of them veering towards creepy or weird. Some items may even be haunted, but who knows? It’s all explorable at your own risk, and don’t feel pressured by time. Take as long as you need; just know that you might have to haggle to get the price that you want. Donations for items you want to take off your hands are also accepted, and there is a rather not-so-subtle ‘tip jar’, with a couple of coins already in, set on the side.
If you need any help while exploring your stay at the inn, employees Arthur Hastings and Nanaue will also be present at opportune times to aid you. (Feel free to ask Arthur about the furniture around the place; it had been built by him.)
ii. a feast for all ;
The bar and kitchens will be busy tonight. There are tables set out to encourage more mingling and less opportunity to be anti-social (though a few single tables will be left for those that insist on the wallflower life), with foodstuffs placed like a buffet. This includes a few wheels of Nero’s cheese collection cut into slices and served with preserved meats and crackers to start with, and a few pots of vegetable and meat stews for a proper dinner, courtesy of Himeka, the inn’s chef. Tifa will be at the bar, ready to serve any interested patron a drink.
There is a dart board hanging on the wall to one side, and decks of cards and dice games for when you’ve filled your share of food and want to mingle with something other than alcohol. And for the musically inclined, you’re free to request an instrument from Wanda, however … don’t be too surprised if your instrument is a little out of tune or weirdly misshapen. It’s fine, it still works…ish.
The Official Unofficial Welcoming Committee (made up of Wanda, Himeka, Rocket, and Nebula) will be making their rounds as usual, so feel free flag them down for a quick chat. And if you notice an odd looking small little cat with a white-and-ginger coat lingering around the space (usually found around Wanda or Rocket), feel free to make his acquaintance too.
Each Summoned can take a jar of preserves or jams with them as a kind of welcoming gift, and next to the pyramid of carefully placed delights is a stack of pamphlets, also free for the taking. There’s a lot of Very Important information within, as well as a few expertly crafted doodles to get you better acquainted with your new home.

iii. all in a day’s work ;
The fenced-in area of the yard is relatively neat, but there are spaces where there is clear gardening and other yard work taking place. Some of the older Summoned will say ‘the previous owner liked his flowers, you know,’ like it’s common knowledge, and while one won’t be expected to help, the invitation to pull out weeds or tend to what garden beds and pots that exist will be there.
There are other tools: pitchforks to pick at clumps of hay that the goats wandering in have spread about, shovels to push at larger rocks, watering cans for the drier-looking plants and flowers. Some stone slabs sit on the side of the inn, waiting for the walkways to be planned out and set onto the ground proper. It will come quickly, the understanding that here, in Solvunn, everyone works together to make things happen–as much is true for the Summoned in this territory, too.
Later on, as the day simmers down both in activity and temperature so the sun starts setting behind the rolling fields of Solvunn too. The brook behind the inn sounds louder now, not for its water, but for the animals that start their tunes for the night; the air is brisk and chilly, but plenty of beautiful butterflies and colorful toads can be found amidst the flowers and moist rocks, respectively. Should one not want to tempt fate and catch a cold, there is, instead, the start of preparations for a bonfire on a dry patch of grass. Stools are brought out from the inn, set around the area, and twigs, kindle, and logs need to be brought close for the fire.
And then–warmth, from the roaring fire, as cups with hot apple cider are passed around to those wanting, old and new Summoned open for conversation.

[ He performs some real multi-tasking and frowns at the pamphlet at the same time as he takes a swig of his drink. It’s still the version he’d goaded Nero into updating months ago—maybe a year ago now? Time flies, and Nero is long dead despite still appearing on the back of the pamphlet. He doesn’t think he’ll be giving the others shit about that one, though.]
When I got here, the most shocking thing on there was the chicken-legged house.
[ And he never really heard the explanation for that one, but it must have been a minor enough occurrence in the grand scheme of things because while it’s mentioned, it’s not really a big topic. ]
But uh…you’d be surprised, this one actually needs updated pretty badly. Not bad information, just...I think they'd benefit from evolving to a handbook at this point.

Gift Shop
[Arthur seems to appear out of nowhere, looming politely in that way that only very tall, very skinny, very English people can manage. The gift shop doesn't usually get lots of interest, beyond the brief and morbid sort. He couldn't help but notice the unfamiliar woman's perusal.
Really, he ought to make some normal little woodcrafts or something to offer up. But the gift shop as is has personality! In some cases, a bit too much personality.
He leans in and lowers his voice, conspiratorially.]
But, er, between you and me...I probably wouldn't. Very dodgy histories on some of this stuff.

