EVENT #16: WINTERTIDE - IC EVENT LOG
Event #16 - Wintertide
Previous years have seen political complications arrive during the winter holidays. Luckily, this year appears to be a simpler affair...as much as that's possible for one of the Summoned. Although there are no diplomatic events, the status of the Summoned has grown over the past three years - and that means locals pay particular attention to you during important celebrations, especially if you've earned yourself some Influence.
Festivities start to pick up on DECEMBER 14 and continue until they reach their peak on DECEMBER 21, which coincides with a phenomenon known as The Dimming. During this period, the Singularity goes dormant and magic wanes. Celebrations continue in the following days until the Singularity gains its full strength.
For the island investigation taking place on December 29, click HERE.
NOTE: The island investigation log includes a DECISION for all characters who participated in Event #12 regardless of if they've returned to the island. Please read this section even if your character isn't participating in the excursion.

Local Festivities
Customs vary between nations, but no matter where you reside, you'll be encouraged to play a role. You're not limited to what the locals are doing, either! If there are any traditions from your home world you miss or want to share with your friends, you're welcome to do so. Teach each other songs from home, make your best approximation of a classic holiday dessert, or if the spirit of generosity compels you, you can even donate gifts and food to the less fortunate.
Player-organized open events are described HERE. Take a look if you'd like to attend or contribute to any of the available plots.
Thorne: The Dimming
Throughout the Kingdom of Thorne, the Dimming begins. Held in harmony with the annual cycle of the seasons and the slide of the Singularity into temporary dormancy, the Dimming is a celebration of two halves. The mood is generally somber and reflective in the days leading to the winter solstice itself, with the promise of a fantastic explosion of life, light and renewal waiting on the other side.
General Activities
◎ Around the city of CASTLE THORNE, horse-drawn sleigh rides take you through a picturesque route of freshly fallen snow and breathtaking mountain views while you enjoy some mulled wine. Rides are free for the Summoned. Many will try to entice you into their carriage. It's good for business to have given one of you a ride! As you go about town, you might attract notice. If you're lower on the Influence scale, you have a chance of going unbothered. If you're at 4 or higher, you're unlikely to escape attention. People will buy you a drink, ask you about life in the castle, or want to see you demonstrate your magic while theirs has waned.
◎ In BORREL, the Winding of the Thread involves a single cord wound throughout the city. Hopeful residents write wishes on colorful ribbons, then hang them on the cord. While large wishes are often only symbolically taken, smaller wishes, such as a new scarf or a friend to have tea with, can be granted by generous souls. And who might that generous soul be? Why, you! If you're so inclined, you can take a ribbon as a promise to fulfill that wish. You can put up a wish of your own, too, of course. Maybe a fellow Summoned will answer it?
◎ In NOTT, one of the frozen ponds has been smoothed over for locals to go skating while other ponds are open for ice fishing. When you're ready to take a break, you can enjoy hot drinks, crisp ales, and Nott's famous fish pies. Merchants are busy during this time, so if you need a little money, most will pay you to run an errand, help stock their shops, or mind the kids for a couple of hours. Residents in Nott are especially happy to meet you after all you've done.

Awakening of Magicks
Castle Thorne | Dec. 21
Light of Many Moons
Borrel | Dec. 18-20
Feast of the New Dawn
Nott | Dec. 27
Castle Thorne | Dec. 21
The burden whereby a Thornean mage sacrificed their life to offer a magical casket to the Singularity is no longer necessary, thanks to the Summoned. The Awakening of Magicks is a new and more uplifting ceremony held in one of the city's enchanted gardens. At the center stands a beautifully decorated topiary tree shaped to resemble the Singularity. Though lined with ribbons and holly, it's completely unlit.
Throughout the evening, you can enjoy delicious food, soft music, and a gift basket of Thorne's finest wines, desserts, and soothing potions. It's an ideal time to exchange presents or take a stroll around the winter-themed garden. Important aristocratic families will be there, and they all seem very curious about your presence.
At the end of the night, the Summoned are gathered by the King and Queen. Here, High Mage Ambrose Rhett will guide you in a spell to cast firelight from your palm, releasing a flickering ball of light towards the tree and illuminating the "Singularity" itself. The ceremony symbolizes your unique role in Abraxas and your ability to have your magic at a time when all other Thorneans are in darkness. The tree will remain lit until the real Singularity gains its full strength.
Light of Many Moons
Borrel | Dec. 18-20
Less a formal event and more an enticing phenomenon, locals gather annually on Borrel's seas to watch the moon jellies light up the ocean beneath their boats. Climb aboard to see for yourself. Boats won't travel out unless at least two people are aboard. Grab yourself a friend or wait to see who joins you as a surprise. The glow lasts only for ten or twenty minutes before it fades.
