INTRO LOG #2
Intro Log #2
It has been two months now since the initial group of summonings first took place. Castle Thorne, or at least the part above ground, is buzzing with a vibrant air of hope following the 'success' at the Singularity. Eager smiles and excited chattering are to be found in nearly every corner of the castle and surrounding town. The honored guests may find grateful looks turned their way more often than not. A new and brighter day seems to be dawning on the kingdom.
In the dungeons it's a different story entirely. The mood is somber and uneasy. The prisoner taken for trial has yet to return, and no word has come regarding her or her fate. There has been no mention of any further trials as of yet and guards seem to have little patience for unruly behavior or even conversation. Some seem to not even look at or acknowledge the prisoners at all.
[ Feel free to continue threads from the TDM here or start your own! As cell and room assignments will be short-lived due to this month's event, you're free to assume whichever cellmates and roommates you like instead of officially signing up as long as there are ICly no more than four people in a cell or room at once. ]

Nadine Cross | The Stand | The World
[Since returning from the Horizon, Nadine has been subdued. Not that she'd ever been the most social of butterflies in the first place, but she'd make an effort to strike up conversations and check in on certain people regularly.
Now she spends a great deal of time in her room with an open book that sometimes she can pay attention to and sometimes she can't. Practicing her magic is one of the only things she finds herself able to focus on.
But she has to eat and bathe, so she can be found in the dining hall or the communal baths - usually late at night - when she isn't in her room or in the dungeons. Oftentimes outside of her room she'll be found wearing a wide brimmed white hat pulled down snugly low on her head. In her room, head bare, the two little pearlescent curved horns now sprouting from her head are clearly visible.]
2 - Dungeons
[Nadine's visits to the dungeon aren't any new development, but rather than making the rounds and bringing little treats to various prisoners, she spends a good deal of time just sitting outside the cell of her husband Randall Flagg. She'll have a book on magic with her.
But she hasn't abandoned her good will trips entirely. While not as frequently, she will come around with her basket of cakes and cookies, offering them to the prisoners held down here. Whether she knows them already or not.]
3 - For Homelander
[Rarely, Nadine ventures to the library. She can't read the same book over and over again. And maybe there's something in one of them to answer any of her myriad questions. She only has more by now.
It catches up to her all at once. The Horizon, the return, everything since then...gritting her teeth, Nadine leans back against a bookshelf in a sheltered corner of the library and presses her hands against her face to try and hold back the scream of frustration and confusion that threatens to escape.]
i
He loves it! He loves it so much, because the people wandering the hallways -- the pretty nobles, the pretty maids, the pretty servants -- don't seem to notice just what is building under their feet.
You're gonna die screaming. He thinks as he passes one of the people, giving them a happy little smile in greeting.
And then, he halts. ]
Oh, what a cutie!
[ He skids to a stop as he sees quite a lovely beauty walking the halls of the castle. Her hat doesn't hide her gorgeous looks which means he is soon skipping on after her. ]
My, my, my. I don't think we've met.
no subject
So it takes her a moment to realize she's being addressed, snapping out of her reverie and slowing down with a vague shake of her head.]
Uh...no, I don't think so.
[She doesn't recognize this one, but it's clear he's the same as her. Another poor soul kidnapped from some other world. Of course they brought more. Why wouldn't they? Their experiment with the Singularity worked, after all.]
Did you get pulled in with the latest batch?
no subject
[ He draws his words out to show just how much he laments about the fact that he didn't get a chance to meet such a beauty like her. ]
I did, indeed. [ Nero tilts his chin up a little. ] The High Mage cried tears of joy when he saw me.
[ Did he? Absolutely not. But he just enjoys telling this story and making it more elaborate as he goes along. But she has such a soft, delicate voice that he can't bring himself to say that those tears were because Ambrose saw the monster between his legs. A classy girl doesn't deserve to hear those things right away. ]
As I'm sure he did when he saw you.
no subject
[And then there's the other half. That's weighing on Nadine as well. It's been months and she and Lloyd are no closer to freeing Flagg than they'd been in that first week.