Feast for All - Cards
( Julia is there to greet everyone and just have a nice social night. She's been working hard at the orchard since it's the season for it, and she smells of apples and cider as per usual. She isn't a part of the official group but she tries to show up for each of them. There seem to be a lot of new faces this time around which is sort of a shame; for them, at least.
She can spot something witchy a mile away, although sometimes it turns out to be a false assumption. But they're in a world of magic and there's a higher chance of other witches to come through the spell, so she's eager to see if there are more. Her dark hair is plaited and she looks like a petite average human, but there is a lot of supernatural power underneath the surface. )

He'll allow her the space and breadth to look shit up on her own, 'cause he's got people to deal with at the front desk (how the hell did Ed run this place?) and he hates how nosy and invasive shopkeepers can be, based on his own experiences.
However, moments later he'll be standing on top of a foot-stool that's behind the counter, watching her consider fiddling around with one of the objects in particular. ]

The very loud meowing takes him by surprise, but it isn't unwelcome. Jack can't help laughing, feeling sympathy for the poor guy.]
I bet he wants to play! How can you deny him that?
[Sitting on top of a fence, Jack presses his hand against the wood to cover it with frost. With a big grin on his face, he proceeds to draw a mouse on it - nothing detailed but perfectly proportioned. Then he concentrates as he waves his hand, causing the little mouse to pop out of the frost in 3D. It begins running around, but its frosty feet aren't actually touching the ground.
Have fun, Dot.]

It's a cheap line. He'd used it in the first Alex Casey book during the second meeting between the jaded detective and the novel's requisite femme fatale. Recycling it now would qualify as some kind of narrative shorthand. A shortcut. A magician's trick. Only Wake doesn't particularly like the parallels. For one, neither the detective or the girl is a very flattering role. Two, they both die badly in the story. All things being equal, everyone's probably better off if he avoids making that connection.
Instead Wake says:]
It could be worse. At least it isn't raining.
[Standing there in the shadow of the inn's gate, Wake doesn't actually seem so committed to the idea of moving out of it just yet. But give him two minutes and he'll boil his way down to following the gut instinct that's already lodged itself in his chest. It's certain. It says that staying here in the cozy well-lit inn for the night isn't going to get him anywhere. Better take your chances on the dark, Wake.]

[ Not that she is a wallflower really. She's answered a question here and there and now - tired of it for the moment - spotted Wanda and decided to head for the bar. The other woman greets her before she can say anything and she snorts in bitter amusement. ]
Didn't think you did. You have enough jobs.
[ It's the closest Nebula gets to teasing, but it's there. Really, she has no room to talk either. She doesn't grab a drink, but she's happy to just sit for a moment as she breathes out. ]

[ There's a lightness to his tone that suggests a jest even though his face shows nothing of it. He steps out into the light of the candles, somewhat intrigued that she picked him out so easily; though he no longer has his magic, the dark has always been a friend of his.
He hadn't been waiting for her. In fact, he had been doing his best to avoid the crush of the crowds, carrying out his daily tasks instead. Without Sleipnir such interactions are interminable; he needs information, he knows, but he is determined to find a way through that doesn't involve alcohol and card games. That he bumps into Wanda now, right as the number of people wane, the night scattering them like seeds, seems somewhat fortuitous. ]

This "job" isn't like when she worked the food cart back in the slums, where she had to be working every second of her shift and barely even got a break except for when she was granted a brief meal. Her instinct is still to work hard, even with something as laidback as this — she wasn't even interviewed, Ed just basically hired her on the spot.
But a few other Summoned have made a point of reminding her not to overdo it, and that's how she ends up heading outside with a cup of warm cider to take a breather. Or that's the plan, at least, but then she spots Wanda approaching the gate looking a little overburdened, led by an adorable and chatty cat. ]
It's fine! [ She laughs when Wanda tries to undo the cat's insistent meow, stepping forward to unlatch the gate and hold it open for both of them. ] He's a charmer.