Stories say that if you glimpse a sea jelly that glows an odd red hue, you have a weight you must cast off by the season's end. Catching sight of this red moon jelly during your ride will cause your thoughts to wander toward something important you've always wanted to do or say. You might gain the courage to act right then and there, or you might do so later with a trusted companion. Afterwards, you feel a great relief.
By the time you're back ashore, you're probably pretty cold. Luckily, Borrel's inns are happy to serve the Summoned on the house during this special occasion. Enjoy a hearty meal and a drink free of charge.
Feast of the New Dawn
Nott | Dec. 27
Usually held in Castle Thorne, Nott has requested to host the feast this year to show their appreciation for the Summoned. A more humble affair than the castle's royal banquets, the town's best bakers, cooks, and brewers have come together to provide a feast of stews, grilled fish, and an array of pies and tarts.
Lyle Vela, Lord of Representatives in Nott, will attend. He won't have time for long conversations, but he'll be happy to learn your name and shake your hand. If you'd like to ask him a quick question or give him a message, you're welcome to do so. Just take care what you say. Although Nott's dissatisfaction with the monarchy isn't a secret, the town is hosting you on behalf of Castle Thorne, so be sure to keep things diplomatic.
Ask a question or pass a message to Lyle Vela here.

Free Cities: Festival of Enlightenment
Enlightenment and freedom from dependency on magic have come once more to the Free Cities. The phrase "Lights for Enlightenment!" is on every citizen's lips. Extravagant parties bring a buzz everywhere. Many creators flock to show off their work, whether that's a new invention or the season's trendiest fashions. Outfits emphasize the concept of illumination, using reflective fabrics and gems. Vendors offer little mechanical toys, decorations, and jewelry. Some glow due to naturally occurring substances, some have chemical reactions activated with the press of a button.
General Activities
◎ Each year in CADENS, special light-up carriages take eager citizens on set routes around the city to view the street decorations. Most importantly, each wagon is sponsored and designed by a particular association to draw attention to a cause or their services. The Academies, Fort Wilbridge, and the Free City Theater Company are common sponsors. This year, the Summoned will have a carriage to decorate using lights, metal bits, and glowing paints. Add your unique touch to the design if you like. The carriage is running regardless, so you should probably try to put something on it.
◎ In AQUILA, you'll have your pick of galas to attend from garden parties to fashion shows. Some of the most wealthy and influential people are out and about, and enterprising individuals are eager to make friends in high places. Naturally, this includes the Summoned, who've become a unique feature in the Free Cities. If you're lower on the Influence scale, you have a chance of going unbothered. If you're at 4 or higher, you're unlikely to escape attention. Designers will try to get you to wear something of theirs to show it off while locals will invite you to their exclusive cocktail parties or try to introduce themselves. You might even find some gossip or story about you in the papers the next day.
◎ In LIBERTAS, the party comes to you. Festivities spill out onto the streets at all hours of the day, sweeping up everyone who steps into the city. Art is displayed on every corner while outdoor stages are set up for concerts, poetry readings, and plays. Why not take to the stage yourself? Charity work is also common. Entertainers visit orphanages, and volunteers deliver food to those in need. All of them could use some help. Residents in Libertas are especially happy to see you after all you've done.

Liberty Charity Auction
Libertas | Dec. 22
Cadens | Dec. 17-19
In front of Portham Hall, great inventors gather to show off their creations, each vying to win the coveted prize of government funding. All inventions are on display to the public and judged by a team of Ministry officials. The harshest of them is Aleksander G. Klingel, known for his vital contributions to Cadens' technological advancements. This year, he's returned to solicit the Summoned in an experiment you might recognize if you've been around. It'll take only a minute! All you have to do is hold a metal rod. The tingling can grow painful if you hang on too long, but Aleksander won't stop you if you're determined.
Inventor Clarice Amaury has also created what she calls a Soul Mirror (trademarks pending). Designed as a therapeutic tool, the beautiful scenic cube behaves almost like a genuine biome. Clarice claims that watching the soothing forest within will help you reflect on your inner self. You're certainly relaxed and contemplative after you've interacted with the cube and your thoughts begin to turn toward something important you've wanted to do or say - which might be to the stranger next to you or a friend. Follow your heart, and you could find it feeling much lighter.
Gala of Illumination
Aquila | Dec. 20
The most influential party in the whole of the Free Cities, the Gala is held in the Gallery of Fine Arts, an architectural marvel that's converted into an enchanting ballroom. Well-known figures will be here, from famous performers to wealthy patrons to powerful politicians. Getting an invitation to this coveted event isn't easy, but the Summoned have a standing invitation. To entice important guests - including you - organizers offer free styling assistance, one-of-a-kind designer pieces to borrow for the night (you'll need to return it after!), and a gift bag containing wine, handcrafted accessories, and exotic desserts. More fancy canapés and drinks await inside, alongside dancing and famous artworks.
