[ She chews on the inside of her lip for a measure, before replying. ]

Because it requires me to give up some of my life Force to do it. It isn't a finite resource, once I've had time to rest I'm fine, but there were warnings in the books I learned it from. People who pushed themselves too far and paid too heavy of a price.

[ yennefer watches rey as much as she listens, trying to figure out if there's more she isn't saying. ]

And have you done this before? Or been taught how to by someone?

I have.

[ Rey gives Yennefer what she hopes is a reassuring smile, folding her hands in her lap. ]

I taught myself with kyber crystals first, but I lived with a rebel group for a year. There was no shortage of people getting injured.

[ the reassuring smile does carry enough with it that yennefer can recognize it for what it is, but even still she seems tense. like she is trying to understand, exactly, what it is rey is looking to get out of this. or, perhaps, what it is she's trying to say - that she has been keeping it secret, but that she wishes to offer it now.

yennefer's eyes go from rey's folded hands in her lap, to her face - not exactly curious, but more the look of a teacher who is not certain they believe what they're hearing - but also, under it all, there is an almost hope that this could be this simple. ]

And it has not been affected by the Singularity?

[ Her smile falters a little at that, and she shakes her head. ]

I haven't had a reason to heal anyone since coming here. My other abilities are unaffected though, the only thing the Singularity seems to have done to me is this-

[ Rey lifts a hand to run through the hair falling down her back and pooling in her seat, grimacing a little as she hits a snag and pulls it over her shoulder, freeing her fingers. ]

[ it does not appear that yennefer understands what rey means when she threads her fingers through her hair, but she also doesn't find that she cares. instead, she's focused on that first bit of information, the fact they rey has not tried to use these abilities. ]

And you're offering these abilities to me? Why?

[ you'll have to forgive her caginess, rey. it's also just who she is as a person. ]

Admittedly, part of me just wants to see if I can do it.

[ She's nothing if not brutally honest. ]

But also, you're important here, and you were hurt because someone didn't do what they were supposed to to protect you. I'd like to do something to help, and I don't think anyone will let me near the investigation into Grigory's death, so here I am.

[ well, at the very least yennefer appreciates and respects the brutal honesty, because it actually makes sense to her. particularly the idea that she would have rather been investigating grigory's death and because she won't be allowed to, she is here. and whether or not yennefer wants to let it slip, there is a very sudden tension in her at the someone didn't do what they were supposed to. ]

Fine. [ she says with a kind of finality. like rey has been trying to convince yennefer to let her heal.

before rey has the time to react (or not) to her tone, yennefer gestures, an impatience to her. ] How does it work?

[ Rey is used to Kylo and his moods, so when Yen shifts from skeptical to impatient it doesn't phase her in the slightest. Instead she straightens in her chair and holds her hand out. ]

I just need physical contact.

[ Yennefer doesn't seem like the kind of person who loves warm hugs, so Rey is very cognizant of making sure she has permission before laying hands on her. ]

[ rey would be correct, as yennefer glances down to the hand and then back up to the girl. she's not entirely certain what she expects to happen here, and she's definitely certain she doesn't trust it, but yennefer's impatience outweighs her concern.

she's not staying in this sick room another day, if she can help it.

so, after a moment, yennefer reaches out and sets her hand in rey's - watching very closely just in case she notices something is going wrong, tense in anticipation. ]