But she's having a conversation right now, she can't keep getting distracted in her own head. Existential crises aren't any reason to forget her manners, she was brought up better than that.]
But that only goes so far. Ask too many questions too often or push about the prisoners and there's a lot less excitement. I'm Nadine, I've been here a couple of months now.
no subject
[ The elf turns his eyes down to the ground. ]
I am seeing that, too. [ It is why he's limiting his questions to only other guests or prisoners. There's no use traveling trails that have already been traveled, and it seems like everyone has the same questions. ]
Nero. And I've been here a few weeks, I guess. [ It's hard for him to tell time. He wonders if it is just because he's immortal. Still, he really should work on trying to figure out how long he is somewhere. ]
no subject
[Then again, time's become a funny thing since Nadine's world ended. It was easy to lose track of days, she couldn't even recall the date it had been when she'd left. Not that it likely matters.
And the Horizon hadn't helped.]
But it could be worse, at least there's food and hot baths and we're not stuck in the castle anymore. We couldn't go into town, at first. Of course they don't have pizza here, and if you hit it at the wrong time the baths are communal...but still.
[Nadine's standards for living aren't very high at this point.]
no subject
[ He holds his hand out to her in order to offer to take hers in sympathy.
Still, he probably isn't going to be allowed to do much with any of the guests. Something tells him that Ambrose would get super pissed if the guests were busy fucking instead of saving the world, or whatever-the-fuck the man's masturbatory fantasies about the guests are. ]
Wait, pizza? What's that?
no subject
Lonely? Not really. My husband's here too, and a good friend. I got lucky, in that sense.
[With Flagg still stuck in the dungeon, she'd have lost her mind by now if not for Lloyd. She has people here, people she can rely on and who look out for her. As best they can, anyway.]
It's just...there's only so much to do, I guess. Uh, pizza's a food where I come from. I'm from Earth.
no subject
Husband, huh?
[ Nero can't help but be a little fixated on that point more than whatever friend that Nadine seemed to have also been brought to this place with her. ]
Yeah, I understand what you mean. [ He can't do what he would like to do since he's waiting for his chance to spring Martin and his boss free from the dungeon. There is a bit of logistics that have to go with that, and boy, he fucking hates planning. ]
I'm afraid that doesn't mean much to me, but it sounds... exotic?
no subject
[It's no secret that she's Flagg's wife, even if that doesn't seem to matter to the authorities here in Thorne. But that's just another thing that there's no point thinking about.]
And it's...yeah, it probably is to anyone not from my world. It's a circle of thick dough and it's covered in tomato sauce and cheese and whatever else you want on it. It was really popular. At least until the world ended. Like I said, it's been a long time since I had any.
[Maybe she could get one of the cooks to approximate it for her, apparently they'll do that. It's not like it's hard.]
Where are you from?
no subject
[ He pauses to squint at her face, like he is unsure if it really is romantic or not. But it certainly sounds like one of those stories that girls like to drown themselves in, long engagement and kisses and sweet nothings, etc etc.
Nero refocuses his stare on her as she explains what "pizza" is. A circle with tomato sauce and cheese? He imagines one large ball of dough and feels his face shift to a baffled expression. But he offers her a humoring smile and nods his head in agreement. ]
Yummy. [ He chirps back. ] Oh? Where am I from? I'm sure they named it something, but names change so often that... I gave up paying attention. In one-hundred years, Thorne might not even be known as Thorne anymore.
It's hard to care about the names of places when you think of it that way, am I right, sweetie?
[ But then he has to backtrack a little on what she said. ]
Sorry. The end of the world? [ They went from long-term engagement to the end of the world? ] What happened?
no subject
[In a sense. But mostly far stranger than Nadine is about to admit to a stranger.
She listens to him talk about where he's from, not that it tells her much of anything. Except it gives the impression he's very old, the way he talks about places. A small snatch of an old song flits through her head and a small smile tugs at the corners of her lips without thought. Even old New York...]