Fallon Marsh, Aquila's representative, will attend. With a sharp eye for commerce, he's led the city's economy to blossom during his tenure. He won't have time for long conversations, but he'll be happy to learn your name and shake your hand. If you'd like to ask him a quick question or give him a message, you're welcome to do so. Rumor has it he has something of a rivalry with Aleksander Klingel and Quilleth Kaur, but it's best not to bring that up.
Ask a question or pass a message to Fallon Marsh here.

Liberty Charity Auction
Libertas | Dec. 22
Libertas has often been the most community-driven of the cities. This year's Liberty Charity Auction is focused on the children left parentless after the attacks, and the Summoned are encouraged to attend. It'll be held in a performance theater next to the Willow Memorial Park. Quilleth Kaur will give a heartfelt speech in memory of the lives lost before yielding the stage to event organizers. Art pieces, exclusive collectibles like the first draft of a famous manuscript, and painting or acting lessons from the masters of their craft are all up for bid. Some of the more expensive pieces might be out of your price range, but you can bid on smaller items like imperfect sculptures or used tools.
You can sign up to auction off something, as well. Don't worry if you're not highly skilled or don't feel you have much to give. Learning about your unique home world or owning something you've made is an appeal in and of itself. As long as your efforts are sincere, you'll earn a bid to help the children. All proceeds will go to orphanages in the Free Cities.
If you'd rather help behind the scenes, you can organize the items up for bidding, write and deliver invitations to guests before the event, or help serve food and drink to attendees.
Solvunn: Winter Solstice
As the Winter Solstice approaches, spirits in Solvunn are high. Hung across every doorway and window are boughs of holly and large garlands of evergreen decorated with bells, twine, and poinsettia. Small altars adorned with candles glow at dusk. At night, bonfires roar in the middle of town where the adults can mingle. Songs and stories of the Gods are shared.
General Activities
◎ Throughout the PRIMARY SETTLEMENT, you'll be met with open doors wherever you go. Kindly neighbors will invite you out of the cold for a meal or gift you a bounty: mead, bread, scented candles, or even money. It's vital you accept the offerings, though there's no harm in paying it forward. Locals will be happy to take your gifts or accept an invitation from you in return. As you go about the settlement, you might attract notice. If you're lower on the Influence scale, you have a chance of going unbothered. If you're at 4 or higher, you're unlikely to escape attention. People will insist you join them to visit a shrine, ask for a blessing, or request your wisdom with a problem.
◎ In the SECONDARY SETTLEMENT, one key tradition returns: the Goat of All Tidings. A handsome-looking black goat wearing a festive coat made of patchwork tapestries is brought out and set loose to a boisterous chorus of cheers. It'll run freely, waiting to be caught. If you can lay a kiss upon the Goat of All Tidings, good fortune will follow you into the new year. Fail to apprehend and kiss the goat or befall its temper, and misfortune shall be your guide. Be careful! Snow and sleet make for slippery meadows this time of year.
◎ In the TERTIARY SETTLEMENT, preparations for Xeimer's Plunge are taking place. Pickled herring and fresh-caught fish are being collected and placed into bowls carved from antler and bone for the Elders to examine. Only the finest fish will do. Xeimer's shrine features a small pool in which approved offerings of fish are placed. Of course, his shrine must be protected and tidied daily to make sure it's ready for the upcoming Plunge. The herring attracts pests and small predators, which you can help defend the shrine from.

Secondary Settlement | Dec. 18-22
Xeimer's Plunge
Tertiary Settlement | Dec. 21
Primary Settlement | Dec. 20
Known only as The Light, this Guardian of Darkness is a key figure during the darkest days of the year. Along with Xeimer, the Light must be appeased or else the community risks plunging the world into an everlasting winter. In previous years, this involved Elders going from house to house to light the candles placed outside every door in small covered altars.
This year, due to the significant role of the Summoned in Solvunn, you've been asked to accept the task. Since Solvunn believes the Singularity's dormancy is part of a natural cycle, they will not request you use your magic, though you may if the Gods compel you to do so. The candles can be lit with a simple wooden splint. However you decide to do it, though, the important part is that you agree to give your blessing to each home by lighting the candle, then taking the offering placed beside the outdoor altar. The offering is usually a bone charm carved to represent the flaming crown of The Light.
You can turn down the role if you want, but declining to take part will be met with uncertainty, and even a hint of fear. The natives will want to know what they've done to offend you so greatly.