Jack Frost ❄️ Rise of the Guardians ❄️ The Fool
It's nighttime by the time he returns, and the pure fun energy happening in the inn immediately tingles his senses. Soon he's mingling in the crowd, perching on tables and floating around as he tries to find food that isn't too salty. The fun vibes are so strong that he even makes a round near the bonfire, keeping a respectful distance from the flames but still bouncing around people to pick up their enjoyment.
Now it's time to enjoy himself, too.]
A. Fruity Popsicles
[Since the older kids are still around for the celebration, the drinks aren't all alcoholic, which Jack is thankful for. There are plenty of jars with fresh juice, its taste rich and sweet, thanks to the wonderful local practices. Jack has shared plenty of stories with the kids, and now that his powers are back, he's ready to give back to the community with some of the promises he's made.
After filling up a bunch of glasses with all kinds of juice, he starts gathering all the spoons he can find.]
Are you using that? [He doesn't even wait for your character to reply, he just grabs the spoon and puts it inside a glass. Since he doesn't have sticks, he has to improvise, alright?
Once every juice glass has a spoon, Jack touches them one by one, freezing the juice inside to make very colorful popsicles. His grin shows how proud he is of himself as he removes them from their "mold" and offers them to whoever is nearest, although the kiddos take priority.]
If you find me some chopped fruit and sugar, we can make them even better.
B. Dart Board
[Now here's a classic! Who doesn't know darts? Jack loves the fun energy going among the players as well, chuckling at their competitive spirit. However, something strange starts happening: whenever someone (like your character maybe?) throws a dart, a light breeze starts messing with its trajectory.
A real mystery, isn't it? Except for the part in which Jack is snickering and giving his brand-new shepherd's crook a little wave whenever this happens.]
C. Dancing
[Sorry, random stranger, but Jack will stare at you with raised eyebrows, not believing what he just heard. It's not every day that someone invites him to dance, after all.]
Dance? With me? [Give him a second to process that. He looks down at his bare feet, which are leaving a trail of frost on the table he's perching on.] ...I don't think that's a good idea.
[But the spark in his eyes says he would love to.]
((none of these work for you? Hit me up on the cr meme,
DANCING!!
[ Nanaue loves every party, and has tried before to get people to dance with him to varying degrees of success.
His jaw hangs open and his gaze drops to the table where the frost has formed beneath Jack's feet. Also on the table is a curious creature - a white furred baby seal, who also happens to have little legs. The smaller bipedal creature is gnawing on a candied apple.
The manshark's flat black gaze slides back up to Jack. ]

The joke’s on you, actually. Because, uh—
[ He hops down from his own perch to gesture grandly to the wall surrounding the dart board, showing off a series of little pinprick holes where it’s clear that darts have totally missed the board and stuck in the plaster instead. He grins, almost proudly. ]

He's standing to the side watching people flub up darts because he also finds enjoyment out of watching people messing up, except he's catching a pretty intentional pattern in the way the pointy bit keeps veering off to the side just enough to miss its target.
Huh.
A quick and surreptitious scan of the immediate vicinity gives Rocket his answers and a moment later, Jack will find a three foot (and one inch!!) tall raccoonoid standing next to him, arms crossed. ]

[ He doesn't even give her the chance to answer (maybe she needed that for drink-mixing!), but instead of reprimanding him, she's distracted by how he manages to freeze the juice in each of the glasses, then pull the popsicles free without any trouble at all.
That isn't really the sort of thing you could easily do with a Blizzard Materia. Fascinating.
She blinks and wordlessly takes one of the popsicles when he offers it, studying it for a few seconds but not yet taking a lick. ]
This wouldn't be a very good bar if I didn't have both of those things. [ Sweeter alcoholic drinks often incorporated fresh fruits or a sugar rim, so she's done her best to be well-stocked. She glances down at the frozen treat. ] You really go out of your way for them, huh?
[ A few of the kids have already collected a popsicle from Jack and are excitedly enjoying such a rare and interesting dessert. It won't be long before they're bouncing off the walls or running outside to let off all their energy, Tifa suspects. ]

Daisy Johnson | Agents of SHIELD | Strength
QuestionsA Feast For All[Daisy heard from a few of the Summoned in town about the hangout happening at an Inn, and she figures it’s the best shot she has at finding out more about this place without being looked at like she was sent here by the ‘Gods’. For a while, she can be found sitting at the bar eating stew and sipping on an ale while she reads over one of the pamphlets that had been set out.]
What do you know about the Singularity? Other than the fact that it’s dangerous.
[Daisy asks to whoever may be within earshot.]
[After finishing her stew, Daisy takes her mug of ale with her and heads over to the dart board and watches as someone collects all of the darts to start a new round.]
Mind if I join you?
[Most might consider this an evening to socialize, but that’s not why Daisy is here. She has more questions than answers at the moment, and she can’t say she’s a fan of that.]
All In A Day’s Work
[The chilly night air is a welcomed change from the stuffy Inn air, and while others start to gather around the bonfire that’s being built, Daisy can be found sitting by the brook. Squeezing a rock in her hand, Daisy is reminded of when she met her mother and their day together where she learned how to use her powers. Closing her eyes, Daisy feels for the frequency coming from the rock, but there’s nothing. Her body and everything around her, for the first time in what feels like forever, are absolutely still.]
Remember that feeling. It’s not something to be afraid of.
[Her mother’s voice echoes in her head, and it’s only when the breeze rolls through again that she feels the tears rolling down her cheeks. Opening her eyes she quickly wipes away the tears when she hears approaching footsteps. Tossing the rock into the water, she wipes the wet dirt off of her hand onto her pants, looking up at the person who's holding a cup of hot apple cider out for her to take.]
Oh. Thanks.

