( Just to put it out there, Jack has seen some shit. He's seen the truest horrors of the universe, he's died, he's seen portals to hell and things the human mind wasn't meant to comprehend. Generally speaking, he's not fazed by much anymore.

But despite that, if he has to be completely honest? Something about Yennefer is a little bit low-key intimidating. He can't put his finger on what, but she puts off the distinct vibe that fears no mere mortal, dragon, polar bear, or tax audit.

Man, he misses Amy.

Yes, please. Or, I think so. Not necessarily alchemy specifically, just um. How to... magic? But also alchemy, alchemy's probably cool.

( Granted, almost everything he knows about what alchemy even is can be summed up with either "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" or "Full Metal Alchemist", but he'll keep that to himself. )

[ he's not wrong on that front, though. she does not fear humans, she has fought a dragon (or, well, technically fought to protect one, but that is a longer story), polar bears are just the same as any other bear, and considering her low-key tax evasion history, yeah, not on her list of fears at all. and not that he would ever be the one to know what that list would be, judging from the impression she is getting right now that a stiff breeze could knock him over.

horrors and knowledge not understood by men be damned, he's not exactly giving off any intimidating vibes himself, which also means that yennefer - despite her best efforts to be a patient and understanding teacher, is already feeling her patience run out. ]

How to magic... [ she repeats, as if making sure she understood the words right, but also looking entirely unimpressed with the articulation of it. but she also hasn't kicked him out just yet, and her tone isn't mean, so...they're getting somewhere. ]

Anything in particular?

( It's true, you won't find a less intimidating figure on this planet than Jack Townsend. Truth be told, that makes it easy as hell to underestimate him — especially considering all the power he's got rolling around in his core. )

Yeah, I think so. I mean, anything would be great, but I can... kind of do like two things, and the other day this total asshole pointed out that if you put them together they might be dangerous. I really, really hate admitting that he might be right, but... I guess he might be right.

( Stupid Satan. Ugh. )

I can make things. Not always on purpose. Except coffee, I'm getting... really good at coffee. But sometimes, stuff just kind of appears, which is awesome if it's like... candy or puppies or something, but probably less awesome if it's a grizzly bear or a bomb.

[ the more he speaks, the more yennefer's brows lift. there is a sort of anxiety to his rambling that emits from him, and she doesn't have to sense any of that power from him to see it. instead, he just talks, and talks, and less like jaskier who manages to always have some sort of control over the direction of his ramblings, this boy just seems to spew words that wander and weave without direction.

but yennefer does listen, and despite herself, she does feel herself get a bit more curious each new piece of information he shares. assholes aside (seeing as thorne is full of them and she doesn't plan on going down the list), there is truth to it. that summoning, the ability to summon like that, uncontrolled, is quite dangerous. ]

What's the other thing? [ she asks, when it sounds like he's finally stopped. ] If you're able to do two, and one is make things, what's the other?

Memories. Other people's, I mean. I've been sort of... seeing them, or maybe more like living them.

( Which feels different, somehow. Standing as a third person and watching something unfold with a degree of separation is a little less intimate than being the person it's happening to. Feeling their feelings, thinking their thoughts, knowing the context. Living it through their perspective.

In any case, when you combo the two things together...

Let's just say he had a flash of one of Lucifer's memories, and manifesting literal Hell around them on accident would probably be very not great. )

It's pretty random. I don't know when it's gonna happen or why I get the specific memories I get, but... I get them.

[ luckily, or perhaps not luckily, the seeing memories bit of jack’s abilities is far from surprising yennefer. be it the fact reading memories and thoughts has been a part of yennefer’s experience with chaos since the beginning, or even the more recent outbursts from the horizon, he says reading memories and yennefer doesn’t look bored, exactly, but less pulled.

( that doesn’t mean that she’s not immediately wary of him - with her own secrets, with her own lives, the last thing she needs is someone in thorne seeing any of that. but, at least for now, she’s getting the impression jack is…well, not harmless, but not malicious in the way that would actually affect her )

for now, yennefer just nods, unable to keep herself from already thinking of how she’d go about this. usually they must be taught to tap into the chaos, though initial glimpses of power are necessary. this…if it’s happening with any consistency, is most likely magic of the abraxas variety. ]

Let me guess- when you accidentally see a memory, you’re more likely to summon something from that memory than anything random? [ a beat. ] About how often does this happen?

Yeah.

( It's a soft exhale — and frankly, it sounds a little bit relieved. It sounds like she knows what she's talking about. If she's familiar with it, she must be able to teach him, right?

Not that often during the day, but lately, I've been-

( A brief falter as he looks for how to phrase it. )

Not... sleepwalking, exactly, but close enough. It seems like whenever I run into somebody doing that...

( Shrug. Fill in the blanks. It happens. )

It's just once or twice a week now, but I have a pretty... weird relationship with sleep. It's probably gonna get worse.

[ unfortunately for him, it's less that she's familiar and more that she can see the logic of it. where the chaos congregates, how it translates when it doesn't have someone who can translate it. when he agrees, yennefer gives another small nod.

the during the day doesn't surprise her that much either - if he's unable to control it, it would make sense that it becomes more frequent when his usual tensions and guards are down.

it's the falter that catches her attention, her brow furrowing as he explains. ]

What do you mean 'weird relationship with sleep'? Nightmares are hardly weird, so I would hope it's something more interesting.