Snowdrop Exchange
Secondary Settlement | Dec. 18-22
Pledging yourself to the Gods is important to Solvunnites, but equally vital is your relationship with your neighbor. The Snowdrop Exchange is about reaffirming those relationships. White drooping snowdrop flowers bloom across the fields of the Secondary Settlement throughout the winter. You'll be encouraged to harvest the flowers and make a small bundle tied with a blue ribbon, then gift the bouquet to another person. This can be someone you want to get to know better or someone who already has a place in your life.
Doing so will cause you to experience a strange warmth in the cold. You find your mind wandering to something important you've always wanted to do or say. You might gain the strength to act right then and there to the person you've pledged to, or you might do so later with somebody else. Once you do, you feel much lighter, as though Xemeir himself has released you from the weight of your worries.
Xeimer's Plunge
Tertiary Settlement | Dec. 21
To make good on their promises, the Council has chosen to hold this year's Plunge in the Tertiary Settlement. Xeimer's Plunge is based on the Herald of the Frost's love of the winter waves. Participants strip down and dive or run straight into the freezing Hydra Gulf to join him on his swim. Don't fret! You'll get thick blankets, hot cider, and a roaring bonfire to gather around afterwards. While there's a desire to appease the Old God, the event is also about accepting a thrilling challenge, something the locals love to do.
Rowan March, a member of the Council, will attend. Known for keeping the peace between farms, Rowan is a familiar face to all of Solvunn. He won't have time for long conversations, but he'll be happy to learn your name and shake your hand. If you'd like to ask him a quick question or give him a message, you're welcome to do so. Rumor has it there was conflict between him and former Council member Josselyn Creed - now disgraced and executed - but you'd be wise not to discuss Josselyn during this happy occasion.
Ask a question or pass a message to Rowan March here.
There are no Influence requirements.
Oleuni Square
Summoned who were here for the previous winter will remember Nocwich's role in the celebrations, mediating a discussion in Luna for nation officials. This year, Nocwich has taken a backseat, but since the holidays often bring a good amount of money to shops and markets, Nocwich will open for visitors from December 14-20 and from December 23-28. To conserve magic, portals will close on the 21st and 22nd.
Only Oleuni Square will be open. Luna and Ikorr are both closed. Lady Elin is also not available during this period.
The Marketplace
Making up the majority of the Square, the Marketplace consists of a series of outdoor stalls and a few actual shops. Whatever you can think of can be found here, from jewelry to clothing to food and wine. There are fancier eateries where one can order a meal and cheap street vendors. Much of what's available is of fairly high quality. If you're looking to buy some gifts or simply spend time with friends from other nations, here's a good place to do so.
All of the usual sights and sounds can be found, with a few additions for the season.
All of the usual sights and sounds can be found, with a few additions for the season.
◎ THE MAIN STAGE. Musical performances and plays will celebrate the Winter Solstice. Merchants will bring around roasted chestnuts and cider for attendees to enjoy. Dancing is encouraged!
◎ SHOPS & STALLS. Shops will cater to those searching for presents or that touch of something special to their outfit for an upcoming party. Take a look at winter-themed jewelry, fine fabrics, and bouquets of flowers found only in Nocwich. Or what about a glowing tattoo for a permanent mark?
◎ EATERIES. To attract customers, eateries and inns will offer special items for the holidays. Try uniquely spiced mead and cocktails, taste exquisitely crafted desserts, or order the chef's platter for dinner. You can also book a romantic holiday room for you and an important someone.
The Arcanis
The height of luxury and the pride of Luna, The Arcanis is a "cruise liner" that first made its introduction last year. The decks are spacious and could be mistaken for a grand opera house. The ship seems suspiciously bigger on the inside, but locals will tell you that it looks as expected - nothing unusual to see.
Though The Arcanis is normally docked in Luna, the werewolves have moved it to the shores of Oleuni Square for this occasion. It offers an eatery, gambling lounges, and spas, as well as the following unique features that take place only in the winter.
◎ SKYLINE SEA
◎ CHARLIE THE TURTLE
Though The Arcanis is normally docked in Luna, the werewolves have moved it to the shores of Oleuni Square for this occasion. It offers an eatery, gambling lounges, and spas, as well as the following unique features that take place only in the winter.
◎ SKYLINE SEA
Once a year, during the Dimming on the night of December 20, creatures of the deep sea take to the skies. Legend has it these creatures never used to reside in the water, but the Singularity's growing strength forced them to migrate deep under the ocean due to the interference with song frequencies.
Most of the marine life are whales and sea jellies, but following behind them is the fearsome golden serpent and its friendlier but no less gigantic companion the rainbow carp. These creatures will not attack. They will simply migrate across the sky and vanish into the stars.
You can watch this incredible phenomenon on the deck of The Arcanis or on the shores. You'll get a thick fur blanket to protect you from the cold. Those watching are encouraged to make a wish and then share that wish with one other person. The Lunae believe sharing a wish with another will help it come true.
