[Bent to his will, in no small part thanks to his physical merging with the device. That had not been Viktor's choice, but he'd resolved not to squander the gifts, not when he needed to atone for his transgressions. To finally do something good for the Undercity.]
If it were here-- [It is not; he feels its absence,] --I would be able to use it with only a thought.
no subject
And you've used it at home? May I ask what you've done with it?
no subject
[That will be easier to explain. The Horizon allows for the manifestation of his memories, but with his own abilities, he can share the sequence of events with Alucard using only a touch.
He will, however, ask permission, even if he's not being entirely clear about what he plans to do.]
no subject
[He's not sure why this has such weight, but apparently it does. Alucard pauses Rio's belly rubs, giving the moment the gravity that it seems to demand.]
no subject
It's a complicated sequence of events, everything that brought him to this point. Alucard will see the missteps of the Hexcore, the lengths to which Jayce went to save him--and his departure in the aftermath. His first augmentation. The Commune that sprung to life in his wake, and the way he used Hextech to clear the air and provide fresh water. It ends after some months of activity there, with a strange conversation with Jayce and opposing forces gathering at his gates. The cosmos bleed in to the end of the memories, returning them both to this strange astral plane. Rio looks at Alucard, expectantly.]
You have questions.
[How could he not, after all that?
no subject
--Alucard thought that just being in Viktor's Horizon was a lot. The sudden flood of events, the narrative of it, the complications, Viktor more or less fucking dying only to come back and lead an entire Commune and...
...He can't sprawl backwards exactly. But Alucard is very glad to have not had his hand on Rio either. He might have squeezed too hard in just trying to hang on to everything.
Questions.
Fucking hell.
He's quiet for a long, long time. A hand extends towards Rio, wanting to pet her again for the need of just something to do with his hands. This...whatever it is...appears to work in the real world too.
Alucard can't find words. They're not going to come in response to all that.
Which is a good place to start.]
I'm...going to need time to make sense and truly parse everything you just showed me. This isn't me having opinions about anything I just saw, it is just an overwhelming volume of information to suddenly have in one's head.
no subject
I thought this would be more expedient.
[There's some apology in his voice, for the sheer amount of information. How disorienting it must have been. Rio, for her part, nudges against Alucard in an apparent attempt to offer him reassurance.]
Suffice to say, my own horizons have...broadened.
no subject
[Alucard's hand rests on Rio's forehead and--
His eyes narrow.]
Did you just make a pun?
[If not, the word choice is deeply delightful. Alucard needs to parse all of this. But he can't do it instantly in front of Viktor. So there's only one way to put them on even footing.]
Does that ability to impart memories in an instant work the other way as well?
no subject
[But he manages a small smile, figuring he needs to take what he can get, given the shock of everything. Alucard will take some time to himself, he's sure, and then return with the difficult questions. For now, he's able to entertain what he does manage to ask.]
Yes. But I would not do so without your permission.
[This had been a one-way transfer--at least for now.]
no subject
[He pauses. Then lets out a quiet laugh, looking down at Rio then up at Viktor.]
I don't know. Perhaps turnabout would be fair play. Then we both get to have too many questions about each other.
no subject
[He's not sure what it would accomplish--Viktor knows most of the worst parts of Alucard's past, and won't ask for the parts he doesn't know unless it feels necessary. Alucard shouldn't have to bare himself out of a misplaced desire for things to be "fair".]
You're not obligated to share. And I promise I will never do it without permission.
no subject
Truthfully, I think you know everything.
[He does. The only new things would be the better moments. And that isn't the worst thing in the world to share, give what Viktor has just gone through.]
no subject
[He would not be so presumptuous. Viktor certainly doesn't know everything, but Alucard is right that they're familiar enough with each other by now that nothing would be a surprise. There's no obligation, here.]
no subject
[There's that. Mixed in with the nonsense.]
no subject
[Which he knows Alucard will not quantify as happy, but Viktor feels more at peace with the events of his dream, now that he remembers all his time in Abraxas. He's sure Alucard will continue to process this, too, but for now perhaps Viktor should be glad that he's offering this, instead of relitigating their arguments about the imagined years.]
Unless you're so adverse to talking about yourself that you'd prefer I probe your mind.
[Seems like doing it the hard way!]
no subject
[Alucard's smile is soft. Rio's snoot gets a gentle boop as well.]
Go ahead. I think I want the scales balanced.
no subject
He'll reach out, fingertips touching his forehead again--then closes his eyes, ready to explore.]
no subject
The inevitable memories come too. Lisa's murder, the great fight between Alucard and Dracula that resulted in the giant scar down his chest and the agony of recovery. His friendship with Sypha and Trevor, the warmth it brought in the face of doing the unthinkable, mixed with flashes of Sypha's time in Abraxas. Dracula dies, Trevor and Sypha leave and Alucard processes his grief, lets the world in until it turns on him, until he's pulled out of a well and he's caged in with Geralt. Alucard tries to force through that portion, the stuff Viktor knows. He focuses on the good parts. Realizing actually Jaskier is his best friend. Reconciling with Sypha even if it meant fights and awkwardness. And...
...they're here again.]
no subject
He feels the joy--the happiness--as if it's his own.
Of course, it can't last, though Viktor knows that Alucard is not intentionally showing him the worst of it. Joy and despair--two sides of the same coin. His friend would not be the person he is without either, and Viktor watches as the unspeakable betrayal of his father's misdeeds gives way to new friendships. New bonds, just as valuable.
When they return to the astral space, there is little to say, at least, nothing that could properly convey his gratitude. Viktor, hesitantly at first, closes his hand around Alucard's upper arm and pulls him in for an embrace.]
no subject
But no. None of that happens. What's offered is taken at face value, and--
--The embrace is welcomed and returned in full force. Not just because the dhampir feels more vulnerable than he is comfortable with, but because Viktor has been through the wringer too. More than Alucard has, if the dhampir is being fully honest. He's seen immediate death, gone through a second apotheosis, and then there's whatever is going on with Jayce.
So they can float together in quiet for however long it feels appropriate. Alucard doesn't care.]
no subject
Thank you for showing me this.
no subject
Thank you for enduring the things I was struggling to work around.
no subject
[Which friendship is very much not. But still, he knows what it's like to bare himself to someone, to approach every situation on the defense, for fear of getting hurt.]
no subject
no subject
[All he's ever wanted was to end suffering--now, he finally has the means to do so, or at least he dreamed of a world where it was possible.]
You don't have to bear any of this alone. I hope you know that.