Except that eventually Rocket had urged Tifa to move away from the bar and do her own socializing, to take a break and enjoy the small party for herself. It had taken some coaxing, but she's officially been relieved from her duties for the night — until someone needs her help with something, anyway. She'll certainly be circling back to clean up once the party's officially over.
For now, though, there's the dart board.
It's a small thing, but throwing darts reminds her of Seventh Heaven. She can still recall the leaderboard and all the back and forth and trash talking that happened over it. No one had been able to beat Wedge's score... until Cloud came along, anyway.
Daisy's voice jolts Tifa out of her thoughts, and she immediately turns to her with a smile and a firm nod. ]
Not at all!
[ She gestures to a narrow tray nailed into the wall under the board where extra darts are stored. ]
I know all of this is, well, a lot to take in, by the way. So if you ever need anything, please let me know.

yuffie kisaragi 🍃final fantasy vii 🍃 the tower
custom scenario 1) yuffie breaks her landing with barnabas
Of course, the nature of these small settlements being what they are, Barnabas has also found himself undertaking all manner of tasks in return for such hospitality. In this instance, the butcher had talked to the baker, who had talked to the candlestick maker, and soon Barnabas had found himself volunteered to locate the missing goat of some person or another. It is familiar, a long lost dream of a dream, a coat that no longer fits him. Familiar, but it is not welcome. Removing the butcher and taking her home for himself would have been easier, but again, the nature of small settlements. And Barnabas knows the value of patience.
All this is to say that he had been attempting to skirt the edges of the celebration that had sprung up at the local tavern, goat in tow, when he hears a loud clatter, and then a scream, and then Barnabas has mere seconds to find the source—a child?— try, and more importantly, fail to summon his blade again, before it piledrives him into the ground. ]

[ If there is ever an occasion to cook for others, Himeka readily volunteers. This instance is no different, especially when it overlaps with not only her desire to volunteer as part of the Unofficial Official Welcoming Committee, but her position as Head Chef of the inn. (She will forever be grateful to Ed for giving her the opportunity.)
It's important to make sure that her contributes stay well-stocked. So at times she disappears from making rounds elsewhere to slip back to her domain to prepare the next batch of treats.
Delectable smells emanate from beyond the kitchen doors, which open easily to any with curious noses. At the sound of the door opening, Himeka looks from her position at the counter deftly slicing shallots or over her shoulder from a large pot over the stove. [ For as much as an extrovert as Himeka can be, she does enjoy quite moments just as well. The sound of moving water is rejuvenating, even if fresh water gently spilling over rocks is a bit different than the ebb and flow of the sea.
She sits happily down on the bank, pulling a shawl tightly over her shoulders--she likes water, yes, but isn't the biggest fan of the cold.
If someone is already there, she greets with a nod as her tail wraps lazily about her folded knees. ]
It's a lovely night, isn't it? Did you enjoy yourself?
[ If she thinks she's alone, she hums to herself as she watches a frog hop from one stone to the other. It ribbits once, looking pointedly at the water. ]
Don't hold back.
[ The frog does, wiping one of its large eyes with its food. Puffing her cheeks out for a few seconds, the frog seems to mimic her by ribbiting and holding its throat out in a large bubble. Himeka lets out an amused huff before reaching out over the water. Wiggling her fingers a bit, the water begins to glow and pools upwards against gravity towards her palm. Then with a playful flick, she sends it over to the frog who is rightfully splashed. And decompresses. ]
Cheeky, aren't we?

[ Nebula would never be one to light up a room. Not like Himeka is - that's who she thinks of, anyway, and she doesn't mind. Some people are built for different things and Nebula... She's still learning what her own person means in certain ways (so far that's showed itself in unflinching determination to repair buildings and prepare others) ]
[ When others settle in and get more at home to put on shows, she thinks it's a fair enough time for her to leave the room. The spear she keeps on her waist on her mind as she moves away - thinks of catching some from the river as she sits down instead. ]
[ Listens for a while to the noises of happy chattering and music. Doesn't move at the sound of walking, because if it's a threat she has no doubt she can disperse it and if it's friendly she doubts they will talk to her. And yet they do and her breath catches into a laugh as she answers: ]
It's too many people. They're noisy.
[ A very Nebula answer as she pauses and then adds: ] ...You can see the stars well on nights like tonight.