◎ CHARLIE THE TURTLE
Charlie, affectionately referred to as Admiral Chuck by the captain, is an ancient turtle that's resided on the ship since its first voyage. He's often seen lumbering through the upper and lower decks at an average turtle pace. Staff will claim that they've seen him speed by out of the corner of their eye, but none have proof.
Legend has it that Chuck may have witnessed the Sinking of Tornis or perhaps even once was a resident creature of the now-vanished city of Tornis. No proof of this exists, either, but turtles are extraordinarily long-lived so he may have been there.
While he isn't very talkative during the rest of the year, the winter cheer has made him open up again, especially if you bring him food. Those gifted in animal speech or other unique communication abilities can have a conversation with Chuck.
To converse with Admiral Chuck, reply HERE with what you'll say and an answer of some sort may come. Keep in mind that he is, in the end, just a regular turtle, so his insight may be limited.
Julia Wicker | The Tower | Solvunn
Solvunn OTA
Julia is proud that she's now finished her private shrine to Endrborrin behind the orchardist's house that she was permitted to make. It is small but the butterfly is beautifully crafted into the stone and it is completely lit up with spring and summer flowers alive like they're in a different season. She happily puts a candle on it herself as part of the season.
After that, she can be seen willingly lighting candles around the settlement with her fire spell, since the Dimming doesn't affect the Summoned. She seems to have no problem doing this and collecting the bone charms left behind as that seems to be the custom.
Second Settlement
Julia has been visiting the second settlement regularly since she arrived to go to Endrborrin's official shrine, and she visits again while the celebrations are happening. She checks on the shrine to reinvigorate the beautiful alive flowers she's planted along it as her silent request for the goddess' attention. She can be found there on her knees, praying or simply organizing the flowers again.
After that, she joins in on the snowdrop flowers bouquet making, seemingly very comfortable handling them and tying them up with a nice ribbon. Julia helps the locals finish them so they can give them out, but she also might offer someone she knows a bouquet with a smile.
Tertiary Settlement
This is definitely Julia's favorite part, which is a surprise to her as she'd never been to the settlement. But she is very excited to take part in Xeimer's Plunge! She wears shorts and a shirt, not wanting to strip down more than that, but when they tell people to go, she runs straight into the water, laughing and giving a little scream when she dives into it. She doesn't often feel cold these days, but this gives her a nip and it's delightful! She goes back into the water more than once, enjoying the thrill. She may splash someone or encourage them to go into the water with her.
Afterward she enjoys hot cider by the bonfire, although she barely seems to need the blanket, holding it like she's doing it more for appearances than anything else. Julia's in a great mood and may chatter at people around the fire or seem very open to starting conversations or talking about the holiday going on.
Tertiary Settlement
Arthur is greatly regretting that decision, despite now being wrapped snuggly in a thick blanket and sat close by the fire. His hair is still wet and it's not a good look for him. Drowned rat would be a kind description of him currently, dripping and shivering and folded in on himself to try and encourage his scrawny body to generate some heat. He was feeling alright, until the buzz from the alcohol the bearded bloke with the funny accent gave him wore off.
"Maybe I need more alcohol," he mutter forlornly. He glances about, focusing on the woman who looks entirely too comfortable and chipper for someone who was just in frigid water.
"Aren't you freezing?"
no subject
"Nope, but I have very thick skin."
Her skin looks as normal as his, but it's deceptive that way. There are a lot of people who aren't as human as they seem, and while that hasn't always been the case for her, it is now.
"Do you know any heating spells? They might give you a little extra oomf."
no subject
"Not much of a magic guy, me. Sometimes I think I shouldn't even be trusted with a box of matches!" A little high laugh. "No, I'm joking. I just tend to have bad luck with trying new things."
People get maimed, there's lots of screaming, sometimes there's an angry mob....
"I think I did something to a radish, once."
Not at all helpful in this situation, but Arthur is a man who wants to help. He wants to be A Part of The Community. This young lady obviously is comfortable with magic, like the locals. And the radish is the one thing he has to offer in the way of magic he might have done.
He's still not entirely sure it was him, and he has yet to experiment further. The last thing he needs is to end up with an out of control army of dancing tubers.
no subject
"Here. Stay still." She makes a gesture with her hand, creating a flame within it, and then leans to the side so she doesn't scare him. Julia blows the flame and as it touches his blanket, instead of burning anything, it simply warms the fabric up. It'll be a heated blanket from now on, hopefully that will help him be a little less freezing.
She didn't need to speak a spell and rarely does need to, it's all about the will and hand gestures. "I can teach you my kind of magic some time if you'd like. Anyone can use it here." Julia knows not everyone's magic translates well to teaching, but hers is literally taught on a master's degree level as part of a full education. She's been offering classes to people in Solvunn as it's easier than High Magic.
no subject
"I just have rather spectacular bad luck," he finally says.