Oh, uh, yeah. Plague. Wiped out most of the population, only less than one percent of us didn't get sick. That happened...a while before I came here. A year, maybe? It got hard to keep track of dates. So as far as quality of life goes, Thorne is an improvement.
no subject
[ Nero can't help but smile as soon as he hears that word. It really is music to his ears. The idea that only one percent of all life didn't get sick makes him even happier. ]
I completely understand what you mean. We're also dealing with a plague in my world, too. It's very end of the world there, but I'm happy to say that it didn't cause as much devastation as yours apparently did. [ The Red Eye Disease is a lot slower moving than what Nadine is talking about, anyways. ]
Why don't you tell me more about your plague?

3 - Homelander
He's taking a stroll through the castle, not doing much of anything and trying to not get too annoyed about the fact that he hasn't been summoned for a meeting at. Some kind of debrief or even sit-rep would be enough.
But someone, somewhere, were falling down on the job. But he can wait.
Turning a corner, he finds her - Nadine, the teacher from the apocalypse - with her hands over her face. He takes a small step forward.]
Hey.
no subject
At least it's Homelander. Nadine pulls her hands away from her face and takes a deep breath, doing her best to settle herself.]
Hey, Homelander. Just...taking a minute.
[She doesn't know how else to explain what she's doing, and doesn't feel like admitting to holding back some kind of breakdown. It's fine. She's fine. And she has a lifetime of experience with pulling herself together when she's not alright.]
I'm fine, just probably haven't eaten enough today. You know...or wait, you probably don't know how it goes. Superheroes probably don't get woozy if they skip a meal.
no subject
Not really? I mean, Maeve gets cranky once a month, if you know what I mean, and snacks seem to help. Too bad this place hasn't invented chocolate yet.
no subject
[Homelander strikes her as someone who's often getting up to interesting and exciting things. And he's clearly more of an optimist than she is, he always seems like he's in such a good mood. She could use a little bit of that brightness right now.]
What's been going on with you?
no subject
[He laughs like it's all a silly joke, as if he hadn't been up at the crack of dawn one morning, watching the shepherds herd a few sheep in to a shed, hadn't listened to the muffled screams that came soon after.] Living my best life here in Thorne.
Is it still because your husband is in prison? Are you worried they might hang him too?
no subject
[Unlike some people around here.]
I just feel...helpless. And I don't like feeling that way. I know so little about this world, how it works, what anything's like outside the castle and the town right around it. Who's even really in charge?
[Too many questions, not nearly enough answers.]
You're...really friendly with Thorne, does anyone...say anything to you? About any of it?
no subject
He's the big man with a plan and he'll tell us how to help.
[Soon, hopefully. Before Homelander will have to search out the dungeons again just to have a little fun. But he feels it, too. The restless boredom that comes from the drudgery of this whole ass place.]
There will be a plan real soon, buddy. Don't you worry your pretty little head about that, and when it comes, I'll take care of it.
no subject
[There's a royal family, after all, and this doesn't seem like the kind of place that has ceremonial titles or positions. Royalty probably means something around here.]
And what about the rest of the world? How much power do the authorities here have in general? Hey...didn't you get to meet with some politicians or something when they showed us off at that big party a while back? How did that go?
[Nadine doesn't remember all the details, she wasn't given a chance to talk to anyone important, but she's pretty sure Homelander did.]
1
I'm so sorry, I should have been paying more attention. Are you alright?
no subject
[Startled, but fine. Nadine shakes her head, bringing herself to the present and out of her own thoughts. This walking around in a near-fugue isn't doing her any favors - or anyone else. At least Belle hadn't dropped anything.]
I should probably be apologizing, I was...lost in my own head there. Can I...help you with that?
no subject
[ it's funny how handing off a few of the books changes her current situation from potential mess to a manageable supply. she doesn't want to take up too much of Nadine's time so she promptly finds an open spot to sit down with her books (and her food).
still, she can't help but mention:]
You seem to have a lot on your mind.