And he tries very hard not to flinch at the sudden fire. This is all fine. It's all perfectly safe. No one is going to burn him. Or catch fire. Or burn down the...whatever around them is burnable. He's just a bit nervous around fire. That bad luck of his.
But the blanket is nice and toasty, and while Arthur is chilled to the very marrow of his bones, it's an improvement.
"Oh. Thank you. It's not that I've anything against magic, of course." He wants to be clear on that. He's not politely trying to change the topic or dismiss magic, not at all. "I grew up on all kinds of fanciful stories, the Arthurian legends and all the Brothers Grimm tales. The Wizard of Oz was my favorite film." And also the only film he'd ever seen. But still.
"I just can't seem to shake the notion I'd end up turning myself into a frog or...disappearing my trousers."
Two things that he considers the same level of disaster.
no subject
The magic from her world is a series of learned spells and instincts; she can teach one but not necessarily the other. It's why she's always been able to use it in a way trained magicians could not. They think too controlled, too within the books only. Not fluid, like hedges.
Her hair is as dried off as she's going to get it and it's a little wraggled at the moment, so she tries to run her fingers through and get the tangles out. Her own blanket stays on her shoulders, and she is glad she has it. There's still comfort she can get out of it. He seems to improve thanks to the heated blanket so her work is filled, and she smiles as he keeps talking.
"I grew up on those too. And I'm a good witch, not a bad witch, promise." That is a playful reference to the Wizard of Oz since he mentioned it, trying to set him at ease. "Transfiguration spells, like turning into a frog, is incredibly difficult and not just something someone can do. The disappearing trousers ... a little more possible, but unlikely."

Nocwich & Luna/Arcanis OTA
What she's very excited about is the Arcanis. The moment she sees the giant ship, her eyes are wide and her smile delighted, and she gleefully runs onto it to see what it's like. Find her wandering the decks and seeing everything that she possibly can on it, curious about this new place.
Julia doesn't use her money to bet but she does watch some gambling to see what the games are here, and she pauses at the spa, clearly uncertain whether she can use it or not. Money always comes to her mind in these situations, but she is looking through what they offer, intrigued.
Julia can be seen speaking privately to Admiral Chuck and feeding him some flowers, smiling as he touches her hand with a flipper and then shuffles off. She also stares at the Skyline Sea with open wonder and perhaps even a little tear in her eye.
arcanis
"Hey, do me a favor and settle this internal struggle for me, would ya?" Harley has had her fill of gambling thanks to Nochwich and the things available aboard this SS Masterpiece, but now she's in a place of appreciation. The stars are scattered across the sky and the lavish liner is the very image of ethereal opulence. "Who do you think is hotter? The queen of hearts, or the queen of spades?"
no subject
"Queen of spades. She's got a sort of Mona Lisa-esque vibe to her. Is she half-smiling? Is she mysterious? The hearts, you'd expect to be hot." This definitely reminds her of the funny conversations she'd have in the dorms. She's a good person to ask about cards, knowing every magic card trick out there, and her best friend always carrying around a set. She's looked at every card closely over the years.
"It's giving me very Aphrodite versus Athena energy." And that would just start the Trojan War if they're not careful. Julia jumps right to her world references because the spades and hearts reminds her of Earth. "Love your hair."

"I knew I liked you! I saw you and I thought, there's a girl that knows a thing or two about the important hypotheticals in life." Harley flashes her a toothy grin, her brows lifted high into her hairline. "Nothing wrong with Aphrodite or Athena, as far as I'm concerned they're both badass bitches worthy of their respective thrones. Sure, Athena made some specific choices I might not have made but - who can say, it's all apples and oranges at the end of the day."
Mythology wasn't her strong suit but Harley knew enough, especially given the archetypes and their frequent use in parallels and diagnostics. Medusa, for example, and Poseidon. Both are big psych gateway conversation gods! "You do? Thanks! It's my signature."
no subject
"If women wrote the myths they probably wouldn't be polar opposites anyway. Knowledge and love together." The two kind of represented the Madonna-whore complex too, proving that humans had been arguing over the same things with women since the BC era. Julia loves mythology, she knows an outrageous amount, from all different cultures. It used to be her pleasure reading as a nerdy, nerdy kid.
"Yeah! I think there may be magical ways to keep the dye going if you want."
no subject
"One more thing men complicated with their over-inflated sense of superiority," and really what haven't men tried to conquer in the name of absolute power? That's a story older than all the stories that make up the world that they both lived in.
"You can do that?" The notion that there's some magical equivalent of hairstyling is uncharted territory for Harley. Not even in her wildest dream, and they get pretty wild, did she think there'd be some incantation or spell that could keep everything where she wanted it. Those kinds of secrets would topple the beauty and cosmetic industries and heal half the planet from the resource mining it took the maintain them.

julia's witchy woman warriors meets once a month
The Doctor
Julia is excited every time she gets to leave Solvunn; while she's warmed up to it, she still has urges for Adventure, and it isn't really fixing that urge. This holiday season gave her everything she could ask for, with fun and strange things to do, and then a fancy werewolf ship. And of course the first person she had to adventure with is the Doctor, so she's been only full of joy and enthusiasm since they met up. She's left her melancholy behind, determined to leave the sadness in the orchard, she can always come back for it tomorrow.
She's dressed well for the weather in sedate shades of gray and blue, with an elegant brighter blue scarf around her neck that Erik got for her. Technically she doesn't need layers, but she'll always do it. Even now it's cold and she brought them both a blanket, having been told they might need one, but she only feels it a little bit. She wants the sensation of enjoying cozy blankets and the chill on her nose.
They've reached the point where she feels comfortable in curling a hand into his elbow as they walk, carrying the blankets in the other hand. It's easier to walk this way on the ship and not get in the way of other people, as she looks up at the sky. It's officially slipping into the night which is when she was told to be there. She glances up at the sky, hoping they can get to a spot on the side of the ship to see it more clearly. She's short so she can't stand behind someone.
"Apparently this is a once in a lifetime kind of experience, except it happens annually, but you know what I mean." An incredible thing to behold, whether it's yearly or not!

"Admiral Chuck! Yes! Dear fellow, we had a brief conversation. To think of all that he must have seen in his years..." The Doctor smiles wistfully as they make their way to a good spot on the ship, feeling all at once a sense of wonder and hope. The seasons here may not be entirely the same, but it does remind him of Christmas, of course, and how fond of it he's always been, how glad he is to be able to share tonight with Julia.
"Now this," he nods towards the skies, already looking up with rapt attention, though still carefully minding his step somehow, "oh, it will be grand. You know, even if it does happen annually, it won't ever be quite the same as it is tonight. If we're standing in this exact spot again a year from now watching the same beautiful creatures journey across the skies, it will still be all new because of us, because we're growing and changing everyday and I love that," he grins, glancing over at her briefly before guiding her to where there seems to be a blessedly empty spot on the side. "Ah, here, perfect, what do you think?"
no subject
"I wonder when I'll stop being amazed at you always knowing the exact right optimistic thing to say." That a year from now it will still be new because of who they'll be then. It's sweet, he's forever so sweet. To look through his rose-colored eyes for just one day would be good for anyone. Julia is so delighted when they end up getting lucky enough for a spot she wouldn't have to sand on tiptoes for.
"The last thing I wanted to do was have to jump behind someone to see it." The life of a petite person. There is a crowd here as people prepare for the view of these sea beasts, and it's already so beautiful out there. She makes a quiet oh under her breath, as she almost forgot, setting the blankets down carefully before diving her hand into her pocket.
"We got a holiday surprise where they gave us money for gifts!" It wasn't enough to make them rich, but it did mean Julia got to make people more than pretty flower bouquets. She pulls out a silver tree locket that appears to be subtly glowing a soft white from within, pulsing with it every thirty seconds. She removes her hand from his elbow to offer it to him.
"A piece of my essence is in there. If you open it and breathe it in, you'll be able to use my power temporarily." That is something deities can do in her world, bestow their power onto others. Usually through other means, but Julia tested this one out a few times before feeling secure it was working.

"Sometimes what I say out loud is just as good as what I think in my head. Always good when that happens, far better than the opposite," he teases a little, because he knows he definitely has also said the wrong thing far too much in his life, at least by his measure.
"We would have had to get creative, though lucky it's worked out." Dreadful if she missed a single moment of this, but he would have made sure. Somehow. He's not expecting the gift at all, for some reason is still surprised when any gift is given to him. To be thought of for this — he never anticipates it, even now. But he turns and looks at her, reaches for the locket.
"Julia, this is —" He runs a thumb over the face of it, amazed by the glow and what it is, what it means. "Thank you. It's beautiful. The flowers — those perfect flowers around the TARDIS that will always make me think of you — and now this. You've spoiled me and this will absolutely go to my head, fair warning," another gentle tease, but now he's putting the locket on to wear it. "Your power, part of you — well, officially never taking it off now. Completes the aesthetic I was going for without knowing I was going for it at all."
He fumbles around in his pockets now, holding out two gifts for her: a bracelet and a necklace.
"Guess we're going with the tree theme, eh? I can't take credit, this was all Hilda's doing. I was going to give you some fancy buttons and she pointed out perhaps the buttons should be...more, or...not. But we found a pretty old button to make a necklace with!"
no subject
Julia excitedly watches his reaction because she loves giving people things and making their day a little better. There's maybe a touch of nerves in there too, because it's their first gift, and it's something very personal. "I was hoping you'd see the flowers." With the Horizon being what it is, it didn't require her actual power to leave them there, but it was mental power. The flowers will never fade on his TARDIS, not as long as he wants them there.
She beams at him given the positive reaction. "If you need to use it, you should. I can always give you more. It's one of the cool things my kind can do." She bestowed her power onto Quentin and he used it well, not that she knows it right now. Julia has life magic to spare and the thought of the Doctor having it feels good. He'll carry a part of her.
It's funny because she was ready to give him a gift, but hadn't considered expecting any of her own. She slides the bracelet on right away, it fits well with her bird bones although that would explain how Hilda knew what size to make there. "I would love anything you got me, I promise. But these are lovely." Julia likes jewelry, she hasn't been without them until she got here.
"I am Our Lady of the Tree, so it is kind of a calling card for me." Trees are personal. She hesitates before lifting her hair and offering him the necklace. "Can you put it on? My wild mane makes it hard solo."
no subject
"Thank you, Julia," he speaks warmly, repeating himself, he knows, but he can't say it enough. It's gratitude for more than just the gifts. For tonight, for all that she's given him already here.
"Our Lady of the Tree," the Doctor smiles now, shifting to move so he can help with her request. "Beautiful. Love that." He's not sure why for a moment he stares at the back of her head like it's some mystery to work out; the simplest thing, simply pushing her hair to the side to put her necklace on, yet something new and something that feels important, or at least, it does to him.
"A new thing! Imagine that. Haven't ever done this before, if you can believe it, though I suppose there's not much to it," he gives running commentary for some reason, moving now to push her hair to the side and pull both ends of the necklace around her neck, clasping it together. "Wild hair, yes, but lovely. Pleasantly compliant, too, or at least it is for me." He may be a bit rusty at the compliments, but once the necklace is clasped, he shifts again so he's sitting beside her. "It feels okay?"

We can wrap on this one, maybe a new one in his Horizon? message with thoughts if you want!
Sam Winchester
As she drags herself out, she's laughing, dark hair tangled, her clothes stuck to her closely, and she doesn't seem to be in a rush for a fur. This is the closest she's felt to being really cold since she got here, and she wants a few moments of that before she goes back to always being on a level temperature. She grins over at the person who ran in around the same time she did, dragging herself back to shore as the water still rushes away beneath their feet. She knows his name is Sam and he's a new Summoned, so she'll have to tick a box next to him in her head that also says 'crazy enough to do this.'
"Okay but do you think we get like a prize if we go again?"
no subject
"You never know," he points out, a dopey grin tipping up on one side of his lips. "Should we give it a try?" Admittedly, Sam's finding sport in urging others on, strangely invigorrated by this more... communal atmosphere. In the Free Cities, particularly in Cadens, Sam had found himself almost overtaken by the bustle of growth and industry. Combined with magic, the fast-adapting folks had a way of making life like being dragged along by rapids. Here it's much more... lazy river. Frozen lazy river, at that.

"Well we have to impress Xeimer, 'tis the season." It's said playfully but it is also very real around here, the gods paying attention to their actions. Julia has yet to meet one officially, but at least they seem to acknowledge their people instead of ignoring them like the ones she knew.
Julia grins at him and knocks some of the water at him in a splash before turning on her heel and running back into the frigid waves for a second go. She splutters up and stays in the deep end for a little while, floating on her back, looking for him. "They should make a water park."
no subject
"Does Xeimer approve of that kind of commerce?" He laughs when asking, having tried and failed to fend off the splash. Julia then goes into the water and Sam can't help but follow, not wanting to be seen as the soggy wet blanket on this rather jovial party. He finds her floating and treads nearby, body having a hard time wanting to fully adapt.
He bobs, smiling and shivering, pale and sodden. "Imagine how fast the slides would go with magic enchantments behind you." Sam sniffles, trying to stop his nose from wanting to run but having a hard time with the way the air is biting at him. "There could be a portal that starts you on one slide and ends you on another." It's a stupid idea, but today seems like a great day to entertain those kind of thoughts and so they come sputtering out, much like water. He's not even sure how he got talked into this.
no subject
"Oh my god, you have a great brain, that would be so much fun." Julia can see that he's cold though and probably going to make himself sick if he doesn't get smart about it, something she doesn't have to worry about, so she pushes herself out of the water, wringing her hair out.
"I have a good heating spell if you want a pick-me-up." She treads in the water barefoot, like someone else would on a beach in Hawaii, not hurrying for her clothes but heading back toward where they can get blankets. She curls her hands together in a circle and flicks her thumbs up, fire coming to life in her palm, and then she slides her hands apart, fluttering her fingers like butterfly wings, until the fire separates and the warmth spreads around her like a space heater.
